It was hard to miss this oversized studded clutch under the arm of Ugly Betty star Becki Newton, and we do have to say that it is a great update to the studded/grommeted bag trend. We wouldn’t necessarily recommend wearing it with a blue jewel-tone silk and tulle party dress, but there are plenty of other options like a jersey LBD or a one-shouldered matte gown.
Back to the bag: we’ve found a nice selection of clutches that will give you the affordable “tough meets evening” look with anything from just a several studded pieces of hardware to a smattering of them. First up is the Chinese Laundry Stud Clutch ($49, Piperlime.com) that also incorporates an interlocking design. For more of a subtle stud aesthetic, try the Pyramid Stud Clutch ($17.99, Forever21), where the studs are the same color as the fabric (in this case, black or pink). Jump for more frugal options!
Our favorite pick is the Dylan Folding Clutch
($168, CoutureCandy.com), for its washed Italian leather and exposed
zipper detailing. A close contender to match Becki Newman’s clutch is
this Stuart Weitzman Black Satin ‘Nite Bownight’ Clutch,
($161, Bluefly.com) with it’s columns and rows of neatly attached studs
and a rectangular shape. Our final recommendation is this Tianni Leather Zip Top Clutch, ($34.99, ebags.com) for its more delicate studs and angular design.
As you can see, it’s quite easy to get a studded clutch, ala Becki Newton, and most certainly one on a budget!

I actually think it kinda works with her dress, but then again the dress wouldn’t even work on anyone over the age of 25… so more power to her!
