Ahhhh, the Mombasa! My first YSL, I got it in Cognac when it first came out. Loved it to death – literally, the bag ended up in tatters from overuse!! We work with Yoogi’s Closet, they are a very reputable retailer of authentic second-hand bags. You can even sell your old bags to them to pay for the new ones! I checked for the Mombasa and not surprisingly, they are sold out (for $595). Recently, there has been a revival of interest in the hobo as well as the messenger. This was one of the last bags Tom Ford designed before he left so it is as iconic as they come. The thing is, this bag never left, it is not extinct at all! YSL always carried is and has been since inception, they just keep it in the back in basic colors – black, brown and cognac. Now that there is this huge resurgence of interest, they will probably start putting it back up on the shelves. Mombasa Messenger is $895 at YSL, comes in black or brown. Call Will at YSL Beverly Hills for the Mombasa Leather Hobo, $895 for the small and $1100 for the large.
Yes, Mombasa is still available. It is very well made, as are most designer bags, so I´m just wondering, how on earth did you Kelly get your´s all worn out, surely it wasn´t your only bag ?
I have the Mombasa also and i assure you that its totally addictive and you will wear it out completly.
I know mine only has a little bit of life left, and i’m looking out for a new one!
But its so easy to fall in love with it and ignore everything else in your closet.

Thanks to the info on this page I had to immediately call YSL in New York and buy a Mombasa bag. I also thought they were no longer available! I got the large one, which is now retailing for $1395. Love, love, love this bag! It’s worth buying with YSL vs Ebay……
