Something really terrible happened to my Tod’s Helmut blue python tote last week. I was running out the door with three tots under the age of 4; had sippy cups and snacks for our walk to the park so I grabbed the biggest tote I could find without thinking and threw everything in it. A few minutes later I opened the bag and saw that my son’s water bottle was open and 12 ounces of water was sloshing in my bag (which also had my Hermes Kelly wallet in it)! I screamed and dumped the water out immediately but it was too late, the damage was done. I hung my bag on a tree branch in the sun hoping to dry it (not kidding, the moms there thought I was a nut) and it helped a bit but still, my gorgeous python tote now has a dark water stain along the bottom of the bag (friends say it’s not noticeable but I know it’s there!). I really could have used this stylish, functional, simple and fairly reasonably priced Marni Wrinkled shoulder bag that day. It’s large at 16″x13″ but it’d be my “travel with the kids” bag plus it is soft and slouches a bit so it appears smaller. This green one is fab but I saw one in dark brown that I love, too. And see that very sturdy shoulder strap? It will hold up the heaviest of magazines/laptop/books/toys! Marni Wrinkled shoulder bag $900/£636 at Net-a-Porter.com

I’m sorry to hear about the demise of your lovely bag. Did you wallet survive?
PS – Your title says Miu Miu not Marni.
Hi!
Poor bag and poor wallet
I’m looking for a white one for spring, quite large.. Bagsnob, what do you think of this?

Your opinion is highly valued!

Are you insane? You should be given a life sentence for taking such a bag and putting sippy cups and snacks in it. Food does not belong in a python bag, it belongs in a canvas tote from Krogers or Whole Foods. Now gimme 50 pushups and say you will never do such a dumb thing again!
Oy, that totally sucks! Can Tods reapir your bag? Did your gorgeous wallet survive (i have the exact same one, i would be crying if i ruined it)?
Now, repeat after me: “I will not use my stunning exotics or favorite Hermes bags as toddler carry-alls”
I am really not the one to preach since I have done the same thing, ran out the door with kids and all their sruff with the bag that was closest to me at that moment. No disasters so far, but close calls for sure (both throwing up an inch away from my Birkin). These days I try to use either my MiuMiu or ODLR Faifax tote.
My mother-in-law gave me a Goyard tote for Hanukkah this year, i am not the biggest fan of Goyard, but I think it will become my fav beach/pool/park bag this summer. Even my wild kids cannot destroy that one.

Did the wallet make it out unscathed? I just saw the etoupe kelly wallet at Hermes yesterday, and it’s gorgeous!
Yup, etoupe Hermes kelly wallet survived (it’s the 4th time it was soaked in water/juice– another reason to buy Hermes)
Hello, I am a girl who used her birkins as diaper bags and spilled everything from sanitizing gel, juice and baby barf in it.
I really use my bags. I don’t believe in locking them away and taking down to admire only. I just need to be more careful
Yes, I will do 50 push ups and write “I won’t use my exotic bags as gym bags anymore” 500 times.
xoxo
This bag is absolutely gorgeous, but how heavy is it?
Hi Tina, I saw your post out on the Facebook wall about this water stain on your Tod’s. The truth is, to remove the demarcation where the water has dried, you have to re-wet the bag again, let it dry and then recondition. The procedures are simple and can be found online but I wouldn’t dare do it, since it’s an exotic skin. It is best that you send it to a professional bag restoration place or even a professional leather cleaner. They know what to do and to treat it with care.
Do you have a list of leather bags mothers can use to really tote kids junk and food around and survive the water staining and throw-around beating? Is it only Hermes?
Tina so sorry to hear about that, I’m so happy that you use your bags and enjoy them!!! Life is too short to keep them locked away in the closet
I hope your tod’s survives though, it’ll be okay, I would still use it. and way to go on using birkins as diaper bags…they are one of the best made bags out there, why not use it to actually do some “work!” I know you have a few extra to keep as pristine heirlooms.
Poor, poor bag.. sorry to hear about it! This Marni bag does look great though. Big enough to carry what you need but still stylish enough to the fashionista’s eye!

