Brunch and Interview with Donna Karan

Okay peeps, get your questions together and leave them in comments. I’m interviewing and having brunch with Donna Karan herself on Tuesday 8/25. Am I excited? Uh, yeah! After college I decided I needed to wear Donna Karan to look grown up and smart. I bought almost the entire Fall collection in 1993. It cost more than a year’s salary for a new college grad but did I care? I looked and felt confident and fabulous! I still have most of that collection for sentimental reasons. There are many women in the fashion industry who have inspired me throughout my life– Bobbi Brown, Diane von Furstenberg and Donna Karan are the top three. Getting to meet all of them has been a dream come true! Okay, enough about me. Tell me, what do you want to ask Donna? Leave your questions in comments! I’ll be twittering live from the brunch and interview so make sure you are following me here!

And if you didn’t get a chance to buy the Small Gotham Tote in organic distressed lambskinicon when I reviewed it, get it now! I’ve been using it daily and love it! I will be carrying it to meet Donna but can’t decide if I should wear vintage Donna or new Donna. I have a few new things from the current season but thought it would be fun to wear my very first Donna Karan suit and get a photo with her in it. Maybe I’ll bring a few things and change!?!? Would that be stalkerish?

How fun, so you’d be having a Donna Karan fashion show for Donna? Haha

I have a question: How did she develop the discipline to lose and maintain her weight? She has not yo yo’d like some other celebs do.

Donna Karen clothes are truly made for women to look & feel good. Anyway I have a question in mind ” With the current economic situation, do you think there is a new definition to luxury fashion & if so, what is your redefinition to that?” Thanks Tina!

What an amazing opportunity! I would just die if I got the chance to meet Donna Karen. I do have a question I would like to know about, and that would be where she gets her inspiration from for all her collections. As a budding fashion designer I always like to know these kind of things. Thank you!

I just picked up Donna Karan’s Aries messenger bag and was told by the Nordstrom SA that there’s quite a bit of inspiration behind the creation of this bag. Would love it if you could please ask her to expand on this (ie: the type of leather, zipper pulls, the moonstone hardware, etc.). Thanks so much, Tina! Have fun living out your dream!!

Please ask her to get off her yoga mat and start designing her own clothes again. I’m just not inspired to buy anything with whoever is doing the work at the moment. Also, would she be able to keep so trim if she didn’t have that personal chef following her around? I’d love some tips if she has any.

My question is this. As a designer, what advice can you pass on to another starting designing with her own label? What vision and focus do you need to maintain to make your label a real success in the market place.

    Thanks
