Bally Studded Top Handle: Snob or Slob?
By Bag Snob Kelly
June 16, 2009

ballystuddedhobo.jpgPlease forgive me for yet another studded tote. I am truly obsessed and it’s not just because it’s on trend this season. It’s just that someone is pushing 40 and is sorely missing the good ole’ days of the 80′s! Bally‘s studded top handle hobo is an eye catching rock star worthy bag but I do worry about its weight. 36cm is fairly large for a leather tote but add to it a pound or two of studs and I may have to hire someone to carry it for me. I spend a lot of time in private Pilates sessions to undo the damage from my bags and very high heels– now a reasonable and sane woman would just stop carrying heavy bags and wearing stiletto heels but hello– no one has ever called me sane or normal! I guess an alternative would be the Bally zippered tote (I’ll share that later) but it just doesn’t have the same oomph as this one!

Bally Studded Top Handle tote is 1,800 euro/ $2,484 usd here.

Enough of what I think, what do you think? Snob or Slob?

SNOB…Rock on T! I’ve been a fan of Bally for years and I can’t get enough of the studded bags!

Okay, so I think the studs are a little over-done (they remind me of barnacles; never a good thing. Especially when one has a dream about them growing…all…over…their…body…).

However, I find the details amazing.

For one, the woven detail on the handles is amazing. Classy, rocker-y and provides a slightly better grip than your run-of-the-mill leather handle.

Moreover, the way the handles are attached to the body of the bag – love it!

The drawstring adds an interesting touch as a closure, and the buckles on the side give this handbag a great profile view.

All said and done, it’s a great bag if the right person can pull it off (and I’m sure you can, Tina). It’s a shame Luisaviaroma doesn’t provide an interior shot of the bag, though.

    I vote Snob.

P.S. The shearling version is to-die-for, in my opinion.

    Die!

Total SNOB! I love the graduated studs! That attention to detail is what takes this from a too-heavy bag for wanna-be rockers to a beautiful work of art!

I think I’d have to see it IRL. I lean toward slob on this one – sorry Tina… I do like the handles though.

I like Chiffre’s reference to barnacles, and this also reminds me of a foot massager contraption my parents had with all the big black nubs.

PS Thanks for bringing back the Jewel Snob! I am now on my way to check it out!!

Maybe this a bit too heavy. No fun carrying, if it makes you ache. Not even,it looks great.

I have to agree the the reference to sea creatures. Maybe an urchin. It might look good in the right venue with the right biker look but it looks too heavy. I like my back the way it is.

Sorry, I give it a slob.

As much as I love Mrs. Roper, baubles should be around the neck, not plastered on a handbag. SLOB!

Don’t like it at all! I truthfully think it looks like a cheap bag! Doesn’t show off quality! It’s a slob by me!

Don’t like it at all! Looks like a cheap bag. Does not appear to show much quality or a lot of thought out style! Slob!

I love it. But it does remind me of a gay sex toy or something.

I love this bag. If I had the coin I would buy it with black studs and with the silver. Its just so cool and edgy. Who cares about the weight when the bag looks like this :)
