Kara Ross Carus Bag

Kara Ross is known for her eponymous jewelry line and modern classics, like exotic clutches adorned with semiprecious jewels, but I have a feeling it's her big bags that you'll remember her for. We went to visit Kara at her showroom during the Spring '08 shows and saw the incredible new collection that I know will make a splash with bag and jewel lovers alike! As with her clutches, the bags have her distinctive "jewel" touch. My favorite from the Spring line was the double-sided python "Carus" bag. Its timeless design is offset by a funky clasp of citrine on the gold python side and rock crystal on the silver python side. The double-sided skins are great for days you don't want to change bags, but want to wear gold instead of silver accessories! Not only beautiful to look at, the Carus bag is multi-functional. Each flap opens to a front pocket, and the interior opens to a double compartment with a zippered center for ultimate organization! It was surprisingly light, and the skin was incredibly soft. Its generously sized at 12"Wx6"Hx5"D with a 9-inch chain drop ($3,135). There is also a silver anaconda version juxtaposed with punk rock black patent leather that seemed so perfect when I saw it last Fall, but now feels quite heavy. It is adorned with black onyx and hematite and would still be a beautiful evening bag, but it's the glimmering metallics that you'll want to use daily this season. At Kara Ross NY. More photos after the jump!

  • Yes you're right, the black onyx version does look heavy. Love the gold&silver versions though, personally I would use them as day bags, since I only use clutches in the evenings, they seem more graceful to me.

  • the double sides thing is interesting. so it's gold python on one side and silver on the other with different stones on the clasp? would love to see this in person! where is she sold?

  • the carus is divine! very sleek and elegant without being stodgy. i agree with you on the black one, too heavy. the leather steals from the beauty of the skin.

  • I like the double sided idea. Remember back in the day, Chanel had a double sided classic bag. So a gal gets the benefits of both gold and silver. Hm..So can I justify the bag actually cost $1567.50 each then since there are technically two looks so it's like having two bags? smile...

  • Very pretty, but looks too much like the Chanel 2.55.

  • I agree with Crystal..looks like cheap chanel knockoffs...

  • Other than the shape, it looks nothing like a Chanel bag. bags from Lanvin and Anya Hindmarch have similar shape too.
