When you pick a color of a bag (or anything else for that matter), are you being totally objective and choosing based on aesthetics alone? Or is something else deeper lurking in that decision? I know, deep right? Bag Snob is not as shallow as you think =) We all know certain colors represent different emotions and characteristics so let's test it out and see what those are. Pick your favorite color: yellow, white, red, blue, brown, green, purple or black. Go to the jump page to see what that color says about you. Don't cheat! Pick a color first!!

yellow, white, red, blue, brown, green, purple or black

YELLOW

You are cheery, optimistic and love attention. When wearing yellow though, you tend to lose your temper more often and if you have kids, I would stay away from yellow as it makes babies cry more! You can sometimes be overbearing and hyper but you benefit from a high metabolism. But if you concentrate, you can be very focused.

WHITE

You feel the need to show innocence and purity. But what is hiding behind the sterility? Usually it is something a bit gritty =) It is a great summer color and the most neutral of all colors but it attracts dirt, so what does that really say about your innocence after all?

RED

You are emotional and intense. You crave attention and is a bit of a drama queen. It makes people uneasy so is not helpful in negotiations and confrontations but you love it! What you want is a story line based on your life on your favorite soap opera! Red is associated with love, it is something you center your life around. But we all can use an accent of red in our lives!

BLUE

Blue is the most popular color among both sexes. You are peaceful and tranquil and generally avoid confrontations. Your calm demeanor is contagious as people around you tend to chill out. But that also means things could get a bit boring and stale. Too much blue is well, depressing. You are also fiercely loyal, productive and can handle stress extremely well.

BROWN

You are everyone's rock, the most reliable and solid person among your friends. You tend to be more in touch with nature and your style reflects the earth. You are not super girly and tend to have male characteristic traits. You are sincere and genuine but sometime get in a rut of wistfulness.

GREEN
You are ambitious and always working toward making more money - it is no coincidence that money is green! You are in touch with your femininity as green symbolized fertility, which another symbol of "wealth". You are generally calm and appreciate minimalism - you hate clutter and complications. You tend to be more conservative (that's the Republican fiscal responsible side of you!).

PURPLE

You lavish yourself in luxury and love the finer things in life. Purple is the color of royalty. In imperial China, no one other than the Emperor can wear purple. You are a true romantic and ultra feminine but tend to live outside of reality. You tend to have a distorted view of yourself but to others you are nothing if not sophisticated.

BLACK

You seek authority and power. But be careful, too much black can make you a villain, as it is the common color for fictional evil characters. It is also the color of submission so be careful which way that authority and power is going. Black makes us thin so we like to wear it but does that mean we are submitting to the social standard of thin equating to beauty? Wow, this is complicated, which is the point here. Black sucks in all light so naturally it is confusing.

By the way, this is my own interpretation from the research I read from Info Please. There is absolutely no scientific basis for this but how did I do? Am I accurate?

  • this is all very true, I would love to be able to carry purple bags every day since it's my fav color but I tend to go for blue/navy since it's more conservative (read looks better in office environment!)

  • i chose black and i'm ashamed to say it was pretty accurate. well at least now i know why i can't seem to find a brown bag i like. btw i love that nancy gonzalez bag and fyi a brand new odlr doheny in white OSTRICH is on portero for only $1645. here's the link.

  • How fun! I did not know she was doing this so I got to play like a reader.

I chose Purple first, then Red.

Now that I've read both, it's very accurate! So basically I am a delusional drama queen who loves living in the lap of luxury. LOL

    Nice work Dr. Kelly.

  • I chose purple and it made me laugh. You're right, I live in an alternate reality for sure, it's ridiculous.

  • i'd say blue/green were pretty accurate for me! although i'd like to know what grey means - i'm always drawn towards grey/silver bags.

  • This is way cool K...T I'm laughing cuz I chose red first, then purple...lol. its pretty accurate...accept for I am NOT as much as a drama queen as I was when I was lets say in my 20's...I'm 2 tired...lol

    xox..

  • My eyes just locked on that bright yellow clutch, and it was pretty accurate. Aside from the high metabolism part.. but the quick temper, optimistic, cheery, hyper, etc., all very true!!

  • hey now... you changed the blue bag! i liked the other one better, lol.

  • I was red ... the confrontation part of the analysis was spot-on, but I've definitely never wanted a soap opera storyline based on my life!

  • I changed the blue bag because the other one was teal so it was unclear whether it was blue or green. I agree, that Carlos Falchi clutch was better but for the sake of my experiment, I need to be scientific =)

    Love,
    Kelly

  • Hm, I chose purple, and it's pretty accurate. Now I understand why last year my husband got me a 35cm. Birkin in purple, lined in a glorious pinkish- purple color, with the sides trimmed in the pink color. It's extremely unique, as there were less than a dozen produced. I thought after carrying it last winter, I would not want to use it this fall, but in reading your description, I've reconnected to my romantic, sophisticated, and delusional self. Thanks!

  • not so bad.. I did not really think about it and went right for brown (I am really , truly a brown bag person)..the description is correct, very funny

  • Hey Guys! I didn't know you're a Fashion Police too! I just found this-good comment!:D

  • I chose blue... the personality description fits. I avoid confrontation to the extreme. Can't everybody just get along? I think i am boring too.

  • Fabulous entry Kelly...I choose purple but had 2 others colours that came a close second were equally accurate!

Chanin your bag sounds fabulous...send picture to Tina and Kelly would love to see it...what a fantastic hubby you have!

    L.xo

  • i chose blue and it was right on...

  • can someone tell me why they're asking over $4K for a croc embossed pair of shoes?
    http://www.barneys.com/Blixa/15510.5189,default,sp.html?cgid=MAIN04&start=43&sz=1

somehow it just doesn't seem right..

  • I chose black, red and purple haha. I mainly have black handbags though because most of my wardrobe has black with sprinkles of color. What I do notice, now that it's summer, is that I love having bright and lively colors in my outfits, from a yellow top to a green dress. Very interesting personality traits in regards to favorite color. Fun!

  • Lina- I had to know WHY these croc stamped shoes were over $4k- so I called Barneys-spoke to the shoe dept-(he was way funny by the way)
anyway-gave him style number and he said it was a croc handbag not shoes..I'm guessing they will not be selling out of those shoes anytime soon...lol

  • yellow

  • This was fun. I’m apparently emotional and intense. I do love to paint the town red on occasion. :)

  • I like blue, green, purple & black. What does that makes me then?

  • I went straight to brown and it was spot on!
I am a totally reliable person among my friends and I do have male characteristics :)

  • B-I love that you called Barneys up to find out! Lol,I knew it wasn't the right price! Thanks :)

  • I was torn between red and purple. My eyes popped out upon reading. Yes I am an incurable romantic of a drama queen who is intense and likes the finer things in life. Creepy!!!

  • "In imperial China, no one other than the Emperor can wear purple"

    i think that was england?
I believe the emperor only wore gold silk.

  • disgusting !
pls get your facts right before posting and misleading countless others
the color that only emperors could wear, was yellow.
purple for royalty is a western notion, nothing to do with chinese emperors
