Wonder Woman Tote by Diane von Furstenberg
By Bag Snob Kelly on October 14, 2008 11:12 am Kelly Cook

WWbag.jpg

I am usually not one for comic book bags but this one is an exception– it benefits Vital Voices– an organization dedicated to improving the lives of women worldwide and a cause near and dear to designer Diane von Furstenberg. Plus it’s Wonder Woman– what little girl doesn’t want to grow up to be a kick ass powerful chick!?!? I know I did, I learned English watching Wonder Woman in the late 70s!

DVF wants to empower women by bringing out the wonder woman in all of us with this limited edition tote bag featuring graphics from DVF’s new comic book, Be the Wonder Woman You Can Be: The Adventures of Diva, Viva and Fifa– designed by artist Konstantin Kakanias. Proceeds from this tote will go to Vital Voices. This is such a fun tote to show your Wonder Woman power (I am getting this for Kelly to use at the Beach with her girls!) and you will make a difference in other women’s lives, what could be better? This week is officially Women Empowering Women (WOW) week at Bagsnob.com! So go on, get yourself a tote and hop on your invisible plane because you can do anything and go anywhere- you are Wonder Woman! $165 at DVF.com

Sorry Tina, but I’m gonna have to call you out on returning marketing favors to DVF for being so kind to you and Kelly in the past. There is no way you would ever give a good review to this bag. Granted you may be doing it for the charitable call…but still…

HI Manbag, I appreciate your input… and I usually wouldn’t respond to a comment like this because you’re entitled to your opinion but I would like to bring to light a few facts that you may not be aware of.

First– Kelly and I love Wonder Woman — I even dressed Kelly in a Wonder Woman costume during her bachelorette weekend in Vegas!

Second– I will always support women’s causes… regardless who it is from. I am in a position to promote the empowerment of women, why wouldn’t I do so? I am not a feminist, but I am a woman. I am also not Mother Teresa but I do what I can.

Lastly, If this bag was made for gay men and proceeds were to support your causes, wouldn’t you give it the proper recognition if you had a blog with a wide audience? I’m not trying to be rude– but trying to get my point across.

If you take a look at the Vital Voices website you might understand. They serve women from Asia, Europe, America to Africa, it is a wonderful cause.

I love Wonder Woman. I had those underoos when I was a kid (along with a gold cardboard crown and bracelets). I would have bought this bag anyway (on Bagsnob or not, good cause or not). It’s Wonder Woman and she’s always been awesome.

Communication is always great, Tina – which is why I love your blog. I would love to see Kelly in her Wonder Woman outfit!!! But seriously (although I would like to see that), thanks for helping me to understand where you are coming from. And, believe me, I can see a lot more gay men carrying this Wonder Woman bag then women, but I wouldn’t be one of them. Keep up the great work, and I am ready to read your review of Chanel S/S 09 – I think I’m going to get one of those black leather shopping bags.

Uh, you MUST get the Chanel shopping bag!!! No question :)

I do have photos…… should I post in support of Wonder Woman and Vital Voices? I think Kelly would enjoy that because she looked hot in it!

I bought her the costume, white leather go go boots, the headband, the lasso, the works! I made her wear it all night on a Saturday night in Vegas, to dinner and everything. It was sooooooo funny!!! Trust me when I say it took me weeks to get that outfit together, vintage stores, costume stores, etc. This was back when neither of us had babies and had lots of time on our hands!

Great bag! I’m a big fan of the pop art style and Wonder Woman is a perfect theme given the cause.

We wrote about it here and link backed to you:

For another charity event that utilizes Wonder Woman in a TRULY inspiring way…

AND is recognized officially by the Mayor of a major national city…

AND gives 100% of the money to domestic violence charities and a women’s crisis line…

AND features over 200 pieces of artwork from some of the top comic and animation artists in the business…

AND which was criminally underrepresented by the comics press community…

Please visit http://www.Wonder WomanMuseum.com to see WONDER WOMAN DAY, happening October 26 (this Sunday) in Portland, OR and Flemington, New Jersey.

    Best,

    Andy Mangels
