I have a special place in my heart for anything Balenciaga, but as much as I loved the City "Le Dix" Motorcycle bag almost 10 years ago (yes, I had the original "it" bag in two colors when Nicole, Lindsay and Mischa were 12 years old, still wearing braces and dreaming of Ricky Martin), they've been lovingly stored in the back of my bag closet for years and probably won't see the light of day any time soon. No matter how commercial or over exposed by annoying young stars though, Nicolas Ghesquiere remains the coolest kid on the designing block. And even if I don't write about Balenciaga bags much anymore, I keep track of Ghesquiere and buy dresses and jackets from the line each season. I was browsing around the other day and came upon the Cherche Midi, possibly the best of Balenciaga's spring bag line. Its modern square shape with chunky industrial chains is an urban fashionista's dream and the multi dimensional effect created by the contrasting colors on the exterior pocket flap and strap is quite eye catching. The chain is adjustable and removeable, which means you can use the bag as a clutch, how fabulous right? I love the fresh green shade that Balenciaga does so well each year but this is the first time I've liked the bag it's on. I think this is a bag even Carine Roitfeld (who has told me she does not care much for bags) would approve of. And at $2300 it is fairly well priced considering all the details on this edgy bag. This color is really nice. I also have the original motorcycle bag. I purchased it at a little boutique before it was an it bag. I didn't realize that was 10 years ago wow! I like this style of this new bag also.
I recall it being around 1999, which would be almost ten years ago! I bought mine in Paris one summer. It was way before Americans had Balenciaga on their radar (Nicolas Ghesquiere joined the House in 1997). That original motorcycle bag is insane! It's of way better quality than the ones out now for some reason. The leather is seriously like buttah!
xo
this bag is sick! I must have it. do you think Barneys will have it?
I bought my motorcycle bag in Rome in 2000. It was the first trip my husband and I took together when we just started dating. So you can imagine how much I love the original bag. I totally agree, the leather is quite different now....
This bag is quite edgy and urban! Not for my collection, but love it anyway.
I think where this bag really works is the industrial use of velvet. It's not as bag with romantic lines or shapes. It's a good square shape with a chain that almost suggests s&m. As a clutch, I think it fulfills the cumbersome-clutch trend of the season, while still being great. I like any bag now that doesn't have the logo on it and isn't spangled with a million different things. There is enough statement in the materials and construction of this bag to make it more interesting than it-eresting. Did I just make up a word?
The front of this bag is overdesigned, but the green is very very pretty and I can appreciate the intricacy of the handles.
It might seem overdesigned if you look at it for a long time but I think it still manages to look rather casual and fun. That green color is amazing,on the verge of cool and elegant. What a stunning bag!
seriously considering getting this. do u know where i can find more pictures (ie, of the inside) to look at before i get it?
I like the shape, but I have a strong aversion to two-tone bags.
Love the green chains
I don't mind the two tone. The chain is what does it for me though. It is a unique look with the interlinking straps.
Balenciaga is selling online!!!
My husband just gave this to me as a birthday gift. He chooses great bags. I must admit, it's not a bag I would have picked out for myself, but the more i use it, the more I love it. I love the 3 different compartments and the chain strap. The green links, however, are plastic and I would have liked to see them made out of a different material.
The green leather is such a nice, rich color. Great bag! My new favorite.
