Rich in Craft Antler Bag
By Bag Snob Kelly on June 5, 2009 12:33 pm Kelly Cook

richincraft2.jpgNow I’ve seen it all! A wool bag with a glass urethane antler (yup, you read it correctly) top handle from a company called “Rich in Craft”. I actually like that they went outside of the usual design box and came up with something so unique but all I see when I look at it is “danger! danger!”. I carry bags on the crook of my arm and I can just see this stabbing myself and my child not to mention innocent bystanders that get in my way. Come to think of it, this could be a good weapon to use at night. You single girls could use it to ward off unsolicited creeps, just stab them in the eye girls!

RICH IN CRAFT – GLASS URETHANE ANTLER TOP HANDLE $1800 USD/1300 euro

What say you my snobs? Snob or Slob?

Have a lovely weekend all!

I must admit, the bag is much more elegant and interesting than I would have thought after reading the initial description.

If I was to buy 20 luxury handbags this season, this may be one of them. However, in this economy, I might only buy 1 or 2 bags, and they will need to go with EVERYTHING. In this case, the Aspen-Chic trend will not make it to my wardrobe.

Slob. I had the same thought as you – perfect for self-defence except that I would most likely stab myself first. And the price: US$1800! At the current rate of exchange, I could almost get a 2.55 for that.

Btw, my best friend has just told me that a 2.55 is too 80′s and “French old-ladyish” (she was brought up in France) and thus not suitable as a possible candidate for a 40th birthday present from her husband. I disagree, but I need to come up with alternative suggestions. Any ideas?

    HI there,

At that price point she can do a Chanel Tote ? Does she want a Chanel? If not, what is the budget? I need a budget before I can recommend anything :)

I give Rich in Craft credit for originality but I’m not buying it. That’s an accident waiting to happen!

This has to be the most hideous bag I’ve seen in years. It’s hideous and dangerous to oneself and innocent bystanders…

I think that the other people that have commented are completely missing the point of the design of this handbag. First, fashion is not meant to always be practical, but it is supposed to be changing and innovating, regardless of how weird something might be perceived to be. Second, Rich in Craft created this handbag to be a conversation piece, and that is definitely what it is!

I would say that the budget was about £1,000, although I think that there might be some flex there if she saw something that she really liked so that she could persuade her husband. She’s quite classic and conservative in her tastes and she hangs on to stuff, so it needs to have longevity.

She also has two children (3 and 5) so it would need to wear well since, as you know, small children are no respecters of, well, anything really. Still, I think that she would be secretly tickled at the idea of getting something that could be handed down to her daughter, who at the age of three has a handbag and her own face moisturiser because she wants to copy her mother.

James’ Valextra idea is nice, and would be her style, but I presume that on the basis of the prices I saw in Barneys in NYC 2 weeks ago, that this would be outside the budget. Plus wouldn’t the children wreck that beautiful smooth leather?

These are good suggestions James, thanks. The Bayswater is a bit ubiquitous in London – I can guarantee that there are at least 20 in my office alone – which would put me off, but maybe not her. As per Tina and Kelly’s recent posts on Ferragamo, I always think of it as an old lady label, but maybe she won’t mind. She likes Celine, I know that and there is a stack of Celine stuff in that price range at UK NAP right now, although none of it really floats my boat, see http://www.net-a-porter.com/Shop/Designers/Celine/Bags. I prefer yesterday’s Jimmy Choo Odette black tote to the Blossom.
