Hi Girls. I fell in love today. It was love at first sight, and I know it was reciprocated. How do I know it's true love you ask? You know that warm, fuzzy feeling you get from your toes up to your ears when you see something you have been looking for your entire life? You cease to hear anything, but the loud beating of your own heart. Your hands get clammy, and your mouth goes dry. You forget you already have hundreds of other bags because, at that moment, it is the only bag in the world for you. I have admired the Ricky bag from Ralph Lauren dozens of times and do not own one, but when I saw this alligator version in perfect lipstick pink, I forgot every bag in my closet. This color is not Barbie/bubble gum pink, nor is it ballet-tutu pink; it is sophisticated, glamorous, and seductive--no one does pink like Ralph! (remember Gwyneth's pink gown?) This shade of pink is feminine, yet strong, and the boxy shape of the bag keeps it from being too girly girl. Ralph Lauren's classic Ricky bag is inspired by a vintage Cooper Saddle Carrier and handcrafted in Italy with American Alligator Mississippiensis (from TCIM--the tannery owned by Hermes) and finished with Italian hardware. The construction is meticulous, and the color is absolutely fabulous! There are only two left in the United States. They also have gorgeous wallets, belts, and clutches in the same skin if you do not want a bag. I am obsessed with Ralph's pink alligator and think every girl should have a piece of it! Gwyneth's pink gown on the night she won the Oscar was horrendous - it was dissed by every commentator, including myself. She displayed her terrible taste that night and continued it later when she wore that see-thru Calvin Klein to the Oscars. Blech!!!
But the Ricky purse is nice.

Man Bag, I thought the pink gown Gwyneth wore was beautiful. She was too thin for it, however.
Bag Snob- I am not a fan of pink bags, but this is beautiful. Bright and bold, it's unapologetically feminine and fabulous.
I love pink, everything pink. Currently I am drooling over pink Nancy Gonzalez clutches. Isn't pink exotic skin just the most perfect?!
I think the color is great. But, I must say that I think the biggest attraction to this bag, for me anyway, is that it's a Ralph Lauren reinterpretation of the Birkin. I mean, the lines, the satchel shape, the flap--it's all so similar.

yes, it resembles Birkin and to be honest I do prefer Hermes bags-remember Victoria Beckham's pink ostrich Birkin?*sigh*...
Now here is a fantastic bag. It is so harmonious,excellently made-you can see that in a second and the color is super. Lucky she who has the chance to get it.Bravo.
i love ths shape of the ricky, but i definitely prefer it in brown or black.

Mette- You are branching out of YSL! You are the toughest commentor, I have to say. :) But I agree with you, this bag is so beautiful!
And birkin is just a classic design but this has it's own equestrian and very American flavor.
This is a hot bag! Tina, I hope you are getting one. A pink color this gorgeous is hard to find.

I saw a small wallet, a long wallet/clutch and a lovely belt... there is a small bag made of the same pink alligator, forgot the name. Very adorable but this is the one I fell in love with.
beatiful bag. i got it in orange and black alligator with gold hardware and love both colors. however, since last year the bag has gone up in price considerably- from 14000 to 17000. sure am glad i got mine last year... the bag is very practical and if you get it, you will get a lot of compliments on it...
Funny, I just received my RL collection accessories book in the mail. It's all wrapped up in what is made to look like white alligator with a silver cooper clasp. Cute. Now that I've seen this I'll have to open it up and see what else they have!
The bag is great, but I just have a mental block with spending that much on any bag...I'm not sure I will ever get over that. I grew up poor, so no matter how much I get, I'll always have those hang ups!
OK, just looked through the accessories package...sorry Ralph but there is a whole lot of ugly up in there!! Tina, looks like you picked all the good stuff. This bag was 15995. There is a great pink alligator belt also at 1495.
(They also sent me a giant hardback book from the spring collection. They spend an awful lot to get me into the store, that's for sure!!)
I just stumbled over here - I do love the internet! I think the bag is swell - I would love to see it in orange as well - Ralph does such a great job with style and color - I love watching him and buying him!
Morgan: YSL definitely is my number one brand and I love just about everything they come up with. This bag could have passed as an YSL as well.Unfortunately it isn´t. I´m not afraid to spare my compliments to some other brand when needed. Wondering why they only made two for US markets,especially when the price is lower than I expected.The lucky ones who hurried may clap their hands.I´ve seen the darker versions too,but this color on this model is just which makes it so cool.

Ooooh! I love it! PJH, you are so right about the Birkin comparison! I thought the same thing as well! I'm glad to see that RL is making a strong statement in the high-end handbag market. And Simona, you were so lucky to get yours before the big mark-up! I guess RL knew they had a hit on their hands.
Also, on the pink color, Tina I am 100% with your ideas on Pink. Though I do love some things in pink, "cutsy" pink is a turn-off for me in handbags. But at least from this picture, it looks like RL hit a home run with this shade. To die for!
I am not a pink bag fan but this is stunning. The color is very grown up. Is there a leather version? The alligator is one zero too much for my budget.
Bagsnob Tina, I never was a pink fan until i had my daughter who loves everything PINK..I have several pink bags in my collection now including a PINK hermes suede..but this RICKY bag takes my breath away!!!! i have not hyper ventilated over a gorgeous bag for a LONG LONG TIME (i'm even a little jaded over my beloved HERMES:)....I hope you got one of these through your connections! I'm going to ask my hubby who travels a lot in Europe to scope this one out for me:) THIS IS A MUST BAG! hope Ralph Lauren do another collections of this...it's simply divine and i'm just in pure LUST!!!
