Bag Snob Exclusive! Bottega Veneta Paillette Hobo

This bag has not been seen or featured in any other publication or website! Bottega Veneta decided to debut this latest must have with yours truly, Bag Snob. I mean, who else has the bottegaveneta_paillette_detail.pngsnobbiest and most discerning audience? =) It may look like a woven bag with sequins but don’t let your eyes deceive you, the technique used to achieve this effect is mind blowing. Each leather square paillette is actually laser cut on the bag, they are not sewn on. The same process is used for each sequin. A layer of leather and sheet of acetate is adhered to the layer of woven leather. Next a laser precisely cuts the acetate into small square sequins. The same laser is then used to cut the underlying layer of leather into larger square paillettes. The panels are then carefully hand finished. Needless to say, not a lot were made, there is a limited run of only 250 pieces worldwide. This rounded hobo with the foldover closure is also a new style for Fall. It is absolutely perfect that such a novelty finish is done on a classic bag so that you can have glamour every day. And fit everything, at 12″ high by 13.7″ wide, you will never need another bag again! A brown version will be available shortly but the black is now in stores. You must go in to take a look in person, I promise you will be duly impressed!! Ask for Katherine at the Rodeo store in Beverly Hills 310-858-6533, and Joseph on 5th Ave in New York 212-371-5511, for $4950. They have not put it up on their website so we can have the exclusive for our readers but I’ll let you know when it is available at Bottega Veneta Online.

This is a gorgeous bag, however, I’m curious to know how the inside of the bag looks.

omg. LOVE. i have such a…(trying to think of a more lady-like term for “hard-on,” sorry) for laser cut items. laser cut leather and fabric can be absolutely stunning. check out altier manferdini if you want to swoon – http://www.ateliermanferdini.com (especially under “fashion design”)

    if only i have $5k lying around…

  5. Not really sure about it….

  6. At first I thought this looked like a reptile skin! Your write up explained it perfectly, though. I’m not a huge fan of the hobo style but I’d love to see this technique on a few other designs.

I got a lot of flack on my latest post about designer bags. I had to come here for comfort and understanding!

    Love this site!

You can kind of see the leather continues into the inside about a quarter of the way down. The interior is lined in suede as with all Bottega bags. There is a zipper compartment and a cell phone pocket. It is super roomy because the bottom balloons out with a deep gusset.

The “Bag Snob” is such a sell out.

  9. Gorgeous!

Bags like the above make me lament my decision to teach. I never have 5 grand lying around for a new bag when I need it.

Very pretty, but way too expensive. i’ll pass.

    Nice and easy.

  13. Beautiful, I want.

BV stands head and shoulder over other brands for me. Hermes quality has dropped in the last few years, as they cranked up their production.

Why did you get flak for featuring designer bags Jacquie? True Luxury will never die. At least not at Bagsnob.com :)

  15. this bag is boring and pedestrian. not worth 5k. bottega has done some amazing pieces in color for fall. you should post some of those bags. the pallet works this season. there are a number of pieces worth buying early

you should also show more of the alexander wang bags for those seeking style at a cheaper price. he did an amazing large hobo that is at an affordable price point.

keep showing the more expensive items. i like tp chose from bags and clothes that i love no matter the price point. i think your team has a wonderful eye

  16. I don’t know, it’s a bit cheap/tacky looking to me. No matter how they’re attached, sequins are sequins.

I went to BV on Rodeo Drive and looked at the bag. The bag has the metal framing on the top of the bag…just like the other one you wrote about so that you can change the shape. I have to say that the pictures of the bag are beautiful…but when you look at the bag up close…not so great. The sequins are not sewn onto the bag that well. I saw extra thread on many of the sequins that was sticking up on the bag. Now, I know that I could trim the thread, but for the price that they are asking for the bag, it should be in perfect condition.

Why didn’t you ask for a new one instead of the display? I don’t know, if I really love a bag, I ask to check out the still wrapped one instead of whining about the display piece looking a little beat up.
