Bottega Veneta Cruise 2008/2009 Collection

A new collection is always something to look forward to and when it is Bottega Veneta, you normally aren’t disappointed. I was ready to be refreshed with a new collection only to be perturbed by more undesirables. Is this the end of an era? This intricately woven and intriguingly detailed Gorgiera Boston bag is a remarkable piece of work but all that effort is WAYYY too busy and not particularly fitting for a bag. Maybe like say, if it’s the trim of a couture skirt or dress, it would be incredibly beautiful but as an overall design, it just goes overboard. That being said, the Knot clutch is slightly more acceptable and appropriate because of the smaller size but it still isn’t mind blowing. It is in Karung (which is a type of snake, but it is a lesser snake skin) so the lace detailing has a bit more texture but my goodness, how much texture is too much? Wherever that gray line is, this surely goes over and beyond that point. I am a sucker for anything blue and this particular tone of Cobalt is the best thing going for it. It is vibrant yet perfectly neutral. I guess I could always go for a classic woven in this new color but I was hoping for some spectacular new shape. The Boston is on pre-order for $5860 and the Knot clutch in karung also pre-order for $2950.

One more Cruise Collection look after the jump.

What do you all think of this super duper matchy matchy trend going on? I’ll tell you what I think, I hate it, it’s boring. It is unimaginative and I would NEVER do it. It is like camouflage – everything just gets lost no matter how fabulous it may be. But this flowery patterned bag is not fabulous. I don’t get these Cruise Collection outfits that all match like this, why must you be so coordinated when on a boat? Or on vacation? It’s so specific. Even as a stand alone, this bag is awful. It’s giving me a headache with the gingham and woven all mixing together. Burned Orange Marmo Boston bag, pre-order for $2350 .

That’s so sad (and so ugly). I’ve loved Bottega forever and have three of their pieces that I’ve cherished for over a decade. I was excited when the brand underwent a renaissance. The recent stuff has been getting more and more hideous – talk about alienating your core customer, but this is the worst yet. RIP, BV.

it’s either boring or grotesque. I’m not sure what direction BV is trying to go. I never liked matchy match either. Poor BV

Totally irrelevant to this topic. I want to buy a YSL Majorelle, should I go for the black or violet. The violet does not seem like a true violet its mor magenta.

I’m disappointed at this review.. i’m sure if this was an hermes bag you wouldnt be so bitter. I think Bottega Veneta is a great brand with very classic pieces..

I love BV, but I have to agree, they’ve been making some scary bags (a la Fendi). I am a “matchy matchy” girl. I can’t help it. I would totally wear that orange outfit, but pair it with that Boston in Colbalt blue (with colbalt blue shoes). It’s the Betsey Johnson in me.

the clutch might be nice if it was white or maybe light grey. anything with that much texture needs a lack of color to show it off, and i can imagine all the little shadows being interesting. waaay too busy looking as it is (don’t like the top clasp either)

I like the clutch, although I agree with Kamo that it would look even better in a neutral color. The Boston is just hideous. What’s wrong with Bottega?!

i like the clutch and the gingham bag is not too bad, as long as you dont go matching it!

these are only 3 pieces so i’ll reserve judgement on the whole collection’s worth….

    I LOVE THAT BAG!!

I think the Boston is young, lovely and fresh! I would wear it with jeans, a print top, boots and a jacket. I’m actually quite surprised at the negative feedback… Although, I’m 22 and I wonder if this bag was just aimed at a different generation. When I showed this bag to my roommates everyone went though the roof for it!! The only complaint I could think of is that with the nearly 6 grand price tag, I won’t be able to afford it anytime soon. =(

This collections are busy. Everything is busy. There are too many details and I really do not know where to start. It is like you are in a deep forest. You are lost with all the details

I used to bookmark so many pages in each BV catalog. Less and less with the last 2 collections. BV will lose their most faithful customers with these overwrought styles.

The Blue Cobalt bag and clutch are GORGEOUS!! I LOVE them both, they are so detailed and unique. The Orange Boston bag on the other hand, is hideous! Too bad the Blue Boston and clutch are too expensive!

But I love BV!! That is why I am so saddened. Maybe I am bitter, too, but it is because I love BV so much.

I love the boston bag and the clutch, since when wearing either one would mean having that be the centerpiece of an outfit and thus pairing these bags with a neutral outfit. However, the orange plaid bag is awful, it is like taking a picnic table cover out of the trash and covering a great bag with it.
