I like this bag for its sloppy charm. You know, its like that guy with the messed up hair, friendly, cuddly, a bit quirky and wears t-shirts (by the way, I just described my husband). It is comfortable with just a touch of weirdness for interest. It is also my Cheap Thrills pick of the week, which also describes my husband, it doesn't take much to make him happy and he enjoys the things money can't buy (friends, laughs, good company, free time to play guitar). I know this bag is not the smashingly awesome, drooling, panting "must have", but obviously my affinity for it is sentimental. It is just easy and casual but the washed leather and the knots do add a touch of flair. The softness if great, that is, until you put it down. These type of bags are so floppy they don't sit, it must be hung (that's why you need a Bag Snob bag hook, which we are now selling. Yes, I am blatantly shilling.). Another huge plus - the lilac gray! You don't have to be dreary but then again you don't want to be the neon light in the gloom with a bright bag, either. This is the perfect happy shade for Fall. Because this is Sissi Rossi, you know it's going to be big at 10" x 17". At Barneys for $965.

Not liking this bag at all. The color is nearly colorless and it is s o pussy.
Hi Kelly! When I started reading this entry, I was all set to dislike this bag. As I read your post, I began to love it, and now want one. I have to say, I'd probably use it through the summer and then store it until next winter. The color is lovely, but I'm not sure if it's exactly fall/winter. it's an amazing Spring color, especially for California. I love a slouchy bag and this one has a definite hint of structure, which I always enjoy discovering in floppy bags. And who knew, purse hooks!
Awwww, I hated it on sight but after reading, see it's sloppy charm :) As for Kelly's hubby, he is really the nicest guy (he not only puts up with Kelly's bitching all day long, he has to put up with my rantings as well and how he stays calm without resorting to medication is beyond me cuz let me tell you, we are no walk in the park!)
$1000 for a bag is a cheap thrill?
Its a cute bag (but mindbogglingly impractical), but seriously it looks like you need a dose of reality. That's a months rent for most folks. Its very nice to drool over most of the bags you write about, but how about spending just a little time covering things that are truly cheap thrills like the Target designer bags or the Banana Republic bags, like the Robson tote, or the Club Monaco clutches?
Tina, sloppy charm! Perfect way to describe it! I like the knotted detailing too. But, to be honest, for $965 it doesn't seem worth it to me. I'd rather save the 965 for more Hermes or even some really nice luggage, possibly Goyard?
K--I think I really love this bag, I love slouchy bags to death!! the color is diff but I also like it.
I have to agree with PJH and T, the more I read your post the more I loved it..THX =)
PS...Kelly you also just described my hubby..
(well except for the guitar part which my hubby does not play)
x.
Kelly-
I think we have the same taste in bags. I love this one. If only I didn't already have this color. I have a Balenciaga Hook and Eye bag in this exact shade...and you are right it's great for fall. BTW have you seen the Easy bag from YSL?
Well you did say "sloppy" and I have a fear of knot handles... they will unravel at the worst time... $965 isn't bad, but you've featured WAY cuter bags for much less. I'll have to pass on this one.
Licia - I think you're on the wrong forum. As much as I wouldn't mind a Gryson bag, the ones at Target look like crap...
ugh (as i place the back of my hand on my forehead)! i feel faint. yesterday, somebody was talking about walmart bags and now licia mentions target's "designer" bag collection. please...i beg of you...let's keep it snobby ladies!
empress - you're right about the target bags, but BR's are actually lovely for their price.
also i think it's rude when people say things like "you don't belong here," it's basically saying "you're poor and can't afford it." 99% of the population can't afford triple-digit priced bags, and those that can make up a minority of bagsnob's readership. i remember a poll a while ago and for something like 80% of readers, $500 for a bag was a stretch. you just don't see many of them commenting because they get chastised for being cheap. i read bagsnob to ogle gorgeous bags, learn about new styles, and refine my tastes (so i can pick out nice bags for less money). even if bagsnob doesn't start featuring <$300 bags, there's nothing wrong with those who buy them reading here and commenting.
sorry for the mini-rant, that's just something that irks me.
Kamo--I understand your point. However, I'm a bit confused, Who said "you don't belong here" am I missing something? cuz I don't see it.
hi B - no one said that to me, thankfully :) i was referring to empress' comment: "Licia - I think you're on the wrong forum"
How about this idea: keep this site snobby and start another one about budget friendly bags under $200? I'd hate to see this site lose that flavor but I get what you mean about the "cheap" thrills being not cheap at all. It'll be like bagsnob for Target :)
lol...i can just picture it now. tina strolling into target in her ysl platform shoes pulling a camera out of her croc birkin to snap a photo of the lastest cheap "thrill." gimme a break people. if you're not willing to save up AT LEAST $500, you may want to invest in a life long membership to bag borrow or steal.
JAMES!!! OMG!! seriously!! you gotta STOP..lol
I'm gonna PEE my pants...WAAAAY!! FUNNY!!
Kamo--I understand now! I thought that's what you were talking about, but was not sure.