Hi Julie, Did you find the brown Sacca yet?–I have the Goyard which I also use for my outings with the kids–But I also tend to use all my bags like Tina for everything, I have been lucky, aside for the tiny water spill, nothing traumatic has happened to my bags!!
Tina-I hope you can get your phyton repaired! Such a great bag and color!! Next time grab your Sacca!!I like this Marni tote, price is good too!!
xoxo
Hi B, have not found the brown Sacca yet. But I have also been out of town in Anguilla, hopefully next week. I am totally not the one to preach, I have used Birkins and Chanel totes as diaper bags. No major disasters yet.
I have yet to find it, My Barneys doesnt have the brown, I can call another location, they will ship but I want to see a photo of the bag first!! Anguilla? NICE!!!
xoxo
I’m so sorry to hear about your bag and hope that Tod’s will be able to rescue it for you. Maybe you could use this experience to do a feature on handbag care and conditioning? I have just been told off by my friend because I don’t condition my handbags properly. I do keep them in the dustbags, but like you, I use them so they never look quite as good as when I bought them.
I will check at my Barneys on Monday. Hopefully they will have it. I want to see a pic of it too. Cream one is too blah.
I am going to barneys tomorrow for your pictures!
The brown has a black piping that i dont’ like though
i am leaning back towards the cream.
i wish they’d come out with pink, i’d get that one
Fear not! Next time just keep gallon sz ziplocs handy for all the liquids you are stashing into your lovelies!
OK Tina-Thanks SO much!!! Pink?–I would so get pink. Tina what about the white? did you see? they have it here by me, I like it a lot! really need a white tote. the cream looked dirty to me, IDK, I will go again maybe this weekend to look again, was rushed last time I was there….. =)
xoxo
Yes to the white!
I thought cream looked dirty too and imagine what it will look like in a few months.
I love the brown, wish it didn’t have the black piping along the top and sides. Makes it heavy looking and very wintry…
Looking forward to the photo of the brown, need to see what your talking about with the black piping…Thx again!! If I dont like the brown, then I will prob either get the black or the white…
xo
Thank you! This is what happens when you drink wine and blog.
Tina, you are so sweet to get the pics for us! I played with the cream bag a couple of weeks ago, it looked very grimy after being on the floor for only a month. Not a good beginning…If it came in pink, I would have bought it already, love pink bags for the summer. I saw a great pink Chanel tote at the spring trunk show, def. getting it!
xoxo
OOps the bag is actually 1405 on net a p
Tina,
I KNOW we had a conversation years ago about using valuable, beautiful bags as diaper bag. I guess it needs saying that toddlers fall into the same category. Seriously, I am so sorry about your bag.
I love this bag, was bummed when I read the brown had black trim I think this might be a nearly perfect travel bag, and you know that the travel bag is my holy grail.
What? It’s $1400USD on US site???
The sterling pound is weak right now and if you bought it on the UK site, you’d save $500USD. 636 pounds is $907USD according to the current exchange rate!
This is happening a lot at NAP right now. It’s look like they’re pricing up new goods on the basis of the pre-September exchange rates (possibly because they would have placed their orders long before then?) but it leads to some strange discrepancies. A lot of the new season goods come out much cheaper in the UK than in the US on NAP. On marni.com, UK sale prices are much cheaper for US consumers because you get the benefit of the drop in the exchange rate on a price that was originally fixed at around $1.8 to the £. For example, the Marni Acrylic chain that was $808.80 in BS Kelly’s post on the US NAP winter clearance on 12 January is £380 in the UK (i.e. around $549) on the marni.com UK site.
So if you have dollars, you should buy your stuff in the UK and have it shipped to you. UK prices always include 15% VAT (UK sales tax) so if you live outside the EU, presumably you can claim this back. This should mean that even once you’ve added in shipping, you should save a packet. Now, you just have to worry about whether returns would be too much of a hassle …
On the VAT point, someone has just told me that whether you can claim back the VAT may depend on whether the retailer is a member of a particular scheme (the Retail Export Scheme?) so I’m not sure about whether you can always claim it back. Sorry, I should have checked that point before I posted.
Tina, sorry about your bag. I had once a bottle of nail polish spill in my Bottega. Ouch. (I am not a slob. It’s a mystery, really, how it happened. My manicurist dropped a nail polish bottle into a hot water soak; she then used it on my nails, finished the job, twisted the top and gently dropped into my bag. Half an hour later I reached into my the bag and found a horrible mess — the bottle’s neck snapped!)You could not see it from outside, but my feelings about the bag were never the same. Had to get another one. Anyway, Marni looks great, love the color. I am thinking of getting it too.
Bummer, BUT now it has character and is always a conversation piece!
