Tod's D-Styling Bauletto

Before everyone drones on about how this is sooo boring, consider that it is a Tod's and they are known for the subtle and classic appeal. OK, fine, it is boring. But an immaculately made bag that is timeless and full of function definitely has its merits. And for a lot of women, that what they want, a bag that lasts forever and goes with everything. Well, this surely will and does. I saw this bag at Fall Preview and I instantly fell in love for the color. It is a warm gray, which they are calling Tan, but it is definitely more ashy than fleshy. And the simplicity is kind of mesmerizing, like a Valextra, looking at it puts you in a trance. It is so soothing and nice. Nothing wrong with a bag I'll use well into grandmotherhood. At Saks Fifth Avenueicon for $1445. Or call my good friend Carla at the Beverly Hills store at 310.285.0591.

Halle Berry's Thomas Wylde Santa Cruz: Snob or Slob?

Maybe if I was more into cowboy/rocker-chic I would like the Thomas Wylde Santa Cruz, but even gorgeous Halle Berry isn't making it work for me. The fringe, the braided metal strap (seems like that would hurt your shoulder), the skulls on the side and then to boot crinkly leather -- eeck! And with a retail price of nearly $2,000 I think this is a definite slob. Plus, not to get too graphic, but doesn't it look like the skull is vomiting the fringe!!? That said I do like the general bucket shape and size of the bag. What do you think snob or slob?  Thomas Wylde bags are available at Net-a-Porter.com

Snob Living in LA: Solair Wilshire

This has nothing to do with bags but I am on vacation and have to share my latest obsession. I toured the most gorgeous piece of real estate in Los Angeles today, the Solair Wilshire, a soaring glass tower above Wilshire Blvd in the heart of LA. Its zen interior calmed me the minute I stepped in from the bustling traffic of LA streets-- smooth black granite table tops are actually water falls (so please don't sit on them!!), surrounded by walls made of gorgeous hand polished granite cut and assembled in Japan. It is a masterpiece like no other building I have ever seen any where in the world. If I could, this is where I would buy my LA home (hint hint to my hubby, a big birthday is coming up). The amenities rival that of any luxury hotel, including a pool deck that reminds me of The Peninsula hotel poolside with covered cabanas where you can lounge with a bottle of bubbly. No need to go out if you lived here! But the best part is the sweeping panoramic views of the City of Angels from every unit. Love the Lakers? There is a metro station in the basement that takes you directly to the Staples center or Hollywood (and will take you to the beach within the next 10 years). Yes, there is public transit in la la land! Why am I telling you about this? Because for this weekend only (August 1st and 2nd) the Solair is offering a 30% discount on select condo units. A $810,000 condo will be reduced to $567,000 (first come first serve). Hello!!! When does posh real estate ever go on sale? This is a Friends and Family sale so make sure you tell them Bag Snob sent you! 888-8SOLAIR or 213-387-9099 Go to the Solair Wilshire website here! If you live in the area, it's worth taking a tour just for the eye candy (by appointment only). Jump for more photos of this spectacular building.

DVF Marisa Draped Wrap Hobo

dvf_marisahobo.jpg.png

I always get the credit for looking good when wearing DVF. People don't necessarily say, "Nice dress", they say, "You look great", which is a high compliment to DVF, she just makes you look like you have it all going on and the focus is really on you. I think that is her intention. And that's how this hobo is. You look like you know what you're doing effortlessly but it isn't a flashy bag that is screaming, "Look at me!!". There is a sprinkle of studs but very sparingly and the strap has these fold over tab details that are so unique. The bag is of course incredibly functional, being a true DVF, like the two zipper pocket on the sides to get to your stuff. At Neiman Marcus for $595.

LC in Rebecca Minkoff

There are few bags at this price point that are as covetable as the Rebecca Minkoff Supernova Stud Devote Handbag ($695). I've been eyeing it for a few weeks now and can't decide whether to get it in black or brown . It's one of the few bags I've seen that uses studs without it feeling overly-trendy/rocker-like. Not that it looks like it per se, but the Supernova feels very similar to Miu Miu's Studded Shoulder Bag in spirit (a bag which by the way I bought early this year and love!). They both stand-out because of their over-sized size and use of big, round studs. The Minkhoff is lighter than Miu Miu's version for those who consider weight a make it or break it issue. I'm liking the buckled strap detail at the sides and the gold hardware and unlike most of the handbags I currently wear on a daily basis, this style has a single shoulder strap. The only downside is that the closure is a magnetic-snap which always causes me to worry about pick-pockets. That said there is ton of room in the bag, so most everything falls to the bottom (hence the slouchy-ness you see in the photo of Lauren Conrad carrying the bag). What do you think about LC's Supernova Stud Devote Handbag?

Chloe Marlow Shopper

I am for sure digging on this bag in a big way. Although I don't know if this alone will bring Chloe back from oblivion. It is still trying to be a Phoebe Philo design, this is the slouchier and softer (as in leather) Edith. Original it is not, it's a patchwork of the Edith, the Muse Two and Mulberry. But even so, I like the relaxed vibe and slight edge. The zipper bottom compartment is a bit odd but the uncomfortable feel makes it interesting, I want to keep looking at it. That loose belted tie is haphazard but cool! The vermillion red is the perfect shade for the most versatility in a bag. Not too bright but will definitely turn heads. Pre-order at Bergdorf Goodman for $1960.

Miranda Kerr's Louis Vuitton: Snob or Slob?

I'm loving the Louis Vuitton African Queen bag from the LV Spring/Summer 2009 collection (updated version of the Monogram Limelight from the Fall/Winter 2007 collection). I have a feeling that the gold will make it "love it or hate it," but I think the metallic color mixed with the colorful tassels gives it a playful, tribal touch. The bag has a fun youthful vibe, plus the black twisted drawstring closure is quite original. I'm not too fond of how it looks against Miranda Kerr's dress, but I think it would be to die with a conservative black suit or classic LBD. What do you think? Snob or Slob?

The Louis Vuitton African Queen comes in two colors, Gold and Bronze, for $1,530.

Alexander Wang Coco Duffle in Denim Leather

I can see now why everyone returned this bag. As promised, shopbop.com got the denim leather in. You can see in this lighter color how gross the leather is. And why the heck was it done in this acid washed denim color? Ewwww. And the silver studs washes out the edgy vibe, making it look even cheaper. Well, yes, this is well priced but at $850, it certainly isn't "cheap". I say, all the people who have the black, take it back to revolt against this one or just to cut all associations to this version. Yuck.
