Fendi Python Tote: All Pythons are not created equal

fendipythontote.jpg

Are you tired of my Fendi bashing?  It does feel like I pick on the brand more than any other but know that the criticism comes from a very loving place.  I have more Fendi baguettes than I can count and am obsessed with Fendi ready to wear.  But ask me the last time I bought or coveted a Fendi bag and I will pause… for a long time.  I actually can not recall– perhaps I need to go through our archives because I’m sure I liked something from Fendi in the last two years… or have I?

Take this tote, it’s python, which I love, it’s a simple shape, which I like.  But it just doesn’t work.  You can not take scraps of python skin, throw it together in mismatched patterns and call it a bag.  And the handles look as small as my baby birkins, which means anyone over 100 pounds will have to carry it with their fingers.  The design just does not make sense to me!  Nor does the price ($5,250!?!?!)  Yes it’s a large bag at 17″ but it’s not even one giant piece of python– you can see the seams clearly and it’s the back of the snake, which is not as sturdy as the belly though some will argue it is more beautiful and unique.  My advice is to grab the Tod’s python bag at $2,850 and put the rest of the money in the bank.  Fendi Large python tote at Net–aporter.com.

Tina, I think the reason why this bag is supposed to be appealing is not because of the design, but because of who uses it. I’m not sure if it is described as such on Net-a-Porter, but this tote is aptly named the “Twin Tote” because Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen have been seen numerous times using a supposedly vintage exotic version of this bag.

If I recall correctly, the twins, being as tiny as they are, are able to carry the bag in the crook of their arms.

Even they are not tiny enough to carry the bag on their shoulders (thank God!).

It does absolutely nothing for me. I would have walked right by without looking twice.

    i think it looks cheap

And the twins weigh about 85 pounds each

  4. I have seen the plain grey leather version at the boutique, and it actually works. The handles, etc. And it comes with a shoulder strap, or I have seen some versions of the twins tote with the shoulder strap, so that helps out even more, but pictures don’t do it justice! It looks great in person and the handles didn’t seen as small as they do in the photo. I like it!, but I would pass on the overpriced snake version. :)

  5. It is everything you said, Tina. I do like snake as a material, but when it actually looks like snake-as on this bag-well, I´m having small liking difficulties.

  6. Not tired of Fendi bashes, as they brand seems as dead as this bag. I used to fawn of over my baguettes, until they hit the mainstream. So glad you say loud & proud, Tina!

I have to agree with Lauren, I love the grey and the navy leather version….it would be a great travel/work bag as you can fit a laptop, files, magazines and you can easily carry it over your arm and shoulder with the shoulder strap!

But Tina I do agree on the snake version I just think its too much money and too much snake for my liking a bit of an eye sore!

Tina, I have a little question for you…on DEcades there was an awsome Barbie pink “32cm Hac Birkin” what is the difference between a HAc and a Birkin?

In this case; this was a handbag that a celebrate ask Fendi to make exclusive for themsleves. The Olson Twins. When paprazzi flooded the magazines of the Oslon Twins with this original Fendi design; everyone body wanted to know what bag it was and if they could buy one. None was available to the public at the time; it was a one off especially made for the Olson Twins.

Come 2009; the same tote now has a removable messenger/shoulder strap that has its strap connecters inside the sides of the tote. More functional; yet very fashional’able for the corporate / business woman who wants to make a discrete fashion statement.

  9. I Love this bag. I know the croc version would of been nicer but I couldn’t of afford it anyway…I think is cute and pretty good price. I am getting one in black and I will use it more of a business bag.
