I can't think of a better way to celebrate Chinese New Year this weekend than sharing the fabulous Chanel Paris-Shanghai collection with you! My grandmother grew up in Shanghai during the height of its glory in the 1920's and 1930's, or as she calls it-- the chicest city on earth (other than Paris, she will admit). Boy does she have great stories of her life as a young Shanghainese socialite (but I'm saving that for my book)! I'm certain she'd approve of Chanel's beautiful homage to her glorious hometown (great excuse for me to pick up several bags so I can show them to her!)-- starting with the adorable plexi and enamel Chinese doll clutch above. It's so exquisite and beautifully made that I will most likely have a glass case made to display it, taking it out for only the most special of occasions. The sparkling sequined classic flap bags below are also very Chinese, we love anything shiny and anything red-- especially for Chinese New Year (I wear red underwear during the entire 2 weeks of celebrations-- sorry, is that too much info?).
The Paris-Shanghai collection is coming soon to a CHANEL boutique near you! This is a special sneak preview for Bag Snob readers, I will have more info for you soon! Happy "Hu" Year everyone!

Oh Em Gee! This is gorgeous, the China doll clutch is precious beyond words. Love it!
I love the doll! But the bags are tacky! (and i'm from Shanghai!!! and it is the greatest city, bar none!!!) Ping..p.s. i love Paris too:)
i'll pass on the sequin bags. seriously, Karl? the doll clutch is exquisite!
Gorgeous, love the doll and the green sequin bag. Do you know how much the doll is?
The doll is a great collector's piece, I would take that home in a heartbeat!
The sequined ones don't look that special to me though....
I would take that doll in a heartbeat! It's destined to be a prized collector's piece.
The sequined bags are surprisingly ugly though :(
Kung Hee Fat Choy!
Not a fan of the sequins, but the jacket and the top? YES.
Not a fan of the sequins, but the jacket and the top? YES.
Really like the classic ones, to be honest,I do not like 2009 chanel coco cocoon bags that the spokesman is Lily Allen.
Love the doll. Its so cute and it would be the centre of attention during chinese new year. Tina, you are not the only one on the under garment regime. Kung Hei Fatt Choy to you and the team in Bagsnob.
I'm sorry but I am completely nonplussed. When that russian doll by Chanel first came out, and was subsequently seen on Lily Allen's wrist, people stated that it was a complete waste; that even if they had the money they would not waste it on some mantlepiece conversation starter. Yet somehow this version is praised and admired. Bagsnob, I ask you this, are you actually going to buy this piece? I believe that your taste is usually exquisite, yet I cannot shake the feeling that this piece, like the one it before is just absurd. I do not mean to sound preachy but surely there are other things to spend money on? I wonder that if you had not posted such a glowing review, would the comments still be positive?
this is so interesting!
I'm guessing the enamel dolls are meant to be collector items, and thus collected. I saw the Russian one in person and it is EXQUISITE in terms of craftsmanship. If someone can collect them, I think it's a great idea. Or if a doll fits one's heritage, it would be great to by just that one too.
Oh, and as an afterthought - I don't understand Karl's fascination with Lily Allen. Doesn't he realize that she is an awful and terrible spokesperson. She's a drunken, slobby mess all the time!!! It sends the wrong message to youngsters - "oh look, Chanel loves Lilly Allen - being a drunken, slobby, assultive mess must be chic, and beautiful, and cool."
LOVE THE DOLL! LOVE THE CLOTHES!
CAN'T WAIT FOR THE RED POCKETS!
Bagsnobs, hey was just wondering what the difference was between the red classic above and the red jumbo classic frmo the fw 09 collection???
I LOVE the doll and the red quilted purse! If you have the cash, get a doll clutch for your grandma!
As for Karl and Lily, whatever. I'm too busy looking at the bags (and the price tags).
Rock the red underwear, Tina!
I don't understand how these could not be considered tacky when Judith Leiber's bags are often referred to as such???
My grandmother grew up in Shanghai during the height of its glory in the 1920's and 1930's,
ah, really?
So does my grandma, may be they know each other?
love this bag, I really want one.
I think that ALL of our grandmothers grew up in Shanghai during the height of its glory days in the 1920's and 1930's.... ;-)
(and we were all Cleopatra in a past life as well)
So sweet, love the Chinese doll clutch
Idon't think that when people grow up, they will become morebroad-minded and can accept everything. Conversely, I think it's aselecting process, knowing what's the most important and what's theleast. And then be a simple man
