R&Y Augousti Python Hobo

What is up with python this week you ask? Well, that is what they are selling these days and we have no control over it but I have to say, it is amazing!! R&Y Augousti is known for their exotic and unusual use of materials - they are not afraid of the wrath of PETA! I used to have a hard time with snake that looks like snake but you have to try it on with your clothes and you will see how beautiful it is and not scary at all. The varying shades and gradation of natural python matches with practically everything. What else would you be able to wear with white, brown, black AND all other colors? Can you imagine how amazing this will look with something blue? I just listed all the colors of my closet but as you can see, this will go with any wardrobe. The clean shape with patched corners is impeccably stylish and uncluttered for the perfect all around bag. The hardware is reminiscent of the YSL muse hardware but I don't mind, the rest of the bag looks nothing like YSL. The slightly padded strap in leather makes this super comfortable so that you can and will use it everyday. $1840 at Barneys New York.

5 Bags Under $500 - Spring 2008

For our frugal Bag Snobs and Snobs in training- here is my "Must have" Cheap Thrill bags for Spring 2008. I really think you should try something different and go for a designer that is not on the arm of every mall rat in America (actually, I beg you, please leave the Juicys and Coaches to the fashion illiterate!).

The Mini tote from uber cool French designer Stephane Verdino is edgy and glamorous without the hefty price tag. At 12"x11" it will make a great daily or travel bag this season. Toss in your sunscreen, a bikini and a copy of the hilarious "Celebutantes" (a must read this summer!) and you'll be ready to rock the shores of St. Tropez. Stephane Verdino tote- $315 at Saks.com, in black, white, bronze or gunmetal.

Lanvin Odette Python

I can't seem to get enough of the color blue lately (or python for that matter!). I found myself mesmerized by the Lanvin Odette bag in blue python and then looked down at the two bags next to my desk that I've been using all weekend- a blue birkin and the new blue Oscar crocodile Alden. Uh, clearly I am overdosing on this fabulous shade but can you blame me? Blue is my black during the summer, it goes with everything and brings excitement even if I wear the dullest summer uniform of t shirt and jeans. Like I said last week, I am lusting for all the Lanvin bags this season but this is probably my favorite! The Odette has a unique clasp that slides to the left to open that reminded me of the doors on Deloreans- I know, such a minute detail but so important to people like me! There are two small studs in front and bottom of bag with a flat frame on top (so it won't droop!) that bring an urban feel to the classic chain bag shape, other than that, the bag is pure luscious python. $3,095 at Barneys New York- call Greg 469.221.4700

Marni Paper Thin Balloon, Perfect for Work and Play

Hi Bag Snobs,

I'd like to take this opportunity to say that your blog is fantastic! I didn't know a whole lot about bags before, but your site gives me a great starting point. I mean, you do most of the work for us. What's left is simply to decide: 1. Does it suit our own particular lifestyles and needs? and 2. Can we afford it? The latter, I am still working on!

My query is not a new one: I need a work/school bag. Something nice, chic, funky but classic, young and yet professional. I carry around folders and books and am tired of having to lug two bags - one practical (sack) and a nice handbag. I loved the chocolate colored Marc Jacobs Dr Q Delancy that was recommended a few years back. Alas I live in Australia, and well, access is somewhat limited. Can you offer some suggestions for 2008. And if possible, any websites that actually ship to Australia (that won't charge an arm and a leg!)?

Many thanks,

Linda A

Pauric Sweeney Sports Carryall

I really need a gym bag, I have been just throwing stuff in whatever bag I am using and it has got to stop. In my search I came upon this fabulous sports bag from one of my favorites, Pauric Sweeney. The overnighter wasn't right as a gym bag but this is absolutely perfect! I love the hearty straps and the giant exterior pocket. Yes, it is python so not exactly impervious to water (and sweat, yuck!) but I am careful and don't sweat that much. I mean, I can't keep walking in to Equinox looking like an uncommitted fitness fiend. This is also great for travel and can easily be appropriate for a man so my husband doesn't have to have that embarrassed look on his face when carrying my bag (it's obvious when he's carrying my Chanel or Birkin that it belongs to his wife but this would be borderline and he does not have what it takes to carry off a true man bag). It is so fabulous that exotics are being made in every kind of bag but nothing is as snobbish as a python gym bag, that in itself requires that I have it =) At Luxcouture for $2800.

Burberry Warrior Bag

I grew up with lots of brothers and male cousins, which means I know almost every warrior game out there. At the risk of sounding like a computer nerd (and ruining my glamorous Bag Snob image), I have to admit I am an expert and Grandmaster (game lingo) at Ultima Online, War Craft, Age of Empires I & II (plus the Age of Kings) and many others (guys are always in awe of my ability to kick up a game of AOE as skillfully as I can through the aisles of Neiman Marcus). I even beat Kelly's husband (our tech nerdie) at some of these games! But no matter how many GrandMaster warriors I master, I would never, ever, buy myself the Burberry warrior bag (see above). You see, a woman wants to look beautiful no matter how good she is at beating men at their games. Plus we do not feel the need to wear all of our medals on display. Now men, they will wear every single medal they've ever won (even from Boy Scout days) on their suits or uniforms whenever they can. Which makes me think the Warrior Bag from Burberry is really made for guys because what woman would want to be seen in this mess? Burberry Metal Studs Warrior bag$3,195 at Net a porter.
