Louis Vuitton Olympe Nimbus GM

I saw a Louis Vuitton bag today that didn't make me cringe, in fact, it was really cute! One of my book club girlfriends got a shimmering pearl gray Olympe Nimbus bag for Christmas and though I have seen it in print and on other sites all season I really did not give it much thought because you all know I am not a LV fan. In person, however, the bag is truly adorable. Soft and plushy , it is lightweight and curved so it fits perfectly against the body. The shoulder strap had seemed bulky to me in photos but it is actually flat on the bottom so it hangs on your shoulder securely without any slip and slide annoyance! The logos are not prominent and being ruched, you can't even tell it says LV unless you are a die hard trendoid fashionista that can spot and name a Louis Vuitton bag from a mile away. Even the subtle ruffles are girly and fun, not obnoxious at all. There is also the PM (petite size around 12") if you are not into giant bags as the GM is 19.7".

I can't believe I am actually gushing about a Louis Vuittong bag... And before you rag on it, go hug it at a Louis Vuitton boutique- one stroke of the the buttery soft leather and you will want to adopt it too. $2,550 Louis Vuitton available online at eLUXURY.com

As a side note, my book club should really be renamed the "Bag" club. I think we spent all of 5 minutes discussing the book of the month (Ken Follet's Pillars of the Earth) and what was said was "Who knew it was 900 pages?" "It's full of really difficult words you know." "We're going to need a dictionary to finish the book." "It may take all year." "That is if we are smart enough to actually finish." After that, most of our lunch was devoted to the groovy bags everyone had. Let's see, Christine is the lucky girl with the LV Olympe above, Julie carried a lovely turquoise Hermes Kelly in 25cm, Kim (a total Bag Snob herself) toted a new 25cm Hermes birkin in etoupe lizard (can you say jealous!?!?), sweet Janet sported a monogrammed Goyard and I can not remember what Robin had but I am sure it was Chanel and fabulous.

i can't believe you gushed about an LV bag :D
but you are right the leather is buttery soft.
what can you say about their new mahina line?

  • Well, I didn´t get interested in this bag at all. There are so few occasions I could picture it fitting in. The label on the right corner shows pretty well, and in a not nice way. Girly and giggles, that´s how it looks to me.

You didn't say what you were carrying?!

  • I saw this at Saks about a month ago, and for a LV bag is was alot nicer than usual. It was very soft and would look very nice with jeans.

  • OMG What a fabulous bag. When you hold it i swear it melts in your hands.

MY louis phase has come and gone. High School was all about LV. But now the Vuitton can't get a 2nd look. Too many other great bags to choose from. Maybe next decade .

  • i have to admit that I do like this bag, but I think I saw a Balenciaga (at Neimans around September) with a similar shape and shoulder strap that I liked better and it was slightly cheaper (approx. $500).

  • I love this bag, I saw it as the L.V store in Banff and it's the only L.V bag I have wanted with such a passion!!! I don't think I'll be getting it though :(

  • Hideous Bag!...maybe its because I hate ruching on handbags and apparel.

  • It looks like a giant silver tumor with a handle.
Still a lot nicer than the R. Prince crap.

  • I sure hope this bag looks and feels better in person than it does in a picture. Sorry, but to me it looks like crinkled up tinfoil with a stick of gum caught on the bottom.

  • I have this bag- the smaller nimbus and I love it. I purchased it in September and I used it all season. It's suprising roomy and the color is beautiful. As for the Mahina XL bag they are difficult to get right now as there are none in the company. There are only a few grey which look off white. Anyway, I love my black XL but it is definitely a fall winter bag and it is really big.

this is a beautiful bag and you really do not notice the lv's . Im not a big label person either. a friend purchased the large darker grey colour and it is soft and plush. The problem I have with this bag is the plastic loops that connect the handles to the bag vs brass which i think is pretty cheap looking for a 2500. bag and the interior is fabric lined. for 2200 you can purchase the large prada fairy bag where you can see the detail and care put in to make it a 2000. bag. the plastic tag on the front bottom saying louis vuitton is pretty prominent and cheap looking as well.
