Tod's Pashmy Snakeskin Bag

If it seems I am overdosing in Tod's bags, it's because I am. So yes, I am guilty of being seduced by the elegant old world ads starring Gwyneth Paltrow; but Tod's also has, hands down, one of the strongest bag collections of the Fall 2008 season. I haven't stopped dreaming about the Dokt croc bag but have added more bags to my list including the glistening one above (the dark red is great, I'd prefer it in chocolate but it only comes in this or black right now), and no-- it's not because I blindly covet all bags scaly. It's because the bag is a perfect example of casual and simple chic.

The Pashmy is not a new shape for the House of Tod's but for Fall, it is revitalized in lux snakeskin. As we've been saying, the boho-chic hobo bag is back and Tod's combines it with impeccable detailing and butter soft skin. The handle sits on the shoulder nice and flat which allows the bag to slouch effortlessly against you without tug nor pull. And don't you love all the multi pockets hidden behind the zippers? I do! I am a packrat and always have multiple receipts lurking in my bags along with to-do lists (my brain is deteoriating so I have become a to-do list junkie so I won't forget to do important things such as pick up my son from little gym camp) and notes to myself to remind me to write my to-do lists, etc. Before I forget where I am going with this line of rambling, Pashmy bags are at Tod's Boutiques- call Justin at 214-363-6600. Adriana Castro Coco Crocodile

You are going to go nuts over Adriana Castro's croc collection. It's not that I am partial to Colombians (my husband is half) but they have the crocodiles so it makes sense that they should make the best bags at the best prices! Adriana was born on a croc farm in Colombia! Well, metaphorically, her dad owns a croc farm, I am sure she was born at a hospital. She grew up around crocodiles and has been dreaming up designs for these skins since childhood.

Biasia Cultural Event - What does your handbag say to you?

What Bags Narrate
Francesco Biasia commissioned a cultural photo and documentary exhibition to commemorate their 30th anniversary. I attended the exhibition of the documentary held at the Italian Institute of New York. It was also attended by a bunch of random ladies riddling the Q & A session with questions such as “with all the things we carry in our bags, wouldn’t it make sense to design bags with wheels on it?” Uh, yeah lady they’re called suitcases?! That aside the documentary was interesting, it studied the significance and prominence of bag usage in 5 countries, Tokyo Japan, Valledupar Colombia, Milan Italy, Namibia Africa and Teheran Iran. In an interview section at the beginning of the film, a woman was explaining why women will always need more bags. She said we live never ending lives that include differing situations which will always require different bags and the need for more bags is also rooted in our capacity to multiply. So the next time some guy asks you why you need even more bags, tell him the answer lies within your womb.

What Does Color Say About You?

lovecolor.jpg

Yellow - Poppie Couture $450; White - Oscar de la Renta Doheny Clutch, $1295; Red - Givenchy Nightingale $1695; Blue - Jimmy Choo Ramona Tote $1995; Brown - Balenciaga Lune $1995; Green - Chloe Heloise $1525; Purple - Nancy Gonzalez Croc Tote $2950; Black - Christian Louboutin Satin Bowler $1195

When you pick a color of a bag (or anything else for that matter), are you being totally objective and choosing based on aesthetics alone? Or is something else deeper lurking in that decision? I know, deep right? Bag Snob is not as shallow as you think =) We all know certain colors represent different emotions and characteristics so let's test it out and see what those are. Pick your favorite color: yellow, white, red, blue, brown, green, purple or black. Go to the jump page to see what that color says about you. Don't cheat! Pick a color first!!

Gucci Hysteria is Hysterical

guccicarpetbag2.jpgguccicarpetbagger.jpg
Who buys Gucci bags these days? Every time I walk past its boutique I laugh at the hideous bags in the windows. Sometimes, for further entertainment, I will actually walk in and watch the fashion victims who buy the bags merely for the Gucci logo and not for any real style or taste because anyone with eyes can see these bags are lacking in both departments. I guess you could argue that Gucci bags are at least predictable, you will get either the boring GG logos or bags that are just ridiculous. Like the carpet bagger inspired Hysteria Tapestry Totes above ($1,295). Gone with the Wind was one of my all time favorite movies as a kid (I had a lot of older cousins) and one of my favorite words uttered out of Scarlett O'Hara's mouth was when she told off the carpetbagging nouveau riche couple and called them "Scallowags". Which is such a perfect description of these bags! At Gucci.com, while you're there, click around and check out the entire Hysteria line with the awful Gucci crest. It's good for a Friday afternoon chuckle.

dautore_slouch_intHaven't you heard? Boho chic is back even though the dwarf twins are no longer in the news (as much). Maybe that's the reason, it's way less tiring this way. OK, so this may not be so bohemian but I am appreciating a good practical hobo, so why not add some fun and interesting details, like the ruching, patent cording swirls on the sides and knotted strap - and they do not get in the way of function but give the bag style and personality. It is also my Cheap Thrill of the week so if you are not totally convinced, at least you won't be needing to take the bus to afford it. And that brings me to the thing that makes "Cheap" the operative word here, the interior's got some funky printed lining that I do not like. Yes, it's bright and colorful but so are clowns, let's just say it is not a sign of refined style. It probably is not so bothersome if you have to just glance at it quickly but you'd be surprised how much you pay attention to the interior of a bag. That is the thing I look at first and is usually a deal breaker for me if I am not fully satisfied with its quality. Hmmm, maybe I should not have featured this bag. Oh well, too late now. Take it for what it is. Besides, there is no science to bag obsession, someone might really be digging the print.

YSL Muse Clutch in Gold Tone Zippers

museyslblacksatin.jpg
$1,995 at YSL Boutiques- Call Fatima- 310-271-4110

Perhaps you are like me, sick of looking at the same ol' same ol'... or perhaps you are new at bag collecting, and everything is new and exciting. Whatever your position, I am certain you will find this clutch fascinating. YSL has proven itself to be the best in bags yet again. While every other line is scrambling to define itself, YSL is just.... YSL. Who would have thought gold tone zippers could look so elegant, chic, and ladylike? It's one thing to have soft satin ruffles liven up a simple black clutch, but it's another altogether to trim it in punk rock zippers. I've always been a walking contradiction. All at once a rebellious child who breaks rules unapologetically and a woman who appreciates the timeless elegance of a classic. This bag fulfills all facets of me. It will work with my jeans and t-shirt or with my Oscar de la Renta cocktail dresses. Isn't that what we all look for? Something that goes with everything? At YSL Boutiques worldwide. $1,995 or Call Fatima at the Beverly Hills location 310-271-4110

Fendi Secret Code

secretcode2.jpgsecretcode.jpg
Left bag in brown watersnake: $3840 Right in leather: $2210

I can't believe I found a Fendi bag that didn't make me cringe! I was a Fendi fanatic in the late '90s thanks to the baguette but the last few years the brand has hugely disappointed me. Other than the ready to wear which I love, I generally stay away from Fendi when it comes to bags. But for Fall, the Secret Code has my attention. It's not a great bag but I do find parts of it intriguing. The handle is alien-ish modern and the stones, is that some sort of secret code from the Kaiser? Would be really cool if you had to punch in a code on the stones to make the flap open. The gold hardware actually is a bit reminiscent of YSL as is the stitching but other than that, it is a decent bag. The shape is fairly classic, perhaps this is the new baguette for the millennium, or the Wall-E age (have you seen? Love that movie!) At Neiman Marcus. What do you guys think of the Fendi Secret Code? Snob or Slob?
