I am going to let our readers decide the fate of this bag. I will try my best not say a word to influence you but I do want to say that it reminds me of the plastic bags my housekeeper used to take to the outdoor markets in Asia (oops, was that bitchy?). Made of woven patent leather in "liquid stripes" (you know I am holding my fingers back from typing how I really feel) and brass clasps at the top of the handles, you know, ON your shoulders (imagine wearing a tank top or strapless dress... ouch!). And it is gigantic, as in you can fit an entire side of beef in it. Okay, so tell me what you think of the Bottega Veneta Oversized intrecciato tote- $2,680 at NAP.
(Update: just for you Anonymous... I really tried holding back on this one :)

I normally love Bottega, and I adore red patent, but this just didn't come together well. The hardware at the top of the strap would be impossibly uncomfortable. And the price is ridiculous for what this bag is.
Wait, that's a real stripe and not just a reflection from photography? Gross.
Liquid stripes? What is that, stripey patent leather? Gross is right.
Awful. Just awful. The bag looks like it's about to snap off the weak little straps, and that hardware thing on the top looks cheap! The colour of this patent leather is pretty, but is the patent really that necessary? This bright red would have done wonders on its own.
This is the monstrosity I was warning you about!!
Tina, you make it hard for people to really take this survey! You're an arbiter of taste and you say that you're not going to say "a word of influence" except that you think this bag looks like something a housekeeper uses at the supermarket.
What's the point of even having these surveys when you know all these readers for whom these bags are out of reach are seriously swayed by your opinions?
Why even bother? You TOLD us the bag was terrible already.
I agree that Tina is an arbiter of taste but anyone with eyes can see this bag is heinous. Obviously the people who voted Snob don't see it the same way, which is why the survey is fun. Voting is anonymous so I doubt anyone is worried that they'll look a fool for having a different opinion from Miss Tina.
I actually enjoy finding out how many people like it and I wonder if any of them will buy it.
hideous! and ouch!
don't make fun of housekeepers. not everyone has money to spend on designer goods.
Hi dps- I am not making fun of my housekeeper. I am poking at the bag, which similar to the shopping bags they sell in Asia for the outdoor markets. My aunts all used the same when they went to the market too. Our Asian readers know what I am talking about :)
The amusing this is that if this bag were a matte red or something, we would probably all be swooning (except for the links on the strap maybe).
Tina, before I even read your comments, I saw that chain at the top of the bag and all I could thing was O-U-C-H!!!! A cell phone in there and you're going to have instant pain plus unsightly marks on your shoulder.
Slob it is. Don't these people know that I like my shoulders intact?
Ouch-this is just too bright and too shiny for me. I´d much rather save my cents to buying an extravagant tote.
I really hope this isn't the start of a downwards trend at Bottega. I cherish the ones I have and wouldn't want to look idiotic. That's how I feel now about Vuitton and Gucci. Embarassing.
What's going on at BV? It's making me sad. They've gone from elegant and covetable to flashy and gaudy. I love the BV bags I already have, but from the looks of what they're inflicting on us now, I won't be adding to my collection.
It looks too uncomfortable for my taste. Wouldn't pay that kind of money for a bag like that :/
First of all i have the bag and i love the bag. Half u people dont even buy bags of this price point so whats the point. Who cares what your opinion is. And the straps dont hurt at all.
I think it will lokk much more better in real life!
i wish it was all just red patent and didn't have the stripes. also, that shoulder strap appears to be very uncomfortable, but i haven't actually tried it on. with those minor changes, i think i would really like it!
p.s. bag snob tina, i have to agree that you really swayed our opinions on this one.
at least it's cheaper than wool Fendy haha
I like the *style* with 2 exceptions. The metal at the top of the strap will be incredibly uncomfortable to carry - it should have leather in that spot. And 2, IMHO, it would look a lot more chic of it were made from regular leather, with perhaps an ombre pattern.
oh my god. DISGUSTING. (i am not holding back here...) that is seriously foul, the red shinyness makes it look like a christmas gift bag. it is not even challenging and therefore interesting in the way of certain chunky shoes and studded bags. it is simply cheap looking and nasty
well i don't think that this bag is going to make a splash anywhere except for carrying beach wear or something of that nature but i've seen fakes that are better priced from the outside vendor to do the same thing. what i do like is the color and i think if bottega veneta keeps working they could come up with a lot better. maybe it straps around the waist like a fanny pack, because most women need a durable strap. well i don't want to go on but just go back to the drawing board.
BV in patent is just so wrong! The beauty of BV is its matte colors. :)
