2008 : Snobs of the year

Thank you for joining us for yet another year of bag adventures-- we've really enjoyed chatting up our passion for bags with you! The Snob family looks forward to 2009 and hope it is filled with fabulous bags for all. Kelly gave us the Slobs of 2008 yesterday but before we toast to the new year, let's reflect on the best Snobs of 2008-- it was hard to limit the list to 10 bags; despite our griping, there were more than a few gems this year! Happy New Year everyone, we'll see you next year!

10. Nancy Gonzalez Purple Crocodile Tote -Purple continued its reign both on the runway and off in 2008-- this regal shade stole our hearts and in a fabulously fun crocodile, how could anyone resist?

9. Leonello Borghi Ophida Tote - Possibly the chicest tote to hit the shelves in years, you can never go wrong with a simple black tote.  The python and contrasting white leather border brings a timeless elegance to this basic bag.   Borghi is definitely a designer we are keeping our eyes on!

8. YSL Marjorelle - This swingy bag caught our attention for it's modern take on the classic shaped Kelly bag. It is perfect for the girl who wants to lunch but doesn't want to look like she's trying too hard.

7. Oscar de la Renta Goya Bag - I have no words of comfort for those of you who missed out on the Goya boat. It's one of my all time favorite bags and the stingray gets softer and more supple with each use.

6. Gerald Darel Python Utah- A simple drawstring tote bag in shimmering metallic python is a jewel to be treasured. GD is not widely available in the US but we heard things may change come Fall. By the way, keep your metallics-- Spring 2009 continues to shine!

5. Hermes Medor Clutch - The best clutch of the year may also be transformed to a dainty shoulder bag with a scarf, instantly. The blue royal alligator version is on our wish list for next spring-- look for it in a smaller size, too!

4. Givenchy Sacca - My fashion editor friends all agree, this is one of the hottest Givenchy tote, ever.  For Spring 09 look for it in a distressed luggage brown, delicious!
3. Marni New Balloon tote - I talked Kelly into the purple but am kicking myself for not getting the silver version! Stylish and functional, expect to see more incarnations of this bag next year. ysltotembag.jpg 2. YSL Totem in African Violet ostrich- I did not find this under the tree this year but trust me, it will be mine! I know I need to seek help for my purple obsession so if anyone has a good name of a therapist, pass it on.

1. Bottega Veneta Duette Python Hobo - We both went nuts when we saw this at the BV trunk show. Lightweight, soft and supple; the duette is the kind of bag you can use daily and keep in the lifetime collection.

  • I have to agree with you, all of these bags are DIVINE!!!
LOVE!! LOVE!! LOVE!!....HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! MAY THE NEW YEAR BRING YOU ALL HEALTH, WEALTH AND HAPPINESS!!!!! XOXO

  • Hermes Medor Clutch - absolutely numero uno for me!

  • Everything's exotic? How come? Some of the bags honestly are not that great.

I'll give you the Hermes clutch, the YSL ostrich & the Marni, (Nancy Gonzalez & Gerard Darel are tied in my book), but everything else, not that special. I know you love Oscar, but the Goya was not a buzzworthy bag. Not really pretty and definitely not functional.

What about the Chloe Paraty? the YSL besace? YSL muse II? Prada striped bag? Prada fairy? just to name a few

  • Fabulous bags! The smaller Medor clutch in alligator is also on my wish list for next spring/summer.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

    xoxo

  • I love the bottega veneta duette python....man, so on my "never going to have" wish list...lol.

  • Tina, in regards to the Givency Sacca - I'm curious if you know the dimensions? I'm asking because I know you weren't a big fan of the Chanel Coco Cabas - at least not the black vinyl version. Do you like the Givency because it's more structured then the Coco Cabas? or did you like the Coco Cabas in the caviar leather? I'm just interested in your thoughts when comparing the two.

    • Hi Manbag, long time no hear from you!

The small Sacca is not recommended for a man... I'd get the medium SAcca with the braided handles.

As for the Cabas, barf! This is nothing like that-- the Chanel Cabas was a giant hefty trashbag with no shape no structure.

The Sacca is structured slightly and has divided compartments. :)

      You will love!
      xo

  • I am loving all of those bags, and agree totally with ManBag (waves!!) on the Givenchy - it's very chic and incredibly dateless!!

And the great thing is that it's not even heavy!!

Loving the medor too - what about the Lindy??

Have a great year, Tina and Kelly!!!

  • BV tops both the Snob and Slob bag list? that's something.
still, Happy New year and i look forward to more from you guys =)

  • Happy New Year snobbers. I literally forced a friend of mine to purchase the Majorelle last week. It was on sale at an extremely low price point...thanks for backing me up! We have one final sales event, in Boston, and that is at Louis. They have two new Marni balloons, both in taupe, that will be 50%. I can't, but thought I'd pass that on. I should get out of personal training, and into personal shopping!
As for my sales rack find...a black python Muse, returned only a few hours before I snagged it, at 60% off....I love the hunt.

  • Happy New Year snobbers.
I am loving all of those bags

  • glad to see the givenchy sacca as one of the tops. i finally saw it in person the other day..actually my fiance pointed it out b/c he liked it (he never likes anything bag-related). i wish i were graduating sooner so that i could buy it like..NOW!

  • The Marni and the Bottega are fabulous.

  • The Bottega is swoon...