I don't think it's ridiculous to want to perhaps see "Cheap Thrills" that people can afford. I'm a college kid paying $30,000 a year tuition AFTER scholarships, paying for gas at >$4/gallon, and making barely above minimum wage & 1% commission at a part time job. I love this site as I love keeping up with the latest trends, but even the cheap thrills are completely out of my league, especially when I have textbooks to buy for around $500 a semester.
I've been wary of commenting because of the people who look down on those of us who can't afford to have the premium "it" bags. I buy my bags at TJMaxx. Are they last season? Yes. Do I love them any less? No. I paid $150 for a gorgeous Cynthia Rowley bag, $49 for a Lamarthe. I cherish these bags.
To those of you who look down on those of us without $500+ to spend on a bag: Please grow up. Style isn't about having the most expensive purse on the street--it's about making everyone notice how great and confident YOU look. The price tag of a bag doesn't make you any more beautiful or interesting. A $1500 purse can look just as stupid on a person as a $20 one. If you don't like purses that are less than $500, then don't get one, but don't begrudge someone who does.
I don't know if this makes sense. I hope it does :)
chiara - i don't think style has anything to do with other people. if YOU love how you look, that's all that matters. who cares what i think about your cheap bags that are so last season? i just think that it's ridiculous to expect tina and kelly to feature last year's sale items, when this site is all about SNOBWORTHY bags. i would never judge you for not being able to spend 3K on a bag, just like i wouldn't expect someone to judge me for not being able to spend 30K on a bag. please don't feel like you can't comment. afterall, this site is more about obsessing over bags than actually purchasing them. i know what it's like trying to be fab on a budget. i just graduated from college in may. my favorite site was asos.com. you should check it out!
I kinda like the idea of keeping this site snobby yet having another site for bags that are under $500. Even designers have bridge lines, why not apply this concept to blogs too?
James....you hit the nail on the head there....your such a character!!!! =)
L.xo
James- I don't expect them to feature last season's bags, just cheaper ones occasionally. One can be a snob on a budget as well. There are definitely gems out there for less than $500. And while you don't judge people's financial situations, others on here definitely do. I'll definitely check out asos.com though. Thanks! :)
I thought the name The Bag Snob was "tongue in cheek".This is all for fun here!! I know a lot of women who have a lot of money, but do not buy "expensive" bags.I myself, do not understand why they wouldn't buy at least one, and wear it to death. They just don't care. They will have a nice "dull" leather bag or sometimes just a cheap , trendy bag from , who knows where.I will say, I think J Crew is making some good looking bags for fall, but I would not buy them, because I'M A BIG BAG SNOB!!
What's the point of a blog that only attracts the 20 women who can afford a $10000 bag & is actively hostile to anyone who dares admit they can't or won't. Your advertisers want traffic - that means reaching out to an audience with things they can actually aspire too & not alienating your readers with a mindset that says if you don't agree with our groupthink you're not welcome. And Kelly's failure to respond to the comments on this post really says something about how little she's actually engaged in a dialog with the readers here.
The designers aren't dumb - they are doing bridge & diffusion lines, some start out in that price point. They don't make money unless they move volume and they have to reach down to lower price points with better margins. So cover these lines occasionally. More importantly, style isn't driven by how much you spend - its driven by what & how you put pieces together regardless of price. There's are gems out there at every prices point, you just need to look. Whining about how impossible it is to find a bag for less than $1000 just makes you look lazy, stupid & juvenile. Grow up.
I just want to say that the reason that I said, "You're on the wrong forum" was the fact that Licia mentioned Target "designer" bags and Banana Republic. An actual Bottega bag or Prada bag under $1000 would be a Cheap Thrill - not "designer" crap from mass market stores. I think James got my point when he said, "Let's keep it snobby."
The intent of my post was not to convey that anyone did not belong here. All bag lovers belong here!!
This bag, for that price is not worth it.
This is a blog to showcase bags that Kelly and Tina like (and ridicule the ones they don't). And they're not interested in bags of a certain bracket. This is not supposed to be a democratic blog, it's a blog about personal tastes. There are other bag blogs out there, don't be lazy and expect them to do all the work for you!
I can see everyones' point of view. This website is for people who can either afford the bags or ones who wish for the bags. I feel that I am somewhere in the middle. There are some bags that I have purchased based on what I have read about them on this site...and then going to see what they look like in person. I have bags that range in price from $500 to $5,000. It is a personal point of view as to what you like. I could not afford expensive bags up until the last 5 years. One should not be looked down upon because she cannot afford an expensive bag. I look at other websites that are more middle of the road on bags, in regard to the price point. I also do not consider a $900 bag a cheap thrill, but the readers need to look at Tina and Kelly. They go in and buy a bags like I buy t-shirts...we can't all afford to do this.
I do have one complaint...I have asked a question 2 times and not received an answer to it. It was even posted twice on the 7/30 posting of the Chanel Sueded Alligator 2.55. I too did not receive an answer to my question. Now I know that we are all busy with our lives, children, etc...but am still waiting for an answer. Thanks.
omg...are these comments instant again? i hope so because that really makes it easier to have a discussion with the other bagsnobbers!
Empress - I know I'm extra late responding, but I just had to say EXACTLY! There is a world of difference between a great find at a vintage boutique and a walmart bag!
