It's not easy being a glamorous movie star these days. Paparazzi chase you down your driveway and sell your photos to magazines who tear you apart for your weight, your clothes, and your choice of lovers. It's enough to make a girl want to stay home and curl up with a book or movie but not this bold fashionista! Lucy Liu has been one of my favorite actresses since her first growl as Ling on Ally McBeal and I always love her fashion choices. Unconventional and chic, Lucy pulls off things with effortless style. Like the exotic feather Joet below from Kotur ($598 at Neiman Marcus 1.888.888.4757) -- a unique little stunner that she carried to Obama's Black and White Ball held last Thursday. We love Kotur and were not surprised that Lucy does, too. She was seen wearing Kotur again last Saturday at a Trump International Hotel event where she used the sleek and long Miller (photo above). I love that she paired such a severe and contemporary bag with a printed and silky soft pleated dress-- the contrast is what makes the outfit interesting and totally Lucy. I know you are going to laugh at my schizo-ness but I saw these clutches and all thoughts of black bags have vanished from my mind! What was I thinking? How can I give up such luscious juiciness-- for widow black!?!? One look at the skittle happy colors and I'm hooked back. Nancy Gonzalez is killing me with bag after fabulous bag and making me lose my mind, I have been emailing their office daily and driving them insane with my incessant questions-- luckily Santiago Gonzalez (Nancy's son) is a friend so they tolerate me over there. Anywho, back to these lovelies, the flat croc clutches are oversized at 13.5", not ginormous but not wimpy either. It's just the right size to wear with, like, everything. Really, I mean it. What can't you wear with one of these babies? I can't think of single thing. I want it in green, fuschia, and purple. Okay, I want them all. What can I say, a greedy heart is hard to satiate so why even try? Nancy Gonzalez croc clutches $2,300 at Vivre.com
My love of Tod's know no bounds - it is not because they are the most stylish bags out there but that's why I never think twice about getting a Tod's, they are not the uber trend bags so they will endure. Tod's is always put together, practical and the quality has no competition in its price range. This is a bit off the map for Tod's (but not by much) with the top stitching detail and leather wrapped handles so it is a bit younger and definitely a lot more hip, especially in this taupey / grey that I love so much for Fall. Everyone is getting into a younger market these days, and who can blame Tod's, they are your mother's practical tote, right? I am not totally in love with the direction their bags have been going in but still, every season I am able find that one I love and use and use and use until it is seriously a mess. But I take it in for a cleaning and it comes back to me perfect and ready to go again. It also comes in a very soft pretty blue, but it is this taupey / grey that has caught my eye! At eluxury for $1675.
Heehaw! Or rather Eeee-Ewww! OK, I get it everyone is doing fringy bags, not sure why but I understand the need to hop on the bandwagon and get one on the shelves, but when you are copying the trend, why not one-up everyone by doing something better? Did they really have to come up with THE absolute worst of the trend? Why the double layer shag? Is it really suppose to look like bangs? And how is this for ridiculous - behind the bangs is a zipper compartment. Uh, I am annoyed just thinking about having to brush away those strips every time I zip and unzip. Maybe the bag comes with a ponytail holder. The overload of studs and grommets takes this from Rock n Roll chic to Hell's Angel atrocity. I don't even think Stella from Project Runway would find this appealing, leath-uh or not. At Saks Fifth Avenue for $1495.

I have always been a fan of the deco period, not only am I building a new home with a 1920's Parisian art deco flair, I collect vintage art deco jewelry (Fred Leighton has the best stock), and am on constant lookout for bags with a structured deco feel. I stayed in the Linley Suite at the Claridges during my trip to London-- which was elegantly decorated in fabulous art deco decor by Viscount David Linley-- and it made me want to move to London and live at the heavenly Claridges! But back to earth, I discovered the Maze clutch at the Smythson store on Rodeo 2 when Kelly and I had lunch at the Daily Grill (an institution in LA!). We had a glass of wine and went shopping, not so smart but oh so fun! She bought an adorable photo frame key ring for a friend while I checked out the jewelry boxes - so insanely fabulous I can not tell you how much I want one! Then I saw these Maze clutches, so clean in structure and simple in design it made me want to take it home. The suede contrast is lovely in its subtlety yet it makes the bag. There are 4 colors to choose from but I love the plummy version above right best-- it's a quick and inexpensive way to update your Fall wardrobe instantly in the very berry trend (and if you hold it upside down, it looks like a T monogram-- made just for me! $975 at Smythson.com.
