Stella McCartney Engraved Wood Clutch

I love Stella McCartney clothes and would like to be politically correct and support her PETA ways, but her PVC bags have lacked inspiration. And the fact that I am a red-meat eating, crocodile-skin loving, fur- wearing girl has nothing to do with my dislike of her bags! I can only imagine how difficult it is to be a card-carrying PETA member and a fashion designer, but her determination to make it work is admirable. Her latest attempt, the Cherry Wood engraved clutch, is at least interesting and in tune with fashion's current love affair with all things nature. But, as a clutch, it has little functionality. The length is fine at 12 inches and the height at
4 inches, but the depth is a mere 1 inch, which means you can only fit a few bills and credit cards in there (because we all know that wood does not stretch or give). Don't even try shoving a Blackberry or wallet in it. You'll have to leave those things at home and bring a couple of quarters for the pay phone (do they even have pay phones around anymore? I can't remember the last time I saw one). I actually think this would work better as a pencil box. What do you guys think?

  • I think absolutely nothing.

  • Cute as a pencil box or a fancy box to store toothpicks, or business cards/calling cards.

  • do not like it at all! simona

  • I do eat meat,I do carry leather handbags but I don't wear fur, as I don't like it. I really wanted to like Stella's stuff but however cool it might be to belong to this eco friendly, vegetarian, uber posh circle of her fans I simply don't like her designs enough to actually buy them. This clutch is yet another reason why I won't be stepping into her Mayfair boutique any time soon. Oh and another thing-why a UK based designer has US only online store?

  • $1000 for a pencil box? No thanks!

  • It looks like something I could pick up at the nightmarkets in Taipei for NT$ 200 = $7 USD. No love from me!

  • Eh..Pass

  • Hmmm... intersting bag but doesn't really appeal to me at all. I am still trying to come up with something nice to say. It's kinda expansive as a pencil box, no??

  • not interested at all
    995 for a wooden box

  • As I am not a designer just yet, here in Houston we cut trees for a living. That bag will look good for mulch in my orchid plant, oh wait my orchid only loves Redwood so no..

  • bags - no, but her clothes - yes.

  • I actually like it. If I could afford to spend money like it was nothing, I would buy it.

  • I agree with u. I do have shoes & bags that are made of leather & I am a red meat fan though I don't own any furs. $995 for a piece of wood is ridiculous. A soft synthetic leather clutch would be much better & would cost much less. I don't even understand why Chloe hire her in the first place.

  • it's quite unfair to judge this clutch by its impracticality; a celestina clutch though costing far more and being just as impractical was pardoned and given rave reviews last year.

  • hmmm...although the celestina clutch can contain a lipstick, keys and a credit card and is fabulous with an evening gown.

  • No wood clutch is functional. But at least the Celestina clutch is beautiful to look at.

  • This clutch would make a very pretty case for my eye glasses, but I would price it around $50 at the most. Even if it is handmade, the quality cannot be _that_ much better than a wooden box from elsewhere.
