Environmental and economical, just the combo we need right now! Just like Obama's economical stimulus plan of going green and saving our bank account - except this plan gets you a super cute bag along the way =) I actually bought Matt & Nat bags for my vegetarian sister in-law and I was expecting to get a plastic-y and sticky faux-leather looking thing but these bags look really good. The design also helps, they are actually stylish instead of some bohemian, crochet, home-made pouch with yarn string straps. Seriously though, these are good enough regardless of your dietary choices - the Frugal Snob price tag and environmental conscious materials are icing on the cake. I like the metallic, it adds to the distraction of it being non-leather and the texture makes the silver look more expensive, for silver that is. Of course the black is always the safe choice to hide any limitations of synthetic and is obviously more practical. The asymmetrical zippers and tab details are super chic and the hobo shape is back (although it didn't leave for very long). At Neiman Marcus for $240.

there are many gorgeous bags not made out of leather, unfortunately these are not among them. so sorry :(

I'm actually a fan of Matt & Nat -- they're very creative in terms of the materials they use. What are these made of? They look a bit like the Japanese rice paper bags they released for Fall/Winter...
My sister-in-law has one of their bags. The bags are well made and are very stylish. I believe that they are rice paper bags. At least they are not as expensive as Stella McCartney bags are!!
FWIW, 'pleather' and other fake leather are petroleum-based products. Not 'green' as leather-wearers are lectured about.
I guess the only justification for using these materials is you don't wear animals, not that you want to go eco-friendly, IMO.
The bags are OK, certainly not worth 240.00. I find as cute or more at Target for two-digit prices.
I usually love shiny things, but these aren't really doing it for me. I agree with LP, not worth $240. I'll def. check out the designer though, maybe they have other bags I'd like more.
They do look like they're made from japanese rice papers. But such material is durable enough to make the bag last long. I find those really adorable :)

LP's comment is absolutely TRUE - many of the "vegan" materials are indeed worse than leather, which at least is natural. Much of the time it is a marketing ruse.
Pleather (aka: PLASTIC) is the gift that keeps on giving: hot in the summer, cold in the winter, and DOES NOT DISINTEGRATE when discarded in landfills.

Correction for Carni-Commentors: This bag is NOT made of pleather. Made and Nat do not use PVC in their Japanese Paper designs.
