Hermes Spring 2009 - An ode to Le Cowboy Francais

I am calling the Spring 2009 collection from Hermes "Euro-Western"; it brings to mind my French friends who visit and ask me to take them to see the "Cowboys" (as if I know where they roam?) and to buy cowboys boots immediately upon their arrival in Dallas. The French have a slight obsession with cowboys (go to any cafe on Sunset Blvd or to Cafe La Conversation on a Saturday morning-- you will see many French-Angelenos in their jeans and cowboy boots!) and it seems JPG does, too. Sure he is paying homage to Hermes' French equestrian heritage but the Stetson hats and fringe swishing skirts are pure American. Western gear aside; JPG showed off the latest Hermes darling-- the Pochette Medor 23cm-- little sister to the 29cm Medor clutch , in a plethora of fabulous skins and gorgeous hues. The gleaming alligators, lush suede and supple baby calf... they almost make up for the fringed JPG Shoulder Kelly bag (I don't know whether to laugh or cry over that one!) If you crave an alligator Medor like, now. We managed to find this lovely bleu roy below... price is around $16,600- call Craig at Hermes 214-528-0197 to order! I am also lusting for the deco inspired platform sandals in black and nude nubuck from Pierre Hardy for Hermes; the flat alligator envelope clutches, however, are not as exciting. (Jump for more!) Look at these shoes! I am in love! Especially in ring lizard!  They look so comfortable due to the platform and the straps to hold your foot in.  The flat envelope looks to small and flat to be of any use but I bet it still costs a fortune!

Okay, the elongated Kelly is great but the fringe? Lose it!  The Kelly clutch makes an appearance in chic black alligator but it's the vernis alligator Medor clutch that I'll be saving up for!

Love the wide belts, nothing spices up a dress faster than a snugly cinched belt.  The platform in patent leather will probably be the most affordable option.  The many petite valises JPG showed look like they'd make great briefcases but for traveling I'll need something more substantial in size!

The Shoulder Kelly comes in Fjord and Clemence and will retail around $10,600.

  • Just as I was think bagsnob was lacking in some great bag posts, you post this little beauty!!!

I was looking at getting a Medor clutch in leather but the exotic's look fabulous!!! Do they do it in an Oistrich too.

I saw the smaller version, did Kelly get the larger or smaller version? I never got round to finding the tiny kelly evening bag does this now have wait lists like the Birkin? What is the official name of this bag?!

So excited about this post, but Tina you are also making me very depressed I know the fashion world is already seasons ahead but I'm just getting into my wonderful winter wear and your posting about spring!!!! =(

    • Kelly did not get a Medor clutch :)

I know-- I am speaking at a ladies' luncheon at Neiman Marcus today about Spring trends, meanwhile- it's raining and hailing outside today! Such a downer! xo

      • I hope your talk and luncheon goes well today! Wow you must be still on your bag diet if you didn't snap up a Medor exotic clutch!?! Your doing well Tina, are you sure its not time for a treat? Lol =)

So is the Kelly clucth really called the Kelly Pouchet...think thats spelt wrong? does this have a wait list? Also if the new Medors are on the catwalk yesterday how come they are already available as I saw a small Medor in London over the wkend, only in leather thought?! Will the exotic medors have wait lists like the Birkin.

The long kelly looks more useable as a day to day bag, but do you think it will be popular?

  • I like the black alligator Kelly clutch most, cause it is so simple. Maybe it could be a bit larger for me.

  • Love the 23cm Medor clutch, it's definitely on my list. I have always admired the Medor clutch but it seemed too big for me. This one is perfect! The fringed Kelly has to be a joke. JPG has a great sense of humor...The deco sandal is to die...I actually like it in the nubuck leather, fortunately for my wallet lizard and python skins creep me out.

    xoxo

  • A job well done by JPG, especially since the collection contains lots of small bags! (how often do I, and am sure many of you, have aching arms from dragging around huge bags?!) But also feel a bit sad now because it will take many months before I can even start thinking about spring/summer. Woke up this morning to discover a large part of the mountains around us covered with snow!

  • Is the red clutch the new Baccara?
    Le gasp! I am smitten.
The Shoulder Kelly is absolutely stunning. Not to mention the new Medor clutches.
    How absolutely lovely.

  • Ooh la la c'est trec chic! Gasp!!!

  • Tina - You have so got that right about the French and their obsession with cowboys and the western! Ask any French person 40 or older and they will tell you one of their favorite movies is "Once Upon a Time In the West" Sergio Leone film starring Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson, Claudia Cardinale, etc. They call cowboy boots "Santiags" here like Santiago. My husband wore black python boots with a Kenzo suit for our traditional wedding. His French mommy wasn't too happy about that. :) When we lived in Texas he aquired 4 different exotic pairs of boots.

  • The cerulean blue clutch is literally to die for! Its breath taking and stunning. Oh Tina, I know you must agree!!! I'm brazilian, and being a latin woman we love beautiful colors like this one!

  • WOW! i want the medor clutch (in black croc of course)!
