Top Ten Bag Trends of 2007 – A Year in Review
By Bag Snob Tina on December 28, 2007 6:00 pm Tina Craig

1. Shade of Gray

Gray was the new Black of 2007! The YSL Uptown was our favorite bag this year and in gray, it tops our list as the ultimate for 2007.

2. Patent shine

oscarpyth.jpg

Patent leather grew up from punk rock to city sleek in 2007. The Marni balloon in patent was the all around trend bag.

3. Bold color

It was all about big color. Purples and Reds, oh my! The Mulberry Mabel in patent purple is patently fabulous and made a notable presence in our lives this year.

4. Metallic glow

Everything shined this year, how could we not love all the glitz? The Pauric Sweeney tote is a perfect example of why we love the glamour of the shine.

5. Big Bags

ysl_downtown.png

At 17″ high by 11″ wide, the YSL Large Downtwon topped this year’s big bag mania!

6. Oversized clutch

The giant clutch is one of this year’s hugest trends. Any bigger this Carlos Falchi alligator clutch will need its own porter!

7. Exotic Fever

If you were paying attention (or actually you didn’t need to, we kinda shoved it down your throats), exotic skin was our favorite trend this year. We could not get enough despite the harsh criticisms from our pals at PETA.

8. Environmentally Friendly

How do we get through this list without mentioning the sudden craze in environmentalism this year? Anya Hindmarch’s I’m Not a Plastic Bag created lines around the block and made headlines around the world. Was it Al Gore or was it Keira Knightly? I think it was the $15 price tag.

9. Chain details

Made popular by Chanel, the chain details are seen on bags from every designer but none more prominent this year than by Marc Jacobs.

10. Geometric shape

Designers are stepping out of the box, literally, as in the common boxy shape of bags. Sang A put a slant on the typical clutch and stood out as the celebrities’ chosen one.

So great that 2 YSL are on the list.Number one of bags. I love the RIVE gauche more, but maybe it was on last years list. Surpriced to find MJ and Mulberry on the list, but Chanel has it´s place for sure.

Took another look at Saks and found this darling YSL Capri flap hobo in gray. The almond is not bad for spring either. The YSL Capri leather bucket is marvelous too. Where do they get ideas for these fantastic bags? I am getting nuts over them. Please someone help me to get over this YSL hysteria. My dear husband, who has to call Berlin to our great bag provider, has found his long forgotten German speaking skills and is now quite a master in it. That is positive-but what a price he has had to pay for it.Said this before, but we get excellent service from Berlin.

I love my Cole Haan bags. Cole Haan uses sumptuous leathers that just feel so good. And I love the fact that when I carry a Cole Haan,I am not a walking advertisement for their company as I would be if I were carrying a bag with Coach C’s on it. I have a wonderful ivory leather Coach Legacy bag that I like a lot. But it doesn’t compare to my Cole Haan’s. Cole Haan seems to be the most under-rated bag around! Celebs often carry Cole Haan, and the bags and shoes from CH are always in Vogue, Vanity Fair, etc. I think it is funny that people will describe Cole Haan as an incredible bargain when the bags run from about $300 to several thousand dollars. I kind of assume that many (not all) who spend thousands on bags as if it is no biggie either have credit cards charged to the max, no savings to speak of, are very nouveau riche and/or all of the above. In any case, Here’s to the pursuit of the always elusive “perfect bag”.
