3.1 Philip Lim Zipped Fur Bag

philiplim_fur.jpgphiliplim_fur_side.jpg

I just saw someone today with a ponyhair bag that was so furry I thought it was going to bite me. Pony needs to be shaved down really tight to be a part of fashion, otherwise you are just a caveman. So, having said that, this Philip Lim furry moss is great and I love it! The color of course is amazing for Fall and the zipped tote style is versatile, casual and hip. The circular handles are really cool looking but I do fear the practicality of it being that it is such a big bag at 21.5" x 13.5". When I get a big bag, I want to fill it up, if I didn't, I would just use a clutch, right? That is the one downside to this that I can foresee. Another warning, moms, don't even think about getting pony as a baby bag, caked in mess and stuck together fur is really nasty. Everything else seems so perfect, the zipped top makes this a perfect day time partner for city dwellers and can be used as an overnighter for those who have that need (wink wink). I even love the strange and oddly random bracket hardware, it adds an element of surprise and youthfulness. The price point is on the high side for Philip Lim but it is pony, $2375 at Browns Fashion.

Bally Alata Satin Clutch

ballyals.jpg I oooooooooohed when I first saw the Bally Alata Satin Clutch ($695), but then I saw the side view which made me go uh oh.  A kangaroo-ish pouch may have been a great idea in the design room but it detracts from the otherwise elegant lines of the clutch. Not that it's hideous or anything but it lacks sophistication that I expect from a black satin clutch. It feels so pouchy and casual, which just does not go with the formal fabric of the clutch nor the evening gown I'd wear with it.  At Net-a-porter.com

Marc Jacobs Pink Ostrich Stam

Marc Jacobs goes back to the classic Stam bag and updates it in luscious pink ostrich. Yes, not only am I saying something nice about MJ, I am saying I love this bag. You all know I am a sucker for pink, and pink ostrich-- swoon! The new pleated front detail is funky and interesting but then you flip it around and presto, simple elegance. I've always liked the Stam but it was soooo heavy in quilted leather-- now in ostrich, it is lightweight and did I say already it is fabulous? The only annoying thing is the price. For $200 more I can have the Bottega Noce ostrich with crocodile trim. And who in their right minds would choose MJ over Bottega? I will have to admire this piece of arm candy from afar. Press- USA Today September 3, 2008

usatoday1.jpgusatoday3.jpgusatoday5.jpg Wow-- what a great shout out from USA Today! My hubby was at the airport this morning and saw this with three of his attorneys. He was quite proud-- called me and read it to me (well, okay-- I asked him to look out for it because I was told it would be in there). But still, how cute is he?

Marni Acrylic chain bag

Forget the "It" bag, individuality is key right now and no brand has shown their uniqueness as eloquently as Marni.  Even a classic chain bag feels fresh and modern in Consuela Castiglioni's hands.  Marni is a line that literally has something for everyone-- I know a 15 year old and a 53 year old who both covet its fetching line of accessories and clothes (they don't know each other and couldn't be more different) yet it manages to look completely their own.  Such is the allure and magic of Marni.  Acrylic chain bag $1,695 at  Net-a-Porter.com

Botkier Gemma Clutch

A girl needs her clutches but a girl must have a day to night clutch to get her from luncheon to cocktails without skipping a beat. Not that that necessarily has to happen on the same day, but you never know! I'm on vacation mode so for me, it is an absolute possibility! I'm back in Boston visiting old friends so I understand the no car situation more than I normally do, which means day to night with just a clutch is like Tina going on a week long trip with just a carry on =) I'm totally losing focus here. My point is, this Botkier Gemma clutch is a Cheap Thrill that goes a long way because it covers you from morning til night. I love the simplicity and easiness of the basic shape and the jewel adornment is fun and spices things up a bit. It is much more carefree than a Kara Ross with the semi-precious stones, but sometimes you don't want to spend your jewelry budget on your bag! This clutch has great organization, there are 2 interior compartments, a thinner slot for thin paper items like valet tickets, receipts and notes and a main section with the zipper compartment on the back. At Shopbop for $395.

Pauric Sweeney Day Glo Bag: Snob or Slob?

I am strangely attracted to this funky day glo two tone python bag from Pauric Sweeney.  It's so kitsh it's actually cool.  I feel like I am back at a rave club (if you are too young to remember rave clubs, email me and I can explain more in colorful detail) circa 1993.  I can even hear the heart thumping ear splitting techno music as I gaze at it.  And this thing is huge at 40cm which makes me wonder if there is a disco ball inside.  €1,265 at Browns Fashion.  What do you think?  Snob or Slob?
