Couture Snob: The Row

Tina in Oscar de la Renta/Ashley in The Row

I attended a party for Ashley Olsen last week where she debuted the Fall collection of The Row, the ready to wear line she launched with twin Mary Kate last year. At the party, I introduced myself and was surprised at how open and friendly she was. We discussed her line and other fashion issues and she could not have been more sincere and warm. There were no false airs nor haughtiness from this adorable actress/mogul/fashion designer! After meeting her, I now understand her popularity and endurance in an industry that most do not last a few years in let alone a lifetime.

olsentherow.jpgThe Row is full of simple basics that every girl needs in her closet. Ashley said her idea was to create simple basics to mix and match with high end designer lines or to wear alone. I love that idea! I hate wearing the same designer from head to toe and always mix my Balenciaga and Chanel jackets with J. Brand jeans or leather pants and now I can incorporate pieces from The Row into my repertoire! There were so many things I wanted, a pair of slim cut Leather leggings cut with a patch on the back to give the bum a bit of lift, a reversible shearling coat (I tried it on and Ashley said I must get it, it was hot!), a bustier top and a slim cut skirt. Ashley herself was rockin’ a simple cashmere sweater and leather leggings from The Row with a pair of sky high platform Balenciaga boots that I wanted to steal from her. You must check out The Row at Barneys New York, Bergdorf Goodman or at 4510 if you live in Dallas. Call Helen at 214-559-4510 to order!

I always wondered what they’re both like in real life, they always seem so miserable and the clothes they wear look so ‘goth’ sometimes.

It’s amazing what they’ve achieved,I can’t come up with anyone else who managed a career since being a toddler all the way to adolescence!

It’s nice to know they keep their feet firmly on the ground-mind you, that’s probably the key to their success!

    P.S Tina,you look fabulous Dahling! ;)

    Hi Lina,

I think Ashley and MK look miserable in photos because they are always hounded by paparazzi! She couldn’t be more bubbly and friendly in person. I adore her!

My assistant brought her 16 year old sister who accidentally deleted her photo with Ashley on the way home. She came back to the party and I told Ashley what happened and she was so nice to the young girl, not only did she take another photo with her, she told her to make sure the photo came out okay before leaving and to be careful not to delete it again. Now that’s a star who knows where her bread and butter comes from!

Christy- the line is priced fairly well. Most pieces are in the $350-$800 range. The leather leggings are $1100 and the reversible shearling I tried on is $3400 but those are the higher end pieces.

Kamo- I am only 5′ tall (like her twin Mary Kate)- Ashley is around 5′ 1″, 5″ 2″. My tiny size always make people think I am younger than I am :)

    xoxo

Tina I heart you !! and I heart Ashley, and i heart the row LOLOL. My Bff is a super fan of the Row items, so when Browns in London got items in stock early on , we grabbed up as much as we could get our lil manicured fingers on :) .The great thing is that they fit tiny gals at 5′ and tall and tiny gals like me 5’10 . :) . I wish Ashley the best. What a great future she has in fashion..

I wish I could see the leather leggings up close. I’m going to have to pay a visit to Barneys, cause they sound interesting, chic, and cool!!! Hope you got that coat!

all I am going to say is yeah everyone wants to be fashion designers, I am just going to keep my bad opinion to myself. Tina your very STYLISH, it looks like your the designer and Ashley is a homeless person your going to give free clothes too.

FYI the leather leggings should be priced higher than $1,100 because they go with everything! so nice.

I love your couture entries. I buy clothes more than I do bags. She is a doll, I have a couple of pieces from The Row this season, they fit well and are well priced. I think the bustier top is $700.

I’ve been eyeing this clothing line since I heard about it a long time ago and I’m in love! As a fan of Ashley and Mary-Kate, it’s nice to know that they’re really nice. People always make fun of their style, but they really are at the forefront, some people end up copying them eventually. The picture of you two looks fabulous! I love both outfits.

Sorry, she may be a nice person but I wouldn’t buy her clothes. I just think of the crazy little baby on full house and what about those god awful videos? Okay, I confess, was a fan years ago and watched them all.
