In Love with The Lindy

The Lindy in 30cm. Call Craig at Hermes, 214-528-0197.

I have admired the Lindy bag from Hermes since it burst on the bag scene in the fall of 2006. I ordered one in pale pink last year but changed my mind and decided to wait for a brighter color, and what could be more bright and bold than the Vert Anis? A cheeky sour apple hue, it is such a wonderful shade of green! I got it in Veau Swift, which is soft, but sturdy, and the shape is so fun and youthful. I love the birkins and kellys, but have to admit they're a bit mature (not that I'll ever give them up!). The Lindy is fun and casual and not on every fashionista's radar, which is a plus for me. I am totally greedy and don't want anyone else to have my bags! Now that birkins are on the arm of every actress in town, I am moving on to the Lindy! I love that there is a shoulder strap option; many designers have convertible bags, but Hermes is the only one to get it perfectly right. When not in use, the strap hangs out of the way in the back, but is easily slipped on the shoulder within seconds! There are two outer pockets and two in the interior; no more digging in the kelly bag for keys or valet tickets! My dear friend, Florence, the Shoe Goddess apparently has the same taste as me. She got a tan one on the same day! Hopefully we're not starting a trend. It is also undervalued, compared to the birkin or kelly, but I expect that to change soon. At Hermes. (Jump to see more photos of the lovely Lindy!)
lindy1.jpg
I like the slouchy casual vibe; the Lindy is the younger hipper sibling to the birkin!
lindyopen.jpg
I leave mine unzipped because it's very easy to get in and out of that way. The outer pockets are huge and fit a blackberry, iPod, and even a paperback novel :) The interior of the Lindy is pure Hermes. It's made of the same Veau Swift (calf skin). Aren't you sick of opening beautiful bags to find the interior made of faux suede, polyester satin or (worst) tartan plaid (I opened a bag yesterday at NM and it had tartan plaid fabric as the interior!).
lindystraight.jpg
The shoulder strap is long enough for me to throw over my body as a messenger, if I need to carry my son. This will be awesome when we travel!

Florence got hers in the classic tan shade. So gorgeous!!! Check out the ShoeGodess site here!

  • Ok, be still my beating heart! My Hermes obsession has been reaching new heights lately. I'm saving up to buy my first piece, and I'm not sure if it should be the Lindy or the Bolide. I love them both so much! I love the Birkin and the Kelly, which of course are also my list of desires, but I agree with you about not wanting something everyone else has. It just makes it so much more special. And this shape is so young. I gotta tell ya that this leather looks like butter! I can feel the leather from here! :) I like the color too. All round, a perfect bag!

    Hi Tina

Sounds like you have been having a ball while Kelly is away sunning herself!!! What was your other Hermes investment?!

I have a few questions about the Lindy......what other bright colours does it come in (maybe a purple)?!

Do these bags hold the value like the Birkin and Kelly?

    Thanks for your help again!

Tina, love your pick of colors! I have been eyeing the Lindy for the past few months and cannot decide on a color. I am torn between Turquoise, Hermes Orange or classic tan. I just got a Picotine on Blue Jean, so that's out.. Any other color ideas for me?

    Enjoy your lovely purchase.

    xoxo

  • I absolutely love the Lindy, and Hermes is a brand that cannot be beat. Their signature stitching and fine leathers are far superior. I only own two birkins and two kellys, but I have been eyeing a Lindy for a while now. Red in clemence sounds tempting. Is it in as high demand as the birkin or kelly?

  • I´m sure this bag is a good investment. The quality of Hermes is excellent,no doubt about that. This bag just looks so different, that I can´t really tell if I really like it or not. If it only came in some other color than the ones mentioned...

  • I have been eyeing the bag for a while but I figure I should only buy one Hermes this year and I am looking for the Kelly Pochette. Lindy will be my goal next year then. But it's really darling when I have it in my hand at the boutique last year.

  • I think you've just started a new trend without wanting to do so!lol!
This bag is exquisite, the attention to detail, spaciousness and colors, everything screams perfection without being an 'in your face' IT bag.
Loving it! Thanks for inspiration Tina!!

  • I didn't like the Lindy when it first came out, but after a while, I have officially fallen in love with it! Have you seen the travel version?

I saw one in Rogue Vif Clemence, and it was so beautiful!!!

Love the way it's casual, yet polished.

    Congrats on your Vert Anis!

I love the Lindy! (can you tell?) It's so easy to carry and use. I think I like it better than the birkin (gasp!). It will be the birkin for the younger generation. I absolutely think the Lindy will keep its value, it will actually increase in value as it is underpriced right now.

I plan on scooping up more colors in Paris this June :)

  • tina, this is by far the most stylish and beautiful bag you have ever posted. I am 26 and would absolutely prefer this over the birkin! thank you for sharing! X

Heather- the Blue Jean sounds divine, I saw it at the boutique but already have Birkin in Blue Jean.

Lottie, I believe it does come in a purple (violine) but hard to find, like the green. I got the only Vert Anis in the United States!

Julie- if you can get it in Hermes orange, I would go for it!
    xoxo

  • I'm glad my husband brought his laptop with us to Chicago so I could read this post. I will be popping in to Hermes today to check out the lovely bag!

Tina, I was wondering and waiting for the day when you would write about the Lindy. This is fast catching up as a popular Hermes bag. I have one in Etoupe Swift coming. Hermes colours are amazing but am not a "colour" bag person so will instead do the Hermes rainbow colours in the accessories such as wallet (eyeing the Kelly Wallet in Rose Shocking chevre mysore), ulysess, card holders, coin purses, charms etc.

