If you are a beginner Bag Snob and love the vintage look of quilted bags but not the price, Lauren Merkin has the bag for you! The Edie is funky, young, and affordable at $450. Even Marc Jacobs quilted bags (the former young girl’s Chanel) are really expensive now so it’s time to find other options. It’s quite huge so don’t let the small photos deceive you– 15″ wide! I love that it converts to a fold over clutch by detaching the chain, you can take this from work to happy hour seamlessly! Speaking of happy hour, it’s Friday and I am counting down to 6pm so I can have a glass of bubbly. TGIF all!

Tina, I am considering the Givenchy Sacca.I am in south Florida and have not seen the bag in person but know its at Barneys website. Will a Macbook fit in the Sacca? I would not carry it everyday, but on occasssion.Thanks.
I talked about this bag too Tina. I love it. It is on my “first bag to buy in this price range”, as soon as I get a chance. Love it…I think I prefer the black in this, even though I love all shades of blue/green. hmm..
Like Sherrie, the iconic look & feel of a quilted bag was masterminded by Chanel. So hard to carry a Marc Jacobs copy cat version, but I shudder at the thought of these serving as my poor man’s quilted bags. And, I heart Merkin’s clutches.
this Lauren Merkin is much better than MJ’s versions. I wouldn’t feel like carrying a copy cat version. It’s not like Chanel trademarks the quilted look. Besides 2500 vs 450…both are high quality bags, I could handle the poor man’s version.
I would buy this for my daughter in a minute. In fact, I will!
This looks different from the Chanel just has a similar feel but it’s much more fresh and young. Nice frugal choice!
This is lovely, but at this price point I prefer the Jeanne patchwork (not really quilted) bag by Mayle — I have it in a beautiful taupe/gray, and in black, and paid $200 for one and $500 for the other. It’s a younger look than Chanel, and is suede-lined (which I prefer to fabric linings), but a demerit is that it is not made in NYC. I definitely agree that Marc Jacobs is way too expensive — either keep it at $500 and below or make it Chanel!
