Marc Jacobs Spring 2009 Bags

mj_multipattern.jpgI am happy to finally see some new bags from Marc Jacobs as I'm sure we're all tired of the Stam by now. Big, bold accessories was in order for the show - wide belts, thickly stacked bangles, neck breaking necklaces, tongue shaped insoles on sparkly shiny strappy heels but of course what stood out were the bags. The multi-layering of various skins and prints were indeed bold but nothing is too risky for Marc, we have all come to understand that his outer limits are boundless, or actually non-existent. They were great runway pieces and for the proper fashionista who can pull it off without a hiccup, it could be fabulous. But on some level, he does aim to please so of course has bags that can walk out of the house without fanfare and entourage. The quilted totes with the sporty stripes on the flap are sure crowd pleasers. Not a huge departure from his usual but in a good way, he updates the basics and keeps us buying. The red and green quilted lady-like bag is a bit too Christmas-y for Spring but I'm sure it'll come in 10 different color ways. What I loved the most were the bangles! They were rustic tribal but entirely city chic!

  • I don't like the bags but the bangles are fabulous.

  • Seems like someone has an obsession with Coco, and none look original to me. I'd go as far to say they're the poor man's Chanel bags. Trying to hard Marc. You had a great run, but please stop embarrassing us with your unstylish sensibilities. When inspiration runs dry, imitation does NOT become the ultimate form of flattery. I'd buy me a Canal Street version any day over these.

  • against my better judgement i liked this collection, not so much the bags. on style.com they described it all as "mary poppins goes to dubai," which i thought summed it up nicely... charming and exotic but basically unwearable :)

  • Its like marc is losing his touch ........ there is nothing we havent seen in it....................even th accessories are basically the kind of stuff that you can always pull up in a flea market ...................well more inspiration and bold creativity needed !!!!!!!!!

  • I LOVE those bags! I think the second and the third one are absolutely fab and wearable! And they remotely remind me of Chanel's 2.55 only with Marc Jacob's flavor...

    I think they are fantastic!

Thank you for the great post!

  • I love, love, love the 2nd bag. I think they are all great and would love to have any one of them. Bags are all starting to look too much alike - these at least have some personality!

  • I loved the quilted Runway bags and have already have one in mind. I was actually at the store last weekend and saw a perview of most of his S/S bags -- I'd say about 90% of the bags are new styles and the ones shown on the runway were just a fractions -- there are some gorgeous colors coming and interesting styles. And how's this for employee apperciation -- most of his new s/s bags are named after STORE EMPLOYEES!!

  • I think the Stam will become a Classic.