Vert Anis is a good choice of colour - not common and so cheery! Which size did you get, 30cm or 34cm?

    Tina --

So funny! I have a Birkin in Chartreuse so I didn't want to go for the Lindy in a green!

Hermes New York (as of yesterday -- Friday) had Lindys in rouge vif, classic orange, gold and Rose dragee.

The violine....maybe I'll tell my SA to keep an eye out for that one. It would be AMAZING!

Oh, and New York also has the Lindy in black...completely forgot about that one!

  • Tina, I am going to try for the orange Lindy. I am in love with this bag.

    Lori,
If you go to Hermes in Chicago (Oak Street) ask for Caroline. She is super nice and very helpful.

    xoxo

  • Hi Tina

I have my SA looking out for the Turquoise, I know Kelly has this in a birkin, I have the belt and it looks fantastic!!

Do you think the violine is a good colour or would you go for The Turquoise, am worried I like purple so much 'cos it seems to be so popular at the moment?!

Also which size do you think is more wearable...which did you go for?

I really don't know how I survived without your site you really are so much help, my sister and my mum are now a bit reduntant as my shopping advice partners in crime!

    Thanks again.

    Lottie,

I adore the turquoise! I would go for that. I think brighton blue or indigo would be fab, too.

So fun, to have a new addiction and obsession :) LOL xoxo

  • Great looking bag- I would have gone with the green myself.

Thanks Tina, sorry for so many questions just your knowledge is so fantastic, how do you know so much about the leathers and colours!!

Is the brighton Blue or indigo, more of an electric blue....would this look better with jeans than the turquoise??

Also what would you say is the best size to go for?

    Thanks for all your help.

Lottie, Curry (pale mustard) is a wonderful colour that works a great neutral as well. Lagon (greenish blue which has more green as compare to Turquoise) is another fab bright. Both of these colours are new for year 2008 which is also the Year of India Hermes is celebrating.

Good luck in your quest! xo

Tina, I laughed when u mentioned the tartan plaid fabric interior. I really liked this vintage bag but when i opened the bag, the interior was in this awful blue tartan! But I bought it anyway coz I figured not many ppl will be looking inside my bag:) What are your thoughts on vintage?

    Hi Lottie,

Indigo looks best with jeans, in my opinion. I hesitate to get the turquoise myself because it's so similar to the blue jean, just a shade brighter. And yes, it's fabulous with jeans.

Brighton blue is an odd blue, which I like, but indigo is fabulous (it's quite dark though, like a new pair of jeans).

I don't think you can go wrong with any of these choices! If you can get one of them, do not hesitate!

    xoxo

  • I have been a die-hard BIrkin only fan for years, but the Lindy is my current favorite. Extremely versatile and unique in its appearance. My first Lindy was in the graphite croc and I was carrying it so much I bought it in the red to go with my more casual clothes. Recently just bought a large travel size version which will be the perfect carry-on bag... you can carry it half full by the two handles or stuffed and expanded by the long strap. Looking forward to the ostrich versions.

Love it! Makes me want one! Love the shade of green!

  • what about exotics? does it come in croc?

  • I am wondering what the cost of the bag is? Thanks.

Wow, so many questions. Let me try to answer them all. If I miss one, please ask again.

First, the 30cm is around $5,600 (compared to $7,000 for a 30cm birkin) There are several sizes but this is my favorite. Most practical for daily use!

Yes, it comes in a matte crocodile, to die!

The colors Lagon and Curry to celebrate India this year are delish, I prefer the green-blue hue of Lagon over the curry though.

Vintage question- I adore vintage bags. But make sure it is in good condition and not overpriced.

    xoxo

  • The matte croc. sounds interesting, interesting would be the price too!?

  • my favorite bag! yes you're right, i love that it flies under the radar and not every fashionista has heard of the Lindy. i was surprised this weekend when someone asked me if i like mine! i have mine in the Utup gray, which is beautifully matches with any brown or black-based outfit! yay Lindy!

  • i LOVE it!!! the shoulder strap is ingenious. i wanna see it in periwinkle, bright orange, or white! the spy bag better watch its back because the lindy has arrived. PURE PERFECTION!

  • Hi Tina,

I'm also thinking of getting a lindy ...
I started a thread few days a go to help decide
    http://forum.purseblog.com/hermes/whats-your-second-best-choice-304217.html

    But still can't decide ... mmmm ...
I tried on the 34 cm in Rouge& Golden HW .. I love the size but its too wide for me ...
I'm thinking of getting the bag in a naural color like Gold
but sometimes I wonder if its better to get a flashy color

    still thinking ....

I hope you see comments on older entries...I tried to email but the note bounced back to me.

I wanted to thank/curse you for the inspiration! I just placed a special order with my S.A. for a Lindy in violine with fuschia piping! Only 9 months to wait and I'm already excited!

    Thank you!

  • I was apprehensive when my fiance bought it for me when we were in Nice for vacation because it's WHITE! But now after reading all these 'aspirations' and happy babes here, I think my present wasn't too wrong after all. Like all other mainstream fashionistas, I was looking for a birkin at first too...

  • hi tina
i strongly agree with your views regarding hermes lindy!!
after acquiring berkins and kellys for years, there is finally something new and original of a bag for me to feel excited about!! i bought myself a white veau swift 30cm lindy this year and it is indeed very functional and gorgeous at the same time. i can't wait to buy a few more to add to my collections of hermes... lindy has indeed becomed the IT bag for my cricle of friends in taipei!!!
