We couldn't help but notice that the spring/summer 2009 runways were ripe with black and white handbags. From oversized totes to simple accents and several patterns popping up here and there, black and white are the colors to pair together for the upcoming season. For starters, Tory Burch worked with patent leather in a black trim emblazoned with her logo to prominently display the trend, while Phillip Lim got playful with vinyl polka dots, and Badgley Mischka kept it sophisticated yet sporty, adding a black racing stripe to their structured bag. Anna Sui showed how black and white can look fabulous as a pattern, Charlotte Ronson exuded downtown chic with a casual tote broken into a white top and black bottom, and Chanel took a similar tote approach, easily making it a signature item with long black and gold braided straps.  (Jump for 'Cheap and Chic' alternatives from $50 - $300!)

We thought this Loeffler Randall Hattie Black Canvas Bag ($295, Clutch Seattle) is similar to the Tory Burch version, as well as the Foley + Corinna Handbags Patent & Canvas Jet Setter Jr Tote ($275, Shopbop.com), and the Betsey Johnson Ms. Mod Tote ($298, Amazon.com) also embodies the patent leather aesthetic Ms. Burch was going for. Introduce a black and white pattern into your wardrobe via this.

Think Anna Sui with this L.A.M.B Edinburgh Clydebank Tote ($75. Shopbop.com), and go Charlotte Ronson via the Kenneth Cole New York Push Play North South Tote ($298, Amazon).

Totes, structured, hobos, you name it - any shape of bag rocking a black and white contrast is sure to be a hit for spring!

  • I would buy the Chanel black and white tote for myself (the one with the white on top) if it was bigger - a lot bigger. Do you know if they will come in larger sizes too, Tina?

  • How strange..I just saw three black and white contrast chanel bags. Besides the three up there, was one with alternating black and white squares hobo. I almost bought them but checked the temptation in time. They are really gorgeous though:)

  • black and white will never go out of style!

  • I came across an online community for individual seeking interracial love. It is ++++((((---Blackwhitemeet. C O M))))++++ All singles there are seeking interracial relationships. Interracial is not a problem here, but a great merit to cherish!
