Thanks to Lina for sending this link to me via Facebook!
I can't can't think of a better way to spend Christmas than hanging out at Hermes-- with my family of course! My son is already an Hermes addict; they keep Legos and candy in the back for him to play with while I hang out, he loves it there!
From UK Vogue-- If you've been walking by Hermes' New Bond Street store hearing birds chirping amongst the beautiful Silver Birch trees that line the outside, you're not imagining things. "We almost have creativity competitions within Hermes to see who can have the most magical and creative windows around the world," Hermes UK communications director Fiona Rushton told VogueTV of its Christmas window displays. .... • The Paris (rue de Faubourg St. Honore) has gorgeous windows right now, as always. Hermes is definetely in the news. Yesterday I read this article about Lehman Bros. former chairman's wife doing big time shopping at Hermes in NYC and asking for white bags to hide her purchases. Apparently, this is going on everywhere in Luxe Land shopping stores. Kind of pathetic and hypocritical if you ask me. The article comes from The Daily Beast, Tina Brown's blog. Here's the link and don't forget to read the readers comments. Ouch!

    • '...Since the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy, Mrs. Fuld has still been a regular client, visiting the boutique once a week and spending $5,000 or $10,000 each time'-a week?! doesn't it get boring? Seriously, how many Birkins and silk scarves she needs?

  • I was in Hermes on Friday....There Christmas windows are always divine full of white birkins...silver birchse just divine!

I have a question...I am new to the Hermes Habbit, I purchased my first Birkin during the summer period...I went for the 35...only when it arrived in its bed I was surprised how small it looked, When in NY I see so many on the arms of the Ladies that Lunch at Barneys...surely they don't all tote around the 40?! I thought 30 was the most popular size? You seasoned Hermes ladies your tips would be great!

    L.xo

    • Hi Lottie, I agree, I think anything smaller then a 40cm is a wee bit small for me, I go for the 40-42cm Birkins ALWAYS!!! I am 5'8-Big bags for me are a MUST!!! =) Hope all is well!!! xoxo-----Enjoy your new YUMMY Birkin, what color did you get? OH ya!! like T said, keep the straps open!

  • Lottie,
are you using it open or clasped closed? it makes a difference.

leaving the straps open will it make it appear larger!

as for Mrs. Fuld, that is shocking!

  • Ahh, love Hermes. My kids always get extra shopping bags and ribbon from the store to build "orange houses".

Lottie, I haven't seen too many Birkins over 35cm (in Chicago), but with straps open it looks so much bigger. I am 5'8" and the 35 cm with straps open is perfect size for me. I think 40cm is too big for day to day, maybe for travel? if you are willing to take your Birkin on an airplane.

    xoxo

  • Well ladies thanks for all the info. I went with black(boring yes but very practical) as its my first, I also went with 35 as I like larger bags, but then was concerned that it would be too big but I was surprised on its arrival how small it looked, I hope next time round to hopefully get an exotic or just a coloured leather but these seem harder to come by at least in London!?

So your all going to laugh but I received it the end of August and I still have not taken it on an official outing....it has come out of its house on several occasions and I have looked lovingly, stroked etc but still am so frightened with british weather being so wet I don't want her to get damaged.....and I am slightly confused on how to wear what strap were to ensure my bag is shown off to its fullest...Tina maybe you could do a Birkin etiquette blog piece as a new comer I need your years of advice!!

Also do any of you have any direct dealings with Hermes London stores...I don't find them so easy to get things from...it seems only the mega spenders get there help!! Yet Paris seems so easy do you have this state side?!

Thank you ladies, hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!!

    • Hey Lottie,

Take that bag for a spin. You will love it!!!! Just not in pouring rain :) I take the straps of the middle lock and leave them loose. You can pull the sides of the bag (gently) so it expands and looks almost slouchy and definitely bigger. Does this make sense?

I have never dealt with Hermes in London. I think it's all about the relationship you have with your SA. I have been my SA's regular client for 3-4 years. I am not a huge spender but I do get a lot of scarves, bracelets, ties, etc. regardless of what I need, she can usually find it for me rather quickly.

      Merry Christmas!

  • I'm ready to take the plunge and get my first Birkin! The only issue is, where and how, after hearing so many nightmares about waiting lists, etc. I live in LA so BH store would the closest location. For my first one, I'm looking for a more neutral color, leather, 30 cm as I'm barely 5 feet tall. Any suggestions as to how to get one. The thought of going into a store and being snubbed and told to put my name on a list puts me on the verge on an anxiety attack.

I can't believe I really confessed the info above so now that I put myself out there, please don't leave me hanging ladies.

    Regards
    K
