Miu Miu Cut Out Basket: Snob, Slob or for the Fruits?

user-pic
miu_miu_cutout_basket.jpgCantaloupe for $1!  Apples for $3!  This is what I want to shout when I see Miu Miu's Cut Out Basket.  It looks like it was inspired by ladies in Asia who shop for fresh fruits daily. You can see them out each morning before it gets hot; walking leisurely while chatting and laughing (sometimes carrying parasols). The only difference is their basket is made of plastic and cost $5.

Guess how much this one is? £484GBP/$696 USD. (And no, this is not an April Fool's Joke!)  Okay so it's made of patent leather instead of plastic but still, it is way expensive even if you want to use it for a fun beach bag to hold you child' toys in. Not a bad idea to use for the beach, actually.  No sand will stick inside as it will all fall through the cracks.  Miu Miu Cut out Basket Bag at Net-a-Porter.com

What do you think?  Snob, Slob, or for the Fruits?

  • Hi Tina, i laughed when I saw this! we had a green plastic one like this in china over 30 years ago and we took it to the market with us every day! SLOB! SLOB!

  • Tina,

I don't know if you remember, but quite a few years ago, there was a TV commercial where a mustachiod man sang "Strawberries, blueberries, cherries." That was the first thought that came to my mind after seeing this weird bag. SLOB

  • yeah...I would buy the plastic version of this to take to the beach at walmart for like 5 bucks too. this is completely ridiculous. Bad play Miuccia. Just because we are hurting from the economy doesn't mean we have lost our taste!

  • It is not 30 years ago! it is The Bag all the students at boarding schools carry to go to the bathroom, it is The Bag all the construction workers carry at lunchtime , you can see it everywhere in China. Look good in the pic, will buy it tomorrow at the market for half a dollar (not 5 dollars), my daughter will love it! Hilarious, good one Miu miu team.
The chinese one is better , it is DIY.

    Very funny!! hahaha

It's the "it" bag of China! LOL

  • Definitely for the fruits. This is cute but I have no idea why anyone would buy a designer fruit basket/bike basket/beach basket.

    Funny.

Prada and Miu Miu have been off my radar for years.

  • Yes! This bag is for the Fruits and Nuts. I have seen similar baskets at the dollar store. In fact, I think I bought one for my daughter. Who knew it was going to make such a fashion statement.

  • Is this an April Fool's joke ? Perfect for picking strawberries in the field.

  • This is an expensive replica of the original plastic one.

They are kidding, right? This is not really a Miu Miu?

  • No way, that's such a rip off! I love fashion as much as the next girl, but that's just outrageous!!

  • Looks like something at the grocery store.

  • I think its cool and I like it.

I could almost love it if it had some sort of lining... like a nice canvas lining, so that small things wouldn't drop out of the cracks. But then i guess it wasn't made for small things!
