Adriana Castro Mintaka Tote

This is the bag I had when I was quoted by Fashion Week Daily at the Gen Arts Eco-Friendly Fashion Show. I was worried about being insensitive but it was perfect with what I was wearing and besides, I just got it so I had to take it out! How could you blame me, what could be more fabulous than an ostrich AND crocodile classic tote? Well, it turns out, exotic was everywhere, and it wasn’t all that surprising! A superior quality, perfectly functional and sublimely luxurious exotic is the call of the day. The shape of this tote is just slightly different to make a statement but it is still classic and simple to let the skin shine above all else. The combination of the two exotic skins is pure genius. The contrasting textures is all the shout out you would want to draw attention to yourself, which is why I prefer the matte finish. The bag is entirely without hardware, it even has a hidden magnetic closure. The cutout top of the bag not only makes it young and modern, it is so comfortable under the arm. Everything is well thought out I want to say, one of the few bags I’ve seen without a flaw (it is even feather light!). It is lined in gorgeous gray suede with a zipper compartment and PDA pocket. It is priced incredibly well, only $2600 but because Adriana has agreed to extend her 30% friends and family discount to all Bag Snob readers, it is only $1820 (which is the price I got it for)!! That is the price of a trendy Marni! It comes in Cognac, Black, Ivory, Red and Brown but you can special order it in any of their available colors (too many to name). The Promotional Code is “ACBAGSNOB”. The discount code starts today and ends on Sunday, Oct. 19th at 11:59 PM ET. Go to Adriana Castro online.

This could be my next exotic! What color did you get? Would you recommend getting an unusual color or something traditional? Any suggestions?

Kelly I’m so glad you got one of hers. I almost bought a wallet earlier when you did the first promotional but backed out b/c I wasn’t able to touch and feel beforehand. But now that you have one that seems to give it the green light, which is good news for my exotic collection, bad news for the wallet. but it is helping the economy right? :)

So there were lots of people wearing exotics at an eco-friendly fashion show? That’s, well, uh…

Actuall, I guess only the fashions being shown on the runway actually have to be eco-friendly, so it doesn’t matter.

I looked at the website. In the description, it says that it is ostrich leather.

Kelly: Is this ostrich or ostrich embossed leather??

Also, I went to Target today and looked at the Anya Hindmarch bags. I think that they are the same quality as all of the other designers who have made bags for Target. The bags felt plastic to me. The designs of the bags were nice…I would rather have these designs made out of leather than plastic…that I would buy!!

I got one of them in the UK online preview. It has now been sitting in my office for a week. You’re right. It looks very Anya (in fact, the design is first-rate) but it is huge (far too big for me) and quite plasticky so I think that I shall be giving it to someone else who won’t mind the size (she’s far more fashionable than me), or (possibly) the feel of it.

I nearly bought an Anya patent bag in a sale 3 weeks ago but decided that getting a cream patent bag (which again seemed too big) in October was a waste of money when I should be thinking of something that would do for autumn/winter instead. So now I think that I am judging the quality of the Target one against the upscale one, which really isn’t fair, given the difference in price. Wouldn’t matter either way of course because it is ginormous so I couldn’t wear it even if it were perfect. I tell you, I dream of the day that bags go back to normal sizes. Having a bag that is the size of your torso (and mine is not teeny-tiny by any means) is not stylish.

If the bag is made of ostrich, then why does it say ostrich leather?? I know that when I bought my Nuti and BV ostrich bags, it said ostrich not ostrich leather!!!!

I’m just curious as to why the bag is so moderately priced in the $2000 range. Could one of the Bag Snobs tell me where the bag is made in?

    Hi Michelle,

The bag is definitely ostrich and not embossed leather. I think some people refer to all skins as leather, although I know most of us think of leather as cow leather. I have heard people say croc leather, ostrich leather, etc. but they mean actual croc and ostrich.

The price is so great because she owns her own crocodile farm! I want to get this in a color but I have it in this black. A bright color will show off the skin so much better.

    Love, Kelly

I am glad I decided to purchase the Mintaka Tote and the Vibora Clutch even though I had actually never seen them in person. I received both pieces a couple of weeks ago and I am in love with them. Everywhere I go people ask me….

I finally got it: This bag reminds me very much of YSL´s east-west totem bag in ostrich, one that I already have. No wonder it caught my eye. Of the two, YSL is the original and naturally I like it more.

I own the black calfskin YSL east-west tote and I am also considering ordering this one in gray matte. Both bags are beautiful and unique in their style. For some reason, I love this bag!

Can this style (mintaka tote) be easily carried over the shoulder? have you seen the red IRL – is it more blue or orange red? Thanks!
