YSL “32″ Bag
By Bag Snob Tina

ysl_Ybag.jpg

Oh the line between love and hate is truly very very thin. My love for YSL just suddenly got crushed when I got a glimpse of what’s to come for Fall 2008. This “32″ bag is good practical bag, it is 12″ x 12″ and has 5 interior compartments! Great! Too bad it has been badly scarred. The “Y” design on the bag looks like branding. Yes, we know leather comes from cows but do you really need to be that obtuse about it? How terrible! It is especially odd because the 3 lines of the Y just kind of sits there randomly. Even without the scarring, the bag is a boring ole bowler style. When I said I wanted excitement, I didn’t mean the tortured kind. It is seen here with croco embossed nubuck in English Pink (ok, fine, the color is delightful) for $1995. It will also be available in black and brown super supple soft leather for $1895 and an ostrich for $5495 in a beige-y color called “Pear”. I am sure this will be a huge seller for them because of non-logo logo and because this bag is so easy to use. You will see it a few times and get used to it but keep in mind how you first felt about it when you saw it. I know I will even if they make it in some to die for color I can’t live without. Just in case though, I better make a note because I do get weak when it comes to YSL.

I totally agree with you, the color is to die for and I like the shape too but this ‘Y’ something on the front is really uncalled for. There are plenty other bags available on the market in as fabulous colors and skins so why buy this one?

I think the Y makes this bag rather awkward. Not a fan. I’ll stick w/the Muse and Marjorelle.

Well,ok I agree that the Y is quite useless, but the color and the croco embossed nubuck is very charming.Personally, I wish it would be just a bit larger and in that way a bit more informal, just how I want my bags to be. May I point out that the price is very reasonable.

I completely agree. Color is yummy, shape is blah, and the “y” branding is hideous. I am also not a fan of the croc embossing, seems a bit cheap. Not for me…

Kelly, how do you like your Marjorelle? I am still on the fence about it, although I do love the patent blue color.

A classic shape, colour and leather. But the 3 prongs? Good Morning!

The shape, however classic it may be, does remind me of the Louis Vuitton alma, no?

I think you’re right on about it being popular because of the non-logo logo trend. I like it, but I wish they had figured out a way to include the logo without it looking like something of the Double EE Cattle Ranch. I think what is hard for me is that the skin is lovely, the color is lovely, and I don’t even mind the shape. It’s just that weird branding thing. OUCH!

not in love with the bag.the color is very good, but the shape reminds me so much of the hermes bolide bag- and i will much rather buy hermes than this. also- the big y is a complete no!

Ladies, please help this gent out. What’s the difference between the branding on the Muse and this bag – is it the Muse that has the “Y” on it too? But only in a different way? So you’re still carrying around a branded bag that every trained eye can recognize. What’s the dif, a big ole “Y” is a big ole “Y” – you’re carrying a branded bag.

I did want to point out that sometimes in a picture the logo can look overwhelming and in real life it does not look as confined so in person the logo stitch may not be so bad….I know my YSL bias is showing

ManBag, good point! Maybe denial because this one is so obvious? On second look, I’m liking it more and more. The branded Y reminds me of the energy windmills in Palm Springs, a moniker a Southern California, and the dusty rose color is really striking. What I don’t like the bag NOW is how, has anyone else noticed, that it obviously mimics the shape and design of the LV Alma bag.

at least on the muse the “Y” blends in. i think the reason it looks so obvious here is because it doesn’t tie into the lines of the bag. bad design! otherwise i like it.

This is kind of horrible, but…something about this reminds me of a trilobyte or some other fossilized precambrian type bug-thing. I think the scale pattern really does it for me.

I really like the rose color but what is going on with the Y detail…. Yikes. I went to look at my Alma bags, yes, it’s like the LV Alma.

I Love the color it looks soft and chic. What I hate are is the cut outs. Can you at least use the cut outs as little bags for a cell phone or some small items??? ( ARE THE CUT OUTS POCKETS)

I hate embossed skin, why not use the real deal. Leather should look like leather, croc should look like croc..

This bag is kind of “ehh”. It is such a dull style AND color considering we are going into summer soon. The color is a little too faded for my liking. It looks like a bag that should have come out during resort season. Nothing special..It’s not a WOW bag that I would want to collect even if it is cheap.

Bonnie: Obviously you didn´t read what Kelly wrote. This bag is for fall 08 collection. I bet your worries about the color for summer wear can be wiped off.

    Julie,

I am in love with my Marjorelle and the blue patent is so perfect for me. It has been a staple since it entered my life. They are getting it in Turquoise so I am worried that I will have 2 of these soon!!

    Love,

Oh, how sad this little bag is. The “Y” reminded me of the biohazard symbol. Perhaps if you are a doctor making house calls with lots of needles or other hazardous materials . . .

Maybe I’ve watched too many CSI shows, but the first time I saw this bag it reminds me of the initial “Y” incisions done to a cadaver during an autopsy–and, incidentally, the “Y” is then restitched so that the skin puckers outward.

I am surprised nobody else mentioned that but that is what it looks like to me. [Ewwwww...] The pink doesn’t help because it gives that pinky human flesh tone to the cadaverous “Y” incision.

Is that the look that YSL was trying for? Hmmmmm…..maybe CSI should feature this bag on their next episode. That would definitely sell to the forensically-fascinated crowd.

BTW, I never paid much attention to high-fashioned handbags before I came on this blog. Now, I cannot help but make an extra trip to walk into some high department store and laugh whenever I see some of these “On the Rag” handbags in the clearance bins!

Excellent work ladies! It cheers me up that you’re cleaning the handbag environment for the rest of us. Mind you, some of these ‘uglies’ did sell quickly once the prices dropped a fair amount. I guess there is no accounting for taste.

    Keep up the good work!!!!

BTW, to complete the mental image I wrote above, the horizontal gator print on the bag reminds me of human ribs on the cadaver (with the “Y” incision).

    Definitely not a pretty sight!

I visit your site before I make any purchases. I’ve even bought a few that you didn’t like.
