New Year's Eve Celebration!

pradaevening.jpgAfter all the holiday shopping you're probably sick of buying things (is that even possible?) but I had to share this yummy little clutch that will glitter brightly to 2009. Finally, a bag from Prada I am coveting! The black Raso satin clutch trimmed in Swarovski crystals is elegant but far from boring. I love a bit of bling on a bag and the green stones really make the clutch pop and stand out. You can wear basic black or go for a bright color to contrast. I prefer this asymmetric dress from Roland Mouret (are you surprised)? Look at the back of it, so unexpected! As for shoes, go nuts and flashy-- come on, it's New Years Eve! These Loubies with the silver heel are to die, the ankle strap will hold you in so you can boogie til next year! Prada Clutch is 9"x5" at Saks for $795. If you order now you can get it in time for your big night out! Dresses at Net-a-porter.com

  • Hi Bag Snobs! I love your blog and I was wondering if you could help me with choosing a bag. I'm looking for a job so I need a basic black leather bag that will look good during interviews, and that I can use later when I start work (hopefully!). So far I've narrowed down my search to Mulberry, Miu Miu or Prada, and I think I'm leaning towards the Miu Miu Coffer, even though it's an older style. Do you have any suggestions for what else I should look at, or a better choice than the Coffer? Thanks!

    • Can I give you my opinion? I love the Coffer, I own it. But how about YSL Muse? its a classic...own couple of those as well, LOVE THEM!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!

    • If you don't mind another opinion, try Furla -- here's why. You don't say in what field you're job-hunting. If it's a more creative field, then the Miu Miu Coffer would be fine. But IMHO it's a little trendy & busy, & may not hold up over time. For a more traditional field, I agree with B's reply that you can't go wrong with the YSL Muse --- it's classic and will look current for years. But if you're job-hunting, the YSL may be too pricey. Which brings me to Furla, particularly the Furla Afrodite. It's reminiscent of the Muse and it's now on sale. An online hunt should net you a black one for under $500.

    • Hi Vanessa,
Sorry for the late reply... I've been playing hooky from work for a few days :)

Okay, I like your choices-- the Miu Miu coffer is great but have you looked at the new Marni top handle? It fits a laptop and files and is very stylish...

You can get it in black or dark grey with resin top handle.
      Good luck!
      xo

  • Hi ! But Furla is cheap leather and, frankly not so well done as thirty years ago when they were manufactured in Italy. Furla has no personality, they copy and copy. And when you buy them you don't feel that same thrill that you feel buying Prada, Balenciaga, Miu Miu or YSL.
I wish you good luck for your job !
(sorry my bad english, I'm writing from France).

  • Hi everyone, thanks for the comments and suggestions so far! I'm going for a corporate job, so I think weaslgrl, you're right, it's too trendy. Plus it's an older style so I'm not sure if I want to shell out full price for a bag that's already a bit passé...

I've had some bad experiences at Furla, especially with shoddy workmanship, so I think for now I'd rather just spend a bit more now on a bag that will last me 2, maybe 3 years instead.

I love the YSL Muse in theory but it's just so big- I'm quite petite (5'3") and the bag just swamps me!

I had another look at the shops today and was thinking of the Chloe Paraty as well, although it will have to be in the leather not the python because the python is just a bit out of my price range. Also, what do people feel about the Mulberry Bayswater or Shimmy?

    • Vanessa~The Muse comes in a smaller size which I think with your frame would def be better then the larger size, go to YSL~they have loads of bags, Rive Gauche is fabulous as well(I have it in black leather and camel ostrich!!) LOVE!!
I LOVE the Chloe Paraty, but a bit trendy, but still a GREAT bag!! (IMO) =) Givenchy has some great bags as well!!(nightingale) I have 2 of their larger styles, but they have med size. DO you have a Barneys near you? if not, Barneys.com will do! Happy Shopping!!

  • Vanessa, the Bayswater is beautiful. Also look at Anya Hindmarch for more petite bags. Good luck!
Camille, je vous remercie pour les informations sur Furla. J'ai envisagé d'acheter le Carmen, mais maintenant je pense à nouveau!

  • Love this one. Great bag for New Years Eve party.

  • Mulberry Bayswater doesn't have a good reputation here in UK, personally I think the brand is overpriced and to be honest, owning one of their bags is nowhere near as thrilling as owning a Miu Miu or YSL. I would suggest Yves Saint Laurent's Structutred "Y" Dome or anything by Anya Hindmarch. Hope this helps you choose-good luck!
