UPDATE: The Prada Fairies Bag by James Jean will be available in wristlets and clutches soon! Stay tuned and check back often for details!

This is not my usual classic but I am completely enchanted by the "Fairy Bag" from Prada. The artwork on the bag reminds me of Japanese Anime, which I was fascinated with as a child and even devoted years to drawing it myself. In fact, I have drawings that look very similar to this that I did in college! Miuccia Prada has always designed to the beat of her own creativity and it is what we love about her. We may not always like her bags but they always provoke and stimulate. Unlike certain editorial pieces (Louis Vuitton and Fendi patchwork anyone?) that aim to shock and are hideous, this to me is a beautiful piece of art, art that is meant to be carried and treasured. It will take a very edgy and independent personality to carry this bag off, and one who still believes in the magic of fairies. Do you still believe in fairies? If you do, call Prada boutique 212-308-2332 and ask for Hope (as a side note, Hope is 34, gorgeous and looking for a husband :) - she just received a delivery yesterday so grab this collector's item quickly. $2290 in Prada's signature grainy calf leather in white. View more photos of the Fairy bag designed by James Jean!

There are two fairies on the back.

Strangely this bag appeals to me too. Somehow it is so different from what Prada including the others have presented. I think that it´s a good Idea that the price is on that level. I wouldn´t want to forecast future, but it´s just a question of moments, when will see lookalike bags everywhere. That´s how it goes.

Mette- unfortunately you are right. Knock offs will start appearing on the streets before long. Sigh.......
I don't think I would carry this bag daily, but it is something I would want in my collection as a bag collector. To look at and admire, maybe even put in glass case as art in my office.

Two hours ago I had this bag in my hands at the Prada boutique on Rue Faubourg St. Honore. It is probably made of the softest leather I have ever felt. The design's colors are more vibrant than your picture represents. It is truly a work of art and should be worn with a very neutral outfit to show it off. Also beautiful and high art, are the shoes from Prada's Spring/Summer collection. Just amazing.

this is by far the most unique and beautiful bag I have seen in years.
and 2000 is what you would pay for a plain bag without the gorgeous art work

I adore this bag, but I adore the artist even more. Two artists were commissioned from Prada to do the illustrations for this season's looks. The one who did the illustration on this bag is the eloquent James Jean.

The website has the entire illustration on it for those interested.

I liked the conte de fees (fairy tale) Vuitton did in 2001 with Julie Verhoeven, but yes, the current Vuitton patchwork that Beyonce wore is hideous.

I love the dreamy, fluid, scrolly artwork . Not sure I'd be happy with it on a handbag, but I could see Dries van Noten, for example, doing wonders with it as a billowy skirt or scarf.

when i first looked at it, it reminded me of tatoo art... then i remembered that it is on *leather* so in a way it is a tatoo. strange.
btw, nice registered mark ladies, i just noticed that. will we have to start referring to you as the bagsnobs®?

kamo- you always bring a fresh perspective :)
And thank you, the registered trademark was long overdue. Our attorney had been reminding us to do it for months and we finally did.
So let this serve as public notice, any use of the word Bag Snob, The Bag Snob, Bag Snobs, and The Bag Snobs in online publishing or traditional media without our prior consent will result in the wrath of our brilliant attorney. Trust me, I would not want to mess with her :)

oh man, this KILLS me! i remember seeing artwork by James Jean about 5 years ago, he was well known in the underground art scene---now he's doing prada? i have mixed feelings about the "selling out" and at the same time, allowing the masses know more about him...
*grr* should have invested in his pieces!!

Stunning.
Personally, I don't agree that it is 'selling out' to let one's artwork be displayed on clothing and accessories; what better canvas is there, than one that is completely portable?
Also, 'the masses' are people, too, you know!

I love this bag! It's been a long time since I saw a bag that left me completely mesmerised...(small white lie, I recently purchased a purple lizard Hermes pochette - that one left me salivating all the way to the till!). I adore fairies and the bag looks simply enchanted!

this is a lovely bag, one that I would love to carry for years, and you can team it with so many looks - the dreamy flower child, the elegant yet quirky executive, the dramatic diva...

I actually called all around the country (literally) to all the prada stores and got one!!!! I purchased the medium size which is quite large 15 w by 11 high by 6 wide. it is one of the most gorgeous bags I have ever owned and i am not a huge prada fan. any description of this bag or pics barely do it justice. sumptuous!! the interior is lined with the most elegant burgundy calfskin you have ever seen or touched. I put myself on at least 4 waiting lists at prada ny, la , las vegas etal. the key is to give them your credit card and fill out the paper with the signature confirmation as you are being put on the list and tell them to just send it and bill you. if not , the will call you and if you dont call back in 2 seconds its sold to someone else. the nicest people to deal with were in the ny store!! really a classic !!!!
