Marni Ruffled Heart Bag

30665_bk_l.jpg30665_fr_l.jpg
I love the whimsy of Marni as much as anyone. Those adorable kelly green patent totes? Funky and chic! The balloon bag that set off a thousand imitators? Fabulous! But this, I don't get. Inspired by Esther William's swim cap, it looks like it was made by a three year old on arts and crafts day. Seriously now, a thousand bucks for dozens of pieces of hearts made of cheap fabric stuck on a canvas bag? Charo would love it, or a 12 year old. Those of us in between should stay away unless going to a Halloween costume party. I guess some of you will argue it is artsy and could work with a simple black dress, but it is still, way overpriced and why go there at all when there are so many other great bags to be had? Marni Ruffled Hearts Bag $970 at Net a Porter. What do you guys think? Snob or Slob?

I'm sorry, but this photo is so funny and looks just like the bag! LOL--had to share!

Iagree with you- the bag is awful!!! A dress up bag for a child is more the purpose of it!! Love your comments and agree with them!

Gi:

i don't care much for the bag, but the photo? priceless!

Julie:

Definitely slob! It's just too much for anyone over age of 5. My 2.5 daughter loved it, Marni has a new audience among the nursery school set.
xoxo

Joy:

I like the bag. I don't have any children so I can't say I seen this come home as a craft project but I think it is fun and uplifting and the red is great. Such a nice change of pace from all the other bags out right now.

I don't know. But I think this bag looks very interesting!

It'll dress up an all-black outfit, jazz a T-shirt and jeans outfit and will look so gorgeous with that Oscar summer dress!

Ah well. It's does look a little odd. But sometimes, odd is good.

Jahpson:

yuck! looks like a hat my grandmother use to wear to church!

Aw, and I kinda like it. That doesn't mean I'd carry it, but. I don't know...there is something about it.

michelle:

I can't believe they made it and to add insult to injury, charge almost a grand? What are they thinking?

Janet:

Not for me. I saw this bag in the Barney's catalog . The petals look disorganized and their edges aren't hemmed so they are falling apart. Definitely not worth the money.

Interesting on first glance but would not use it for myself. I can imagine my niece adoring this bag but she is 5. It look like a craft project we would do at home on a raining day.

lulu:

I'd have to see it in person-- In the Barneys circular, it looked amazing! But here, it looks like a tacky pinata. :( And for $970-- I'd step away from it.

PJH:

It's worth it just for that pic. But, yeah, this bag is so not the hotness right now. It totally looks like a valentine's day project. I have to tell you, it's been jarring to go from the exquisiteness of the Lindy in the last post to the disposable trendiness of this one. I like Marni, but I hope they don't go the way of Dior in terms of bags.

Dolphin-chick:

It looks like something you'd find on a sale rack in WalMart. In the toy section.

Fashion-In-The-Making:

HELP HELP A CHICKEN ATTACKED MY HANDBAG!!!
I did not know that KFC designed handbags.
I like the hat better then the bag

Anonymous:

snob! a good fashionista knows how to wear this fabulously!

kamo:

i WANT that swimcap.

sass:

I'm not 5 and I think it's pretty adorable.
It's fun and lighthearted. Almost like a flower over-bloomed.
Although I'm not sure it's really very Marni nor $970-worthy. I don't love it but I wouldn't slam it either.

tantan:

I'm imagining someone take this bag walk on the street. It's must very amusing.

James:

i actually like it, but i agree that it's overpriced...

sc:

okay, even for me, i would say this bag is over the top. HOWEVER! dont laugh but I am actually planning to be in a parade this summer and in theory at least i could build a costume around this bag. seriously. dont think i will be a clown this year, though, maybe some kind of giant puppet.

Diane C:

All it needs is two big, googly eyes and VOILA...Elmo the Purse!!!
