Marni Silver Metallic "New Balloon"

I am not one of those who buys the same thing in different colors (other than underwear, flip flops and that kind of stuff). But this bag is seriously making me consider technicolor joy for the one you love. I love my new purple Marni so much that I actually can spread that love out to the silver one as well. I saw it when I bought the purple and thought, "oh this is cute too" but as you know, purple reigns! What I love about this silver is the marble handles! Just the combination and contrast of the silver, the ivory and saddle straps is insanely divine enough to make me bust another $2Gs on the same bag. Well, even if I don't get it, I had to share it with everyone because I know there are those out there who will be motivated enough to brandish their credit card on this one. Oh, and in case you need further incentive, I was able to put my laptop in this bag! It was heavy but with the shoulder strap, it was definitely doable. At Net a Porter for $1960.

  • I think the solution is I buy this bag and we trade off when we're bored.

I saw this at NM and almost told you to get this instead but the purple is so stunning and you already have silver bags. The bag is sooooooooo fabulous!

  • I once bought a Marni bag from NAP, and I actually sold it because I needed some cash. I regret that decision every day. Ok, maybe not every day, but occasionally, like when I see references to other Marni bags on NAP. Haha. Anyway, I like this. I'm not falling over for it, I probably wouldn't buy it, although I think the price point is far better for this one than other bags in recent post history. It's a lot going on, and I think I'd like it if there just one thing less eccentric about it. It's bordering on looking like the LVs with too much stuff on them.

  • I got a Marni tote with a shoulder strap recently for day use and I love it so. This silver color is exquisite! Silver is always a great color for Fall (Balenciaga has silver this season too!)

I am in love with a few of Marni's mens fall collection pieces.

Consuelo sure knows how to make hearts beat faster!

  • when i first saw it i thought "eh, the purple's much cuter" but the marble handles really makes it fab, much better than the solid black.

  • Since when did $2000 become the new $1000? It used to be that you couldn't find anything decent for less than $1000, now it seems like prices have hiked up to at least $1500-2000!
Not sure why this has to be ~$2000 when the old Baloon was ~$1200.

  • I like the purple better. I don't care much for the brown strap.

  • EliG, I'm with you. This is a nice bag, and I loved the purple, but it's a remake of the initial one, and come on, the prices are out of control. Even with the euro/dolllar exchange, there is no justification.

I bought the Marni black clutch (on sale) last season. It had the lucite handles, and they did scratch. These handles look sturdier, although the lucite is so retro and cute.

Ladies, check out Bill Cunningham's pictures on the NYT "week on the streets".(this week and last) You'll see New Yorkers, all in black, with huge bags. He states that the bag is the thing that is keeping the fashion world turning, at the moment.

  • Update....the slide shows are called On the Street, and the bag one is Insert Coin, the black clothing is Ravenwood. All of them are well done....New York Times, Bill Cunningham....check him out, he's very animated!

  • i LOVE this bag. i was all excited to have found my new fall bag, though when i finally saw it in store there was a massive flaw.... you can't close the top of it!!! what is the point of a bag that stays wide open? not very safe or practical. so i have said goodbye and shifted my lust onto the miu miu bow bag in the new graphite colour. a bag that has taken a while to grow on me (wasn't sure about the bows) but now love.

about marni in general, i have to say i love the satchels with the long straps. last fall i bought the small gathered one in patent purple with brown accents, similar to the baloon, and thought i would never use that long strap at all, but after trying it once was converted and loved the freedom of it (and the lack of shoulder ache). i love marni bags, they seem to get better each season.

i agree with EliG though, since when did marni bags get so expensive? mine last year was £595, and this one which is basically the same is £900, how did that happen?
