Gucci Joy Boston Bag

I can see people getting excited about this bag. The Gucci boston is so popular and there are those who like to buy the same thing in different variations. Well, this certainly is different. With all the origami appliques stars and flowers, you can say this is equipped with plenty of bells and whistles. Just don't wear this with a loose knit sweater, you'll be like that Weezer song. But there is no excuse to ever use a bag that lacks in style to this degree of crudeness. I feel like Gucci has lost its appeal but then I look around and I see people in love with their GG logo bags and I am angry that I can be so wrong. To me, Gucci is very 80's, the bad 80's. And hello, can they please come up with something else other than the bamboo handles? But again, I must be wrong because I pass by a Gucci boutique and people are oohing and ahhing over them. A really good friend of mine recently bought a Gucci with the bamboo handle, she was so excited she drove all the way to my house to show me. I had to feign excitement but inside my head I was screaming, "WHY WHY WHY????" To my dismay, they did come up with something other than bamboo handles and GG logo, this thing. The Gucci Joy Boston Bag for $1950.

  • Kelly, you are so right about this bag. I would not recognize this bag to be a Gucci. I can´t imagine where, when and how you could wear this bag. And the price for a piece like this has lots of air under and above it.

  • An origami pattern could have worked - COULD have.

  • Yet another designer bag that looks like a child's craft project.

I just cannot wrap my head (or my cash for that matter), around this bag. It looks like a kid's luggage piece. The price is quite a lot for it too, since there doesn't really seem to be anything truly "different" other than the splattering of leather (or a material I can't make out)flower decals and such.

No thanks, I'll wait for something more appealing to come my way.

Okay, I'll admit that I still love Gucci. Granted, you'll see me more often with my Miu Miu or Chanel bags, but I still love it. And I thought I loved this bag, until I realized it was all the trim on top of the white GG logo. Gross.

I have one GG bag that I got for a steal, and I only use it when I'm traveling since it makes the perfect carry-on tote for all of my magazines, ipod, etc.

  • I love this bag! If you love purses as much as I do check out artfulwears.com for great stuff at half the price.

Gucci hasn't been the same since Tom left. The revolving door of designers simply hasn't got "it". Until the get a designer of his vision, it will still be oh, just Gucci......

I despise anything with monogram too.. but this is a refreshing change to the standard boston bag.

  • I don't really like Gucci. I don't like the monogram. Plus here, in Singapore, every other person carries a Gucci or LV, until you can't recognise whether the bag is authentic or not.

I much rather prefer Chanel, Prada or Loewe.

  • it's okay...for gucci...i guess. i've resorted to using my canvas gucci tote as an eco-friendly grocery bag. and i'm 21, so i can't imagine what the more mature bag snobs must think about the brand!

I too love Gucci but I do not get this bag. I long for the days where Gucci and Louis Vuitton leaned more toward the classic high end look. This looks like something from Target.

I have been lucky enough to get a boston bag as a gift, it is the babouska medium, the one Rhianna was seen carrying in early September. I would like to know a bit about it being a newcomer to Gucci bags. Was it a limted edition? What was the price in english pounds and was it only available through Gucci? Thanks.
