Bottega Veneta Mini Crochet Ball Bag: Snob or Slob
By Bag Snob Kelly on May 4, 2009 6:00 am Kelly Cook

bottegaballbag.jpgI really have no words for this ball (spare tire holder?) bag from Bottega Veneta.  It’s 18″ around so I don’t know how one is supposed to carry it, balanced on your head?  Clutched to your middle like a pillow?  Yes, I know when you pick up the all leather version it slouches like a ball but this one is more structured and holds its shape as a flying saucer.

I imagine the crochet technique is very difficult because they are charging $5,200 for this thing. Wait, I just thought of more uses for it– moon cake carrier or a pizza delivery bag but hello, five grand?!?!?

I am quite concerned– with news of Prada losing $50 million a day you’d think everyone else would be scrambling to produce bags that people will actually want to buy and use (not to mention afford!).  At Barneys New York.  What do you think?  Snob or Slob?

This is hideous. Sorry. I can’t express it more elegantly than that. Hideous.

well, if you’re going somewhere that you know has uncomfortable seating (sports game, maybe?) you can stuff it with scarves…

I thought that this bag was in their ad campaign and that it looks like a ‘ball’ shape when carried…nevertheless, it’s uglier than homemade sin and the “crochet” technique no where near costs 5,000 dollars. ugh! leather or cloth, it’s still easy to do…

all i’ve seen are the flat version of these in many pics, even from the original fall collection last year. but one day, i saw it on a mannequin. it was carried, and IT ACTUALLY LOOKED NORMAL, quite nice. so many putting it down is not the best way to showcase the bag’s shape *irony*

the best way to carry it, is to put it on your head, as seen on so many store window displays — barneys style.

If they give this to me FREE, I would not take it!!! It’s beyond ridiculous and the price tag is simply ludicrous. As I mentioned before on this blog, so many companies better wake up and smell the coffee or they will be down and out soon, esp in this economy.
