Ferragamo Braided Leather Tote: Snob or Slob?

I just can’t get on the Ferragamo bagwagon, I don’t care if Jen Aniston is carrying one, it’s still a frumpy line for the elderly. I visit the boutique often, always full of hope that something will catch my eye and ‘click’. And most bags do at first glance but upon closer inspection something is always ‘off’. Like this braided leather tote. Nothing is really wrong with it except everything.  It just doesn’t work.  The braided handles are stiff and ropey when you pick it up while the Ferragamo logo clasp look like Christmas wreaths.  The pleating was a cute good idea but looks wrong, does it not remind you of a cross eyed elephant?  A college professor may find use for its 18.5″x11″ size but the price is a bit steep even for those with tenure.  I will give it a nod for its craftsmanship, impeccable braiding and detail, go check it out at the boutique and you’ll see what I mean.  Salvatore Ferragamo Braided Leather Tote   What do you think?  Snob or Slob?

I can’t agree with you. Your argument about Ferragamo being for the elderly is really getting quite old. If you’re going to make that case, then the same can be said about Chanel and Hermés. Unless you’re now willing to classify yourselves as “elderly”, it’s probably a good idea to use another excuse for not liking their bags. BTW, I love the bag, especially the color.

I feel the same about Ferragamo. Have you seen the window displays? Awful! This bag doesn’t do it for me. Ursula, you seem to take this Review a bit too personally.

When does one reach the age of “elderly” in the bag world? And what would that age be? 65? 55? The bag is fugly – I agree.

I am on the fence with this Ferragamo bag….perhaps Usuala is passionate about Ferragamo bags.

I don’t care about Ferragamo bags one way or the other. I think they’ve definitely picked up their game over the past couple of seasons. You can criticize their designs on several levels, but characterizing them as “old lady” bags is all I ever hear. If anyone here is passionate about Ferragamo, it’s Tina who obviously has a strong dislike for the label’s handbags. Nothing personal at all on my .

I believe Tina has a right to express her opinion about a bag brand. Just as you do.

For the bag, FUGLY! Elderly is a state of mind. You can be 25 and elderly with mature taste.

This bag is definitely a SLOB and I find the brand in general boring! Of course, I find Bottega and Hermes (except for the crocodile medor clutch) boring as well, so I’m surprised you don’t like Ferragamo! I could see you carrying the Python Flap Top Satchel…available at Saks.

Of course she does. I never wrote anything to the contrary.

Tina, I can see why you do not like this bag. There is something awkward about it that is hard to pinpoint but it is still there. Ferragamo did a silver bag that was similar to this a few seasons back that I have and I love. I think you should pick some of the other Fall bags from them to review since many of their bags this season are gorgeous. I think the brand isnt an old lady brand and I think you should be fair to the rest of their collection, however when it comes to this bag I agree with you completely.

    Hi guys!

Been running around all day in LA with Kelly. I’m on a ‘working’ vacation in BH and Malibu. It’s fun but exhausting! Okay, I will try to review more of the good bags from Fall (are there any? I have not seen any… yet)

    Tina, Kelly,

The advert for YesLouisVuitton.com that your website displays on the center of this page – that looks like a site that sells FAKE LV bags! Why would you even think of advertising for them?!?!

    Hi Jamie

Trust me, it is annoying to us, too. These sites are sneaky, they go through Google ads which we don’t have control of and are trying to figure out how to remove. Sorry for the inconvenience.

i’m in my mid 20s and have been buying ferragamo bags and shoes for years. i’m not so into monograms and logos and wouldn’t be caught dead carrying anything coach!

although i dont like this particular style, i think ferragamo has been reinventing its image and there have been bunch of gorgeous purses for the past couple of seasons. to me, ferragamo, bottega and hermes are understated beauties, but i guess everyone has a different taste!
