I have been waiting to see a bag like this for quite sometime now, especially at this price! I know there has been a huge reader response to our “cheap thrills” posts, since $500 is (for most people, me included) not actually that cheap! Most of my friends agonize over spending anything over $50 for a bag, although we are in our early 20’s with very little or no disposable income. The Martini collection from the Magnes Sisters retail between $198- $334, which is still a stretch for me, but worth every penny! The bags come in three styles and sizes, and various color choices (including the most delicious shade of purple I have seen all season!). The Classic Martini, although very cute, is a bit small for everyday use and probably wouldn’t even fit my wallet. The Dirty Martini is a tad big and has a more mature look to it…But the Dry Martini is just right!

No brand can be perfect all the time, and we don't expect them to be. But we don't expect them to go nuts and turn out bags that make our stomachs churn, either. We have often professed our love of Miu Miu, from clothes, shoes to bags, we can't seem to get enough. Until today, that is. The nappa patchwork bags from Miu Miu look like they have a bad case of the bag shingles.
Besides the obvious (being that the bag was thrown together using left over scraps from all the actually cute Miu Miu bags), the scaly pieces of leather look scary and diseased to me. I feel like I am going to throw up now cuz I've been staring at it for so long. Must think happy bag thoughts, happy bag thoughts, on my way to airport now. Talk to you lovelies when I'm abroad. xo Miu Miu nappa patchwork bags, $1,240 at Saks.com

People often wonder why I am so violently against oversized bags for myself. Hello, I am a very petite girl and it's best to leave the big bags (fabulous or not) to those lucky 5'11" chicks with broad shoulders who can carry them off. I bought the Muse in gray blue, thinking I can rock it, just once-- a chic big bag. Only to see myself in a mirror one day at Barneys-- it was carrying me. I got rid of it immediately and consoled myself with the fact that I still get carded regularly and fit in to size 00 pants. I swore to stay away from oversized until I saw this unique and interesting bag. It's not my usual, but it's full of funky details and is so casually and effortlessly fun. It's called the Parachute bag by Henry Beguelin and it actually parachutes open to a bigger size! But that's not all that I love about it; I love the company's 20 year history (a group of friends started making hand stitched bags made with recycled material on the island of Elba) which has unwaveringly remained the same despite changing fads each season. I almost contemplated it for myself but then I saw this photo of Ashley Olsen being carried by it. Sadly, I will have to wait for the small version. Parachute bag available in Black/$1545, Brown/$1675 and Lipstick/$1300. At Henry Beguelin boutiques worldwide, jump for more photos!

A clutch by any other brand would merely be a clutch. The Medor clutch from Hermes, however, is a stunning piece of sculpted art with multiple functions to boot. I picked one up yesterday in ardoise (a beautiful shade of dark gray) with palladium collier de chien hardware and have not stopped playing with it (notice how chic it looks with the scarf as shoulder strap-- transforming it to an instant shoulder bag!) I was going to wait until I arrived in Paris (Monday!) to get it but decided to grab it now considering the weak greenback against the Euro. My Medor clutch is made of structured veau box which will age and patina beautifully, it's lined in chevre and has an interior pocket. A generous size at 11 1/4" x 6", my giant Hermes Kelly wallet ligne fits in it perfectly along with my cell and lip gloss. The hardware is actually adjustable and allows me a few more inches should I want to stuff my make up bag in there, too. I am a punk rock child of the 80's; I love the chunky stud detail and have my eye on the Collier de Chien belt in black-- which I hope to bring home from Paris among many other things. Have a lovely weekend everyone. I'll see you in Paris! (Jump for more pictures!)
