Dilemma Solved

Remember my bag dilemma last month? I could not decide between two amazingly chic and timeless bags, the Hermes Ostrich Birkin and Oscar de la Renta Alligator Alden, so I did what any girl would do in the same situation. I took both! They are completely different styles and so very unique in their own way that I felt it too difficult to choose between the two. Along with my YSL Muse in Gray blue, this it for my Spring bag purchases. Hopefully I won't cave in to another bag urge but one of the drawbacks of running a bag blog is that I am tempted, every hour of every day. It takes a will of iron to refrain from buying all the delectable bags I review (one I obviously lack but I am trying!). The Hermes Ostrich birkin in its signature orange and palladium hardware is sizzling hot, bright and cheery, just what I need to get ready for sunshine! Oscar de la Renta's Alden bag made of American Alligator Mississippiensis (the best in the world, also used by Hermes) is nothing short of absolute perfection. The scales are immaculate and the bag is full of gorgeous details like the tortoise shell frame and magnetic flap which allows me instant access to my wallet. The front pocket also give the bag a youthful vibe. I have not let these bags out of my sight since I got them, can you blame me? At Hermes and Oscar de la Renta boutiques. Or See Oscar De La Renta at NET-A-PORTER

Call Mindy at 214-346-0400 to inquire about the Alden in Alligator. They were made in limited edition so get your hands on one quickly! The bag is around 14" wide on bottom and again, the blue alligator is spectacular!

  • Gorgeous bags! I know what you mean by trying to call it quits for the season (or year) on buying. I just bought my first Birkin -preowned, was all I could (barely) afford, so I told myself, that;s it! No more! I'm done!

    We'll see...

  • tina! that bag is gorgeous and that orange is just beautiful! how much would that bag cost me?

    you have great taste.

why dont you take me shopping and buy me a bag? LOL kiddin

  • love, love, love both of em!!!

  • The Orange Hermes is gorgeous! I can't blame you for picking both. I would too!

  • What a way to get a Friday morning going! Both of these bags are exquisite!

  • I too like all 3 bags, but how on earth can you afford all these super bags?I too love bags and I think that a beautiful bag makes you very confident and I intend to save my treasures for my girls when the time comes. I happen to love diamonds and pearls too and I guess I have an expensive taste on them.BTW I´m really interested in interior decorating as well. Life is tough lots of times.

I love it ! Go Tina! I had a strong feeling that BOTH! were on the menu :) . I just ordered a new bag (from a non mainstream brand i won't mention)but if you know 'Pam' you know what brand I am talking about. It's the first time I have ever paid over 100k for a handbag. BUT its so worth it and I can't wait to get it! . And if I hate it (design wise) , its all my fault because I picked out all the pcs. I will send pictures when it arrives.

  • Hi Tina, Enjoy the gorgeous bags...did you get the ostrich in 30 or 35? I love love orange and have one in epsom and am waiting for either a fusia or red ostrich birkin (but am debating on 30 or 35).

  • Help! I'm in a dilemma too (though not caught between the lovely Birkin and the classy Oscar de la Renta!).

It's the new restyled Tods D Bag Tote, the longish one, in matt cream with silver hardware. OR the Tods T Bag (the one with three zipper pouches in front) also in matt cream with silver hardware.

I actually already have a T Bag in black with gold hardware. Which I adore cos it takes me from the beach to the boardroom, either in jeans and tee, or in a suit for work. But is it quite silly to have another bag in the same colour, though the cream one is little bit bigger? I quite like the D Bag Tote except that I'm concerned that it looks big, and can look a tad too casual if I pair it with a suit?

With a limited budget for bags, I do want to stretch my dollar a bit! So, will really really appreciate your advice. I did already buy the D Bag Tote, thinking that hey with a limited budget I should spread the styles I have a bit, but am now having second thoughts. Help help help! The SA told me I can go back within the next couple of days if I change my mind....

    :) Thanks much!

  • what treasures you have! you do have impeccable taste! I am glad you took both. now, my dilemma is the Muse in gray blue or the marjorelle?

Gorgeous...wow. Same dilemma. Only one bag this season though. I am imposing a moratorium on my silly spending. An 8 and 10 year old headed for college is a reality check on the 3k bag habit!! I'm not sad, just nervous about staying "clean." :) Any suggestions on the one bag are welcome.

Stop worrying about how Tina affords her bags, couture, etc. I've seen it commmented on several times under other blog entries of hers, and everytime it makes me cringe! Do I really have to point out that it is rude to inquire upon how someone makes their money? Obviously I do!

Congratulations on your orange bag. I myself was at Hermes today looking at the leather book. I immediately fell in love with the orange ostrich when I saw it. I placed an SO for a 28 Sellier Kelly in it, hopefully it will come in some time next year (send me some good vibes, please).

Hey Trish ! get the D bag in the matte creme. Beautiful ,you can't go wrong with a Tods. :)

  • Tina,
These bags are stunning, you have fabulous taste.
Hermes is impossible to leave empty handed. I picked up a Blue Jean Picotin as my run around small bag and got the Kelly wallet (in black) and pink lizard sandals. All in 15 minutes...
Still waiting for my Birkin, should be in by early fall. I got the black togo with palladium. I am thinking of the Etoupe or orange one next...
    Enjoy your beautiful bags!

    xo Julie

  • love love love the bag! You are my inspiration Bag Snob Tina!

