Creepy bag of the day: Judith Leiber Owl

jlowl.jpgjlowlback.jpg

I read in the paper that owls eat dogs, a little boy actually witnessed an owl swoop down on his pup and take off with it in its paws! How traumatic do you think that was!?!? I have had a fear of them ever since, they are such sinister looking little suckers aren't they? Even disguised as a little beaded bag, I am scared. You know, I have never got the whole Judith Leiber kitschy beaded minaudieres craze (but ask me when I'm 50, I might change my mind). First, they are expensive beyond and yes, I do realize it's very labor intensive and the swarovski crystals are expensive but come on! $4,050!? Second, it's such an awkward piece to hold in the hand. Perhaps I'm missing something here, please enlighten me if you are a fan. As for this owl-- STOP staring at me. You, yes, you-- the hooter! Stop it! Judith Leiber Owl $4,050 at Net-a-Porter.com

Lol. I saw this at www.net-a-porter.com and hoped bagsnob would comment.

  • Tina, you crack me up :) But, in defense of owls, I think they are beautiful, magnificent creatures and yes, they are predators, and they don't distinguish between a dog, cat or a mouse -- it is just food to them... As for these Judith Leiber bags, I don't get it either.

Perhaps I am just worried they will grab me up since I'm so petite. I believe you all just solved my fear without spending a penny for therapy!

      Thanks loves :)

      • i love owls! stare at this for a while, it's like the antithesis of that bag: http://ohjoy.blogs.com/my_weblog/images/2007/09/16/ohjoyowlflowers.jpg picture isn't mine, but i have two of these little guys, from anthropologie :) so cute!

  • I think a 13 year old is more likely to like these than a 50 year old.

  • these awful clutches are not my cup of tea either

I like owls, actually. But on the other hand I don't think you need any enlightenment, Tina. This is just ridiculous, or may be we should say a hoot...

      omg, lol
      You are a HOOT!
      heehee
I guess I shouldn't pick on owls for not being able to distinguish rat from pup but still... creepy!!!

  • fugly and creepy
    a hoot read!

  • what's with the owls this season? they are everywhere!
    kate spade, lots of accessories...
    it's odd

  • Owls are my favorite bird, but I like creepy things! This bag like most Judith Leiber bags, is not only ugly and expensive, but it's not functional.

  • Creepy indeed. It looks a little like something Sarah Jessica Parker would consider wearing in a Sex & the City sequel right?

  • I think Judith has run out of things to bedazzle. The whole pave minaudier thing has run it's course. I would much rather see a woman carry a gorgeous pouchette with Swarovski trim from Larissa Barrera or another more unique designer.

Unlike everyone else who has commented on this Leiber clutch, I actually love it! I think the owl is not creepy and sinister, but actually quite cute! While it is a hefty price tag for a Leiber minaudiere, one does have to keep in mind that unlike most handbags, these minaudieres are truly pieces of art! They are so intricately made and so amazingly beautiful! Although, I do not think that Leiber minaudieres are for everyone, I think that for the select amount of those who appreciate them, that this is truly a lovely bag!

in some cultures owls are considered very bad luck. this one is a major slob!

  • I have never liked her stuff..its tacky. Expensive, yes, tacky yes.

I don't understand the appeal of Judith Leiber's designs..It's just a rock hard object to hold in your hand, that happens to have crystals stuck in every nook and cranny. Quite tacky in my opinion! I would rather spend my money on actual jewelry than a sparkly animal of some sort.

  • Tina, Thank you for making me feel better. My disgestive system feels funny today coz probably I had a heavy dinner yesterday. I thought it looks like something for display instead of using it.

  • i am grateful somebody else noticed that "thing"
saw it yesterday in nap and wondered who is planning to wear this and why is it sold out?
I like owls but I think they look better as Harry Potter world accessories rather than human accessories.

  • well it would be cute for a halloween party......

Beware -- completedesigners.com sells incredibly obvious fakes. She's probably just posting here to drive traffic to her own counterfeit business.

I would hope they are fake because if anyone thinks they're gonna get an original purse for 80 buck has to be crazy.

I've never understood the huge cost for her heinous bags either, most of the designs are ugly or ridiculous. As for your owl-bashing, it is uncalled for and unjust. I work in a veterinary hospital where we do get owls as patients, and they are beautiful and interesting birds. In response to your remark that they "eat dogs", well, yes, they are predators, and will snatch small pets (dogs and cats). After all, people and their homes encroach on the owls' habitat, driving away the mice and voles and other creatures they normally would eat, and therefore the birds search out other animals to eat, and the people that have moved into their habitat bring with them small creatures! So, don't blame the owls. As it is, if it weren't for them and animals like snakes and foxes and the like, the world would be overrun with rodents!

  • Not a huge fan of Judith Leiber bags but I admire the amount of work that goes into them.

However, if I saw someone carrying this at a cocktail party, I'd be staring and not in a good way.
