Double Vision Chanel: SJP vs. Reese
By Bag Snob Kelly
December 4, 2008

sarah_parker300.jpgreese_witherspoon300.jpg

chanelvintagezip.jpgTwo of my favorite actresses apparently have similar taste in bags. Both SJP and Reese Witherspoon were spotted shopping recently in Chanel‘s vintage zip quilted shoulder bag in grey aged calfskin.

I quite fancy this bag myself and if it weren’t for this damn economy making me feel guilty for shopping I would have snapped it up along with the other 3 Chanel bags I purchased this season. But I told myself 3 was plenty for the CC’s and that was that.  The bag is from Pre-Fall and it’s sold out. So good luck finding one.  Call my guy Alexis at 214-520-1055 and maybe he can help you.

Anyhoo, just curious, who do you think rocks the bag better? SJP or Reese?

Is this really any contest? Reese is a vision of beauty in this pic. She thought about what she was wearing – she tied in the coat with the bag so well. SJP on the other hand, threw on her street urchin clothes and grabbed a random bag that was laying around.

    LOL

Yes, it’s apparent SJP can not dress herself without a team of stylists.

Neither SJP or Reese, because I don’t care much for the bag. However, I don’t understand the “guilt” about shopping. If you have the money and are also saving some of your income, putting it away for college for your son, philanthropic as you are, etc., then go shopping. The economy needs people to spend. It would be better for the US economy to spend on products made in the USA but I don’t know if that’s a feasable consideration for you where handbags are concerned. BTW, on http://www.thedailybeast.com Gwyneth Paltrow really gets slammed for her website http://www.goop.com and her advice on how to dress and what to buy, i.e, expensive brands like Tods and Balenciaga. It’s a funny sign-of-the times because I think overall her website offers some fairly wholesome life advice. My 2 cents.

I understand when it’s cold you have to be practical, but I totally agree here, when does Reese NOT look good? Half the time I’m wondering why would SJP dress like a hobo…or wear her husband’s clothes.oh well, I do love that Chanel! Tina, you could have thrown just one more in the cart ;)

The guilt is actually from my hubby, even though I am financially independent and pay for (most of) my bag habits. He just thinks it’s a waste. Me being Chinese doesn’t help, we thrive on guilt.

I guess I should have also mentioned I didn’t get this because I already have the exact same grey aged lambskin in the 2.55 jumbo :)

This bag was my last big purchase in late October before I starting cutting back on my spending ;) I was at the Chanel in Bal Harbour last weekend and I saw they still had this bag. And I know that the Saks Fifth Avenue store in Dadeland Mall – Miami(which actually carries a better selection of Chanel bags than Bal Harbour’s Chanel store) has them too.

    Divine. Simply divine.

It’s a tough call, but I give my vote to Team Reese. As always, she looks so elegantly pulled together, but in a totally non-fussy, age-appropriate way. The grey of the bag plays beautifully off the checks in her coat.

Agreed. Team Reese wins this round.

I’m half-Chinese, and guilt is part of the game for me too, Tina! :) My grandmother is the grandmaster.

Neiman Marcus in Chicago had this bag last week. Probably still has it.

Reese wins hands down. SJP is a mess.

Tina, I know what you mean about the guilt. Jewish guilt is a killer.

She’s cute and I love her uggs, but parka’s are “practical” in no way have I ever seen a good looking parka. You can still be cute and warm. I know it’s possible. lol.

SJP looks good in anything she puts on. She could wear 10 different colors on 10 different accessories and pull it off. Reese is great, but SJP is a natural fashion queen.

They both look equally dumpy. Reese’s coat looks too big in the shoulders for her.

I have the Aninversary 2.55 in the grey aged lambskin, also.I love it. It will always be IN. I like Reese’s look. I love Sara Jessica because I will always love Carrie. Maybe this just shows SJ is not Carrie.

Hi, I loved this post as I love the bag.

Just one question, the word Chanel bags is highlighted in this post. It is an Content linkis advertisement link which brought me to the replica handbags website, http://www.copyhandbags.com

Is this a legitimate link found in this blog or is this due to my browser? If it’s a link that’s supposed to be found in the blog, I am disappointed as your blog celebrates beautiful authentic bags, not replicas.

hi tina and kelly – i vote sjp on this one – i mean, how many people can put on a casual outfit like that to go pick up their child and throw on some chanel and still look like you haven’t tried hard? on the other hand, i do think that reese looks effortless as well and is always chic in the photos i’ve seen. what i want to know is – who rocks the blonde bob haircut better – reese or james wilke? :-)

I actually like the look of the Chanel bag withe the parka and Uggs. I would have never thought to pair them myself. When I am dressed like this on a cold winters daythe last bag I would grab is my Chanel. I save them for nicer outfits and use a more casual bag.

And speaking of guilt, I am Jewish and my mother in law is Chinese. How about that one!

It’s probably a random ad generated by Google Ads. Unfortunately, they don’t screen those things.

Reese, definitely. That coat and bag was a sweet combination! SJP’s florescent pink scarf, on the other hand, totally killed her look.

I have this bag in the same color and while I really like it, the clasp is on the outside of the side pocket and doesn’t hold it closed. It makes the side pocket sag out if you put anything in it. I’m thinking of gluing mine closed!!!

They are both beautiful and good actors, BUT!

The pictures above doesn’t really do much justice with the bag and their whole outfit…Reese looks like an old madame esp. with her sunglasses on…but that seems to look much better than SJP.

    Tina, others, anyone:

If you had to choose between this bag or the metallic calfskin large flap for a first time Chanel purchase, what would be your choice and why? I can’t make a decision, and it can’t be both either :) Thanks!