Ps. I agree with Alison, can everyone stop worrying about how Bag Snob Tina affords her bags, suffice to say she can, end of story!

Wow, I love coming home to all these comments! We are our own little cult of the bag obsessed :)

Now, let me address the bag dilemma questions.

    1. Ping- I prefer the 30cm and have talked most of my friends into it as well. It's just the most practical one (the 35cm is quite large and heavy and better for travel, not daily use.)

    2. Trish- absolutely the D bag in matte cream. It's classic yet stylish, plus I fear you will tire of the multi zippered pockets on the T bag!

    3. Melissa- tell me about your daily life and needs so I can help you choose a bag for the year :)

    4. Julie- love the picotin! I got the pink lizard H sandals too!!!

    5. Bianca- good Hermes vibe sent to you!

Alison, Miffy and everyone- thanks for the love :) Good night!

Tina these bags are both so beautiful! I particularly love the Oscar-its so classic yet unique!

  • aww, good girl,I would also get both of them;)
I just got back from Paris and I still can't get over the fact that French girls are the most stylish in the world, seriously!
P.S I recommend every girl to watch 'Hors de prix'
    with Audrey Tautou-english translation 'Priceless'
the amount of Hermes and Chanel stuff in this movie is so heart warming:D

Can you tell me the designer of the purple crocodile heels Irene wears in "Priceless?"
I love them and cannot identify them!

  • Hermes will ALWAYS be the top of the league!

    Love this unusual orange ostrich!

Lina I agree!about the French girls, But I must say that us NYC'ers are not to far behind. And its a toss up between Dallas&Houston for the third spot. I have a few new friends from those places
( Dallas&Houston) and the TEXAS ladies have true style indeed. More in your face kinda style. But I love it! :)

All fans from the US should mark their calendars on March 28, 2008 - it’s the release date of “Priceless” 'Hors de prix'(not April 5, as previously announced).

    Tina,

Thanks for the help. I am a single mom, 2 kids-boys. They are big enough that I don't carry their toys and necessities anymore. Which is a big help. I live in the burbs and commute to NYC every morning. I carry books, papers etc along with my wallet and ipod and various phones for work. (I have a fendi shopper like the one in their ads here on your site, with the blue pallazzo printed on the sides, but mine is brown with blue. i use it to carry my papers and books, and a handbag in addition to it. I go to the mall or on the weekends, I just carry the handbag. In general I don't like printed logos tho. THis one was fun and useful so I made an exception.)

I'm not careful, and I don't "store" bags in bags and take great care and all, so keep that in mind. It gets beat around a little and that is my life:)

What I already have that i use: a natural color python shoulder bag from RL, matching shoes, couldn't resist last spring. I have a chloe pad shopper, which is so heavy for spring, so no go there.

I also have a great jennifer scott cordovan bag with an s&m kind of buckle theme going. And a b and d with all the studs (garbo) in brown. Also a black patent RL panama bag. And a brown crocodile handbag which I love and use a lot.

A red Luella susie too. I got rid of about 30 handbags and pared down to the basics bc my closet was getting too full. Which left me with just these. (A few others not really worth mentioning.)

I have all sorts of great clutches, so nothing is needed there.

There are just SO many great bags out there I cant focus on just one and am afraid I will fall off the wagon and come home with bags full of bags!! Especially since I am down to just a dozen or so bags left in my closet.

I thought the muse 2 was great, but will it last? Will it work for me? NM and Saks don't have it in yet to look at.

Last requirement, under $2k or so. I am trying to be so good...it's so hard!!

    Thanks for any input!!

Just checked again, I also have whisky silverado and a tan carlos falchi with fringe, hobo shaped and a brass chain strap (ouch). Also a miu miu in black with brass studs and pockets on the front, almost a frame, but no frame, with about an 8 inch handle drop.

Mostly I revolve between the 2 RLs and the croc, the miu miu and the jennifer scott.

My wardrobe is mostly RL collection (purple label) so you know what I am working with there.

Congrats on the Orange ostrich Birkin, Tina!!! Gotta love the birdie in colours. Am wishing for one in Fuchsia! *swoon*. Agree that the 30cm is better than 35cm - although I wish H would do Birkins in 32cm - the best width IMO.

  • you bought the Oscar and the Hermes in the same color?

  • the original HAC birkin comes in 32cm. sc, she got the Hermes in orange ostrich and the Oscar in blue alligator.

  • great bags! i own a hot pink 35 birkin in ostrich and just love bright colors for the spring season. oscar bag is stunning as well!

Beautiful Bags, now I know my next Birkin will be orange,
it will work color wise with just about everything. Congrats!

  • I will take the blue Alden anyday. It's so beautiful!

  • I love the birkin in orange.... it's such a beautiful color. I agree with Tina about the 35 cm birkin. Once it's filled, it's really heavy. I know people with the 25 and 30, I thought they are just perfect, esp 30 cm.

ps. one side benefit of the JPG Birkin, a gal can get beautiful arms toting the little darling around town.
