Balenciaga Patchwork Arena

Really? Was this necessary? Do we need yet another incarnation of the formerly iconic but now over done, over exposed Arena bag??? A bag designer (who shall remain nameless) marveled at Balenciaga’s ability to cash in on a single bag silhouette for almost a decade and expressed a desire to create something that has the same shelf life. From a business standpoint that is the ideal of course, make one bag over and over and over again!? Why not!? But at some point you have to ask your self, am I a designer? Or a factory? Yes, I agree that the Arena was the ultimate cool bag in its day (having 2 of them myself) but seriously, if you are running out of ideas– it is time to move on. This patchwork version lacks imagination, style and any sense for that matter. Chanel did this with the classic flap bag once and it didn’t bode well for them, either. I’m not saying I hate the Arena bag, I’m just saying I hate this one. I know, such a strong word and I discourage my son from using it but right now it’s the only way I can express how I feel about this hideous bag. Look closely, the patches are of every color of Arena ever made so I guess I should give them points for recycling scrap leather. At Barneys $2,345.

Patchwork takes a pretty designer bag and turns it into something you would buy at the County Turnip Fair. Me no likey.

I, too, discourage my kids from using the word the HATE. they even refer to it as the H word. And, I, too, must say that I hate this bag. Ouch…..all those poor people who will buy it at half off, since so many will be around, and we’ll all be like, “Oh, there goes that bag we hate….”

See I think Patchwork with the Right Construstion and Outfit is very Bohemian and I like that look. Never on me, but on others as well!!!

Balenciaga needs to get over this bag and start over, because he is doing the Brand a Disjustice with this bag!!!

This bag is fun! Get over it. Break up your black with a little patchwork. Great colors on this one, Black, burgandy, green. It doesn’t get much better than that. Don’t be so cliche “Bohemian” mix it up and use your imagination. The Fashion world keeps producing copies from years gone by. Don’t wear it like years gone. Be creative and find a new way to work it.
