Notting Hill Lola - The Queen's Clutch

nottinghill_lolaclutch.jpgNottinghill_Lola_open.jpg

This clutch was designed for Queen Elizabeth II of England by London based designer Notting Hill, which is why this is known as "The Queen's Clutch". I can see her with this very classic frame but doesn't she always carry a little bag with a short top handle strap? I'm sure the strap was put in for her if she wanted it. Did you see that special on Oprah where they went behind the scenes preparing for a dinner at Buckingham Palace? They measured all the settings on the table and the chairs with sticks to make sure they were properly spaced apart (meanwhile at my house, I practically throw forks across the table at people). The Queen gets a specially prepared meal that is extra good. Why don't they make every meal extra special and good? I don't care though, I just want to be invited! The Queen's clutch is in black metallic but this lilac python is fresh and girly and pretty. The best part about this clutch though is not the fact that the Queen has it, cuz honestly, I don't exactly want to model my style after hers, I am in love with the interior coin holder! How ingenious, I now require all my clutches to have this super nifty center compartment. The clasp is topped off with Swarovski crystals for formal affairs but in lilac, you can definitely use this during the day. At LuxCouture for $1700.

Alexander McQueen Wishbone Shopper

Do you have $6,380 to blow? That's how much the Wishbone shopper from Alexander McQueen will set you back. And no, there is no crocodile trim but you can tell that a lot of labor was wasted on this fringed mess. I don't hate the bag, just parts of it. Let's be sweet and discuss what I love about it. I love the wishbone rivets, the basket weave leather, and the whip stitched top edge-- it all looks so luxurious and well made. But the awful shaggy fringe destroys any chance of this bag ever seeing the light of day on my arms. This sucker is also huge at 52cm/20" wide. I do like McQueen's attitude of let them eat cake. Why should he care if the world is in a global wide recession? His job is to design and stir our senses; figuring out how to pay for it is our problem. Derek Lam's Hollywood Moment: The Romina Sac

One of the hottest designers of the moment in Hollywood is undoubtedly Derek Lam.  His latest arm candy, the Romina sac and the Catia, have been seen on A-lister Gwyneth Paltrow and young starlet Rachel Bilson and is getting lots of paparazzi attention!  We all need a big tote in our busy lives-- the Romina is fabulous and functional with chain detail, side flap pockets (like pants!) and Derek's signature tassels. It's also a lot lighter than his previous efforts due to the silk lining instead of heavy suede. Derek Lam Romina Bag is 14"x15.5" in size and available in beige or grey for $1,695 at Shopbop.com here I know it's time for lighter shade bags but the gray is a fab alternative to black for summer-- plus it will take you through fall/winter effortlessly.  If you're in NYC, head over to the Derek Lam boutique--212.966.1616.  Jump for more photos!

Louis Vuitton Monogram Vernis Roses

LV_vernis_rose.jpgOn April 1st Louis Vuitton will be continuing the tribute to Stephen Sprouse by launching the Vernis Roses collection; a transfer of the artist's symbolic rose on a Monogram embossed leather. The Collection is an eye catching interpretation of the iconic Alma and a new coin purse, both existing in three flashy Vernis colors: Rose Pop, Orange Sunset, and Vert Tonic.

Starting April 1st the collection will be available on www.louisvuitton.com and in Louis Vuitton stores.

Vernis Rose Alma - $2,730 Vernis Rose coin purse - $485.

I quite fancy the Vernis Rose color and can always use another coin purse... and I actually prefer the Vernis leather over the monogram version.  What do you think?  Snob or Slob?

Dior Le Trente Drawstring

I had a glass of wine with dinner when I saw this tote online so I waited until this morning to do my review in case I wasn't seeing or thinking clearly but Dior's Le Trente Drawstring Toteicon is interesting and fun to me. Okay, so anything that's not a complete hideous mess from Dior is a joy to behold so maybe this is why I'm cutting them some slack.  The drawstring tote isn't new to Dior but adding the foldover ruffle around the edges is actually cute and will be great with floaty summer frocks.  I don't even mind the dangling charm though I'd cut it off and hand it to my toddler to play with.  I will have to go look at it tomorrow at the Dior boutique to give my final assessment but seriously, A for effort.  Size is 16"x12", Dior Le Trente Drawstring Tote $1,950 at Saks.comicon

The Great Kate in classic Gucci: Snob or Slob?

Kate Moss is fabulous beyond words. Don't preach me on her lifestyle cuz I don't care about that. I'm only coveting her insane style and wardrobe. Who else can look so nonchalantly chic without trying? Here she is in a classic Gucci bag that I'd never carry but you know what, she makes it work. I also love her collection of leopard coats, from vintage to faux, she's got several that she wears often. I often read that Kate is really into diamonds, sounds like a girl after my own heart! What do you think?

Givenchy Camera Case - Way Overpriced!

givenchy_cameracase.png

I love Givenchy but even if you are a bank robber or if you just found a bag of money, this would still be a bad buy. This camera case encased in glass crystals is cute and kind of cool, it would be really fab if it were $200 (but as a camera case would still be steep). It is 5" x 8" which is too big for your average compact camera so this must be meant as a clutch of some sort, which only make the even more useless. The zipper goes all the way around the top and off the sides making it like a man bag, adding to the drawbacks. I am certain this was conceived during better economic times when success was measured by excess but now it's all about being savvy. If you found this at a thrift store for $10, you would be bragging to all your friends. "Showing off" is now all about how little you've spent to still be chic. Which is kind of exciting and challenging because it isn't really interesting just walking into the most expensive boutiques and throwing down a wad of cash to look good. If you bought this, you would almost be embarrassed to disclose the price, which is $3620, which I am still having a hard time digesting. At Barneys New York.

YSL Easy Leather Bag: Snob or Slob?

ysleasy_bag_2.jpg
Calling this bag the "Easy" could not be more appropriate. I mean how easy is it to stick a giant Y logo on a bag and call it a day?  And it's not as if they designed a creative new shape-- it's just your average boston style duffel with a logo on it.

Sorry YSL, the bag just doesn't do it for me. I do like the pailette print on patent leather but real sequins would have been better-- at least it would have been unexpected and exciting.

What do you guys think?  Snob or Slob?
